I think Samsung and Motorola have better iterations as far as form-factor, screen size and the display itself bending but the neo is also even more promising than the duo as far as changing portable computing. Very appreciative of Microsoft adopting Android as well. Now if only we can get apple to add a touch screen to their MacBooks.

Its a problem like fold no Pen inside and they lunch to late!
No wifi 6?
No 5G ?
No 1 terra off space inside!
No 16 GB of ram.
No 5 years software update.
No cool camera on the back.
No real 2 k front camera for Skype.
To expensive for nothing.

I could care less about having apps being optimized as long as All Microsoft Office Apps and the Email app work as flawless and as efficient as a computer. If it does deliver on that experience, I know what phone is replacing my iPhone finally, a worthy contender!

Yea it needs a few years to get it right. That one camera being an 11 mp. I doubt it’s good quality. Those huge bezels remind me of an iPad 1

No exterior cameras makes no sense to me considering how often people use them. Logically the top display could be what the camera sees and the bottom display could be camera controls, filters, social media sharing options. What we need is a modern Nokia 9500 Communicator, remember those?

Seems like that purposely made it crappy and missing features and priced it like this just so they see if people buy into it being that bad, it will mean users will most likely really be into the next model when they give you back all the missing features but starts it at like $2000

I’m not really the intended audience persay, given it seems it’s more for pros (trying to get a ton done)
But I just love the aesthetic, everything about it. Sucks it lacks 5G etc, but I think I’m on board and will buy one.

I know why did he even say that. This is a Microsoft device not even using windows this seems like an embarrassment. It’s running Android did Microsoft really give up with windows on mobile devices or what. A software company that does not even design software for its own hardware. I am just thankful Apple will finally abandon Intel and make their own processors it’s been to long relying on a company that constantly disappoints their users by delaying their new processors so finally Apple will do it.

Anyway, Microsoft went with Android because it was a ready-made system. It already had an enormous app ecosystem, including Microsoft’s application and, it was already built for calling and SMS. It’s just too expensive, time consuming, and risky to build from scratch like the failed Windows Phone.
On top of that, Microsoft has a ton of experiencing developing for Android. Their Arrow Launcher was one of the most popular UIs for Android out there, and they’ve worked with Samsung for years to create cross-platform Android-to-Windows integration for things like Samsung Flow, unlocking your PC via your phone, and Microsoft’s Your Phone.

They cannot get their own OS to not brick devices, how do you expect them to implement someone else’s OS onto a device? It is not a drawing tool for artists because the screen is split in half and it has no place to hold a pen, it is not a phone because it’s too big, it does not have a headphone jack, it is basically a big tablet with a crack down the middle of a screen and a battery smaller than a 2014 150$ Samsung tablet. it’s a double android phone that they called surface so fanboys can get excited about it. It’s a gimmick for people with money.

I’m interested in seeing the “Windows 10 Cloud Desktop” that another tech blog mentioned a few days back, but not seen anyone else mention it. Would be great to quickly access a desktop on the move using the bottom screen as a keyboard/trackpad. Hopefully VNC will optimise the Android app for the dual screen use. I’ve never seen the point in dual screen phones, but this does actually look useful.

My question is notifications, especially with phone calls when your phone is in your pocket. With most phones you can quick pull them out and take a quick glance thanks to always on displays and LEDs. With the duo, it seems like you have to take it out of your pocket and try to open it up before missing a call.

you can just close it with the screens facing out. It’s no more exposed in that position than an iPhone would be all the time.

I feel like they’re on to something. Not with this model, but with future iterations. They need an outside camera, they need smaller bezels and more apps that use both screens. But I do see potential here down the road. That price though? Hmm.

Great form factor. Dual screens just makes more sense than foldable screens. But I can’t imagine how this can replace the way I use my phone. No camera, no quick access to read and reply to texts or notifications, no quick access to controlling music, no quick access to dictation, Google assistant etc. Sure, a complementing smartwatch can do some of that but no camera??? Really? This is more like a pocket notebook that is too small for proper productivity! It also needs a place to store a pen.

My last ($1500) surface pro was fried 2 months after warranty expired and Microsoft wanted to charge me 600 to “fix” it. Between that and the FIVE defective replacement chargers I had in the span of a year, I vowed to NEVER purchase another microsoft device again.

elenchus Still would be useful to glance at a 3rd screen to see notifications, discreetly decide if I want to answer a call or text without damaging inside screen. Maybe just my age showing and nostalgia for my old Motorola Flip. The new Razr gonna crease over time. MS Duo looks promising based on 2 MS Surface I own impressed with their build quality.

how does the new slim surface pen charge? The official video used the previous 3rd gen pen which has accessible batteries. I don’t think I would want to carry that one in my pocket when the slim is much shorter, but it is rechargeable. I didn’t see the inductive pad, because the see through glass allows us to see the inside guts.

I would categorize this into a laptop phone. A feasible one, too. Wish there was a front display for notifications, time, etc, by hey it’s the first generation. If you want something like that, you’l probably just get the Samsung anyway.
