The all-new box also adds a faster A12 Bionic processor, support for high-frame rate HDR and the ability to calibrate your TV picture using your iPhone camera. But is it worth $180? CNET Editor David Katzmaier reacts to the news.

They screwed up by not including the U1 chip in the remote… like what. The only thing you’ll probably lose the most

      April 20, 2021 at 11:56 pm

100% correct. It is a little bigger, but adding the U1 chip seemed like a no-brainer.

      April 21, 2021 at 12:04 am

That’s where AirTags come in! 😂

@Brandon So they expect us to tape them to the remote? Or are they going to make some weird remote cover that includes a slot for an AirTag? They could have included a U1 chip and made the stand-alone remote a little more expensive. This would have made a much more compelling case for an upgrade.

Wow 179 dollars for a new remote. I can calibrate my own tv it’s subjective anyway what you may like don’t mean I would like it what a missed opportunity for Apple get a 50 dollar 4K fire tv stick instead 🤔🤔🤔

This is the simplest and best looking remote I have ever seen in my life!

    April 21, 2021 at 12:02 am

What about spatial audio with the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max? From he specs sheet, it looks like the scrimped on that. That feature alone would have sealed the deal for an upgrade.

The remote should of been more nes like for the games!

  8. Mr Motown

Only If it’s much faster ,would I buy it. As transitioning from Dolby vision to SDR is very slow right now. If not I’ll get the remote only

  9. Chika Okechukwu

    April 21, 2021 at 12:17 am

I see no reason to upgrade, I’ll just get the new romote.

The Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 model @$200 is a much better thing to compare the Apple TV 4k against when trying to decide which premium model is tops. Not sure why it wasn’t mentioned. Roku isn’t in the same class as Apple TV and Nvidia.

I have an older TV that does not support Apple TV/TV+. Would rather buy this (or some other smart device) than a new TV 😰

  29. Izztana Dark

    April 21, 2021 at 1:46 pm

I will definitely buy this when it’s out. Knowing that I could use my PS5 controller on this device is really what draws me.

    April 21, 2021 at 2:18 pm

Is not expensive is you get Dolby Atmos and Vision and the device actually works!

It’s not worth the upgrade for me to be honest.. I’m staying with the old 4K Apple TV box, I was hoping to see an 8K Apple TV box but hopefully next time.

  34. FunkyJunky

    April 21, 2021 at 3:32 pm

The Siri remote is a POS. Why must Apple reinvent the wheel and charge yet again an outrageous amount for a remote control? People have used a standard button type remote for a couple of generations. Why does Apple take fr granted the accumulated knowledge of its users? Yet again, the dreaded APPLE TAX for a device that could be simple and easy to use and still be a well made Apple product.

Will ATV gen 6 Dolby Vision HDR work on 2016 LG OLED’s? In which 30hz Dolby Vision will be needed for HDR 4K.

I don’t care if only 1080p Dolby vision works in 2016 OLED’s. As in 2021 Roku Ultra. I want 4K 30hz Dolby Vision HDR to work.

  47. Shield

  49. Brett Skywalker

    • Kyle H

      April 22, 2021 at 7:44 am

Nope. Try telling which side is the top side in a dark lit room. And the touch pad wasn’t accurate. Even when you tweak it in settings. It looked cool though.

    • Ellipsis22

      April 22, 2021 at 7:47 am

@Kyle H nope. Only an idiot couldn’t find the top side. And the touch pad was perfect, just because you couldn’t operate it doesn’t mean it was flawed.

I wish the symbols on the Apple remote could “light up” so you can see what buttons you’re pressing in the dark.

  62. Greg

    April 22, 2021 at 8:54 pm

Never had any issue with the old remote. And it looks much better than this new one in my opinion.

  63. Wil H

    April 22, 2021 at 9:40 pm

It’s worth the upgrade as I moving from APPT TV 4th gen,, back then there really wasn’t much content so didn’t needed an now jus was with Netflix an prime an so forth. Can’t wait to order! And also shouldn’t put username an passwords in the tv apps no end to end encryption.
