Is this a joke? This is ridiculous, they probably spent millions researching this. This has already been invented and perfected. We just need modern updates. Come to New York it’s called a subway all you need to do is build a high-speed subway system which it seems like they’ve taken their queue from but you’re just in a car which would be Les then I deal for the amount of people that would be using the service. I thought Elon musk was a genius or something. But I guess he is, take an existing thing and swap the train out for your cars and sell it as a new idea SMH

Why is Tesla/Boring not confident of letting Tesla’s drive autonomously inside the 1.7 mile long tunnel?! Should be easier because of fixed route, no traffic, and short distance.

They are testing Autopilot down there, but regulators won’t allow it yet with passengers

I guess it’s hard for a billonaire to come up with something “for the masses”. This is ridiculous, and the fanboy’s only defense for it is that “it’s cheaper than building a subway”. So what? it’s also slower and less efficient. Those stupid LED colored tunnels is what desperate marketing looks like.

      June 9, 2021 at 7:48 pm

It’s literally been proven to be as efficient in moving people as the subway.

1:01 4400 people an hour? A metro line would do the same in ten minutes. Probably even less than that.

    • Jack Whitlock

It’s a taxi in a claustrophobic non-code-compliant tunnel. A bus or train would be more efficient, economical, and safer. Please stop promoting this snake oil. We meed to invest in real infrastructure that actually works for reliable, safe, efficient, green, and efficient mass transit.

  49. FeatureRequest

    June 10, 2021 at 10:53 pm

the pt is to relieve congestion from the traffic above. its something different. of course if you build a metro the costs will be exponential. try something different for $50 million and see how it goes? why not. people here saying why not just build a metro. look at every metro in every big city in the USA. its too expensive and takes too long to build out.

  51. CoolMINER624

    June 11, 2021 at 1:48 am

Why don’t people understand that for this to even be approved to open and operate it’d have to be safe in a situation like a fire. This would not be allowed to carry passengers otherwise. Plus, no one ever talks about elevators and if a fire were to occur in the building. How would people get out of the elevator? If someone disagrees with me about the fire safety I’m perfectly open to having a calm and respectful conversation.

Even though i have much respect for Elon musk, i don’t think this city-wide tunnel concept will succeed. I can bet my money on this.

  53. Lachlan Brown

    June 11, 2021 at 5:15 am

Why is America so obsessed with cars? Does musk realise that if his company or government built good public transport infrastructure there would be no traffic? The solution to gridlock isn’t adding more cars and traffic lanes to highways. It’s creating alternatives that allow people to leave their cars in the suburbs and commute via other means. This project is a complete failure of urban planning and development and detracts others from investing in real public transport. 5 people in a car vs 500 on a subway car what a joke.

The Funds come 100% from The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority on room rates payed by strip hotel guests, so to say that it is pay of of taxpayers money, is a damn lie. Also the Convention center put up bids for transport, It is not Elon’s responsibility to pay it.

I think that all of the people who attack the tunnel need to understand this: Its their 2nd tunnel and first commercial one ever. Its like the 2008 Roadster. It was expensive, and not that practical, but it was a proof of concept, Is the tunnel now “Boring” and slow? Yes you can’t deny it, but as they gain experience and cash, along with permission with a hint of autonomy, you will see the tunnels become more. Don’t listen to what some *Unnamed Youtubers* say about the system now, they will convince you that the system now is what they want more of like on the Full Vegas loop, all the same, but that simply isn’t true. A lot of what they said only months ago their math, all of their reasoning “The system will only hit 1000 capacity and not 4400.” But after testing we now know that 4400 was an understatement.

Always make sure to do your research.

How does Elon come up with these mind bending ideas. A tunnel you can drive a car through. Next he will advocate mass sanitation systems and a series of pipes where you can just turn a tap and water comes out. Go Elon go

So we’ve gone a 600mph Hyperlood system that would ferry ppl from LA to Vegas in under 30mins, to what is basically an electric car Uber moving 35mph in underground tunnels that will ferry ppl there in… about an hour and a hal? That is not progress.
