His material is just very typical for a black Comedian. Without race he would lose 75% of his routine. He’s very, very standard.

I follow Josh on his Youtube channel. He’s amazing. I know it is going to be a good day when a new video of his drops. He does a good 30 to 40 minutes of funny material every week or so. That’s mind blowing!

I just love this man. So down to earth. He’s incredibly talented and is pushing out content for free on the regular that is all new all the time. Which is unheard of in his level of comedic chops. He could be selling his shows for thousands but keeps them available. May all the good things come to josh.

People say that George Carlin and Louis CK are the best stand ups of all time because they write a new set every year. Josh Johnson makes a brand new set every week while also writing for The Daily Show, and he kills it every time. I see a huge future for Josh.

Josh Johnson is hands down the funniest comedian of his generation. Absolutely phenomenal in every performance & I don’t think I’ve heard him tell the same joke or story twice. In a word, amazing. I sat in the chat with nearly 16k other fun loving fools watching his last video premiere here on YT & had a helluva good time. Just keep doing what you do, Josh. You’ve most certainly got this.

The sheer amount and quality of content Josh has put out recently is astonishing. Like, whatever “it” is, dude has got it. For someone so young, he is an incredible storyteller and comedian already.

  47. @Leopardeye

    September 20, 2024 at 3:14 pm

I do admire Josh not reusing jokes. Nothing against those who do, but I listen to so many comedians telling the same joke 3-4 times at different shows… It does get a bit tired.😅 And make me wonder if they struggled to find new material.

I am 79 and have been a connoisseur of comedy all my life. Comics like Jerry Seinfeld have admitted that it takes a year to create a set. Somehow, it appears that when on tour, Josh does a fresh set every week. It’s really extraordinary.

Fabulous interview with a great comedian.

  54. @johnsmith8981

    September 21, 2024 at 9:54 am

Josh Jonson is one of the most emotionally intelligent comedians I’ve ever seen. Him and Gianmarco are two of my favorites and a big part of it is their emotional intelligence.

They are able to tell jokes about sensitive topics without offending anyone and handle hecklers with compassion not fury which is rare in a comedian.

Josh in particular has a really interesting style where he takes some sort of everyday situation, finds the humor in it, then relates it to some bigger event that’s going on. For example, he first sets a scene of two old men about to crash on an electric wheelchair and he’s watching thinking “I should probably say something” but then it’s too late they’ve already crashed. Then he says that’s what it was like watching the Trump Biden debate. He’s very emotionally intelligent and his setups and punchlines are so cleverly crafted. Plus he releases a lot of his sets for free and he is frequently coming up with new material. You can tell this guy constantly writes his jokes and ideas down and journals because he constantly has new stuff. I can’t wait to see one of the shows in person when he comes by my city.

  76. @johnmccullough5897

    September 22, 2024 at 12:05 pm

Watching a recent stand-up clip of Josh, I noticed that many were clapping or shouting encouragement at certain points instead of laughing, as if he was a politician or a preacher. I wonder if Josh is ever bothered by this. Probably not as long as he’s still getting a lot of laughs. But maybe this is how entertainers change careers. Maybe they no longer get laughs, but people agree with what they are saying, so they go into politics. Unfortunately, I think this can create some very poor politicians. I don’t want a failed comedian as my leader. (Josh’s set on the debate got me thinking about this.)

  77. @quantquill

    September 22, 2024 at 3:57 pm

Josh is amazing. He has spent years and untold hours honing his craft, his observational skills, until he’s at the point where people are asking why he doesn’t have Netflix specials. That’s diligence. “Quality isn’t crowded.” Important to remember in any field.

My mom worked for lawyers, they had a huge collection of lawyer jokes on tap. I asked once if there were too many lawyers. My mom’s boss said, “There’s always room for a good lawyer.”

  78. @davidleedutton

    September 22, 2024 at 4:31 pm

I’ve been binge-watching Josh’s YouTube videos for the past couple of days. He’s really extraordinary in the way he transcends the form of stand-up comedy. I can’t remember seeing a comic who can talk to a crowd for several minutes without getting a laugh and still have them listening closely to every word he’s saying. It’s like watching a TED talk by a brilliant philosopher who also has a great sense of humor. You don’t get the sense that the audience is challenging him to make them laugh, as much as an appreciation of being in his company and having a shared experience with him.

    September 22, 2024 at 8:07 pm

Carlin Pryor and Cosby are, to me, the GOAT comics. To me, JJ is now doing as well as any of those in their early years. In the last few years, through his intense practice, he’s right there with the early years of the best (just my opinion, 50-something comedy fan who listened to all the classic vinyl records). And he’s doing it in a new way. And most importantly he has the great gift of hitting the center every time, so he can take everyone along. Unless you’re a raging angry weirdo on either side of the spectrum, you’ll find something to like.

Not only is Josh a hilarious, astonishingly prolific comic, he’s able to be consistent. Whether its as a writer or a performer, the guy nails it every single time. He seems really insightful as well; a lot of these answers were almost like mini philosophy lessons.

There was a moment where I saw elements of Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr in him. Dave’s intellect and way of analyzing things, Bill’s ability to point out who’s really at fault ( corporate greed, etc). This guy is something special.

Josh Johnson is the BEST!!! We watch his amazing comedy every week and it is extremely rare to hear him even mention the same thing twice. There is nothing wrong with bringing back a joke that people love, but Josh is so brilliant that he doesn’t _need_ to do that. We love him! Actually, I just realized we need a name for us. *Josh’s Friends* or… help me, Fam! 🤔

What makes him a consummate comedian, like Carlin, Hicks and Chappel is that innately, he is a philosopher, and he combines his philosophical observations with keen wit and subtle irony.

He’s already great, now it’s just a matter of “going down” as one of the greats.
