Drawing on his extensive experience as a people manager, he shares three essential tips for leaders to unlock the potential of their teams by listening generously, embracing vulnerability and leading with humanity — and shows how it’s possible to both earn trust and drive results. Joe Davis argues that generosity is an underrated leadership skill. He shares three tips for generous leadership: listen curiously across hierarchies, be vulnerable, and act generously in every moment, even without personal gain.

Nice message, and potentially appliable in some very small businesses. Unfortunately, by design, the only leadership quality that matters to any organization with equity financing is willingness to exploit others – workers, customers, suppliers, the environment, families, and communities in the name of shareholder profits. There are no leaders beyond lower middle management that possess an ounce of generosity, compassion, or empathy. Some may pretend to or even believe they do to satisfy their own narcissism, but don’t be fooled.

Being a leader is finding out the personal and professional goals of the people below you and then making it YOUR goal to help them achieve theirs.

The problem is, why would anyone want to be a leader if not for personal benefits?
Being a leader is tiring and comes with lots more responsibilities than not being a leader. You’d better be paid properly for being a leader.
Even if you’re talking about helping and growing other people, that’s something beyond your normal responsibilities. Only rich people have the kind of luxury to do stuff like that.

    • @drzahidmbbsmddmaiimsdelhi

      April 9, 2025 at 10:44 pm

    • @niccolom

      April 9, 2025 at 10:53 pm

      @
By the same logic, other people also want to be leader because they also don’t want to be led by you.

That cannot work in real life.

    • @drzahidmbbsmddmaiimsdelhi

      April 9, 2025 at 11:06 pm

@@niccolom that is what happens in the real world then one who is choosen is random and destiny …..but an aspiring good leader is invariably a good follower

  23. @nokoolaid

    April 10, 2025 at 8:18 pm

The least used, at least applied generally. The problem is empathy. As one goes up the ladder it decreases and it’s not incentivized. In fact, I’d posit that it’s considered a weakness. Choose different kinds of people for leadership. Affinity bias and homophily is what’s blocking it from happening.

Not gonna lie, I thought “financial alchemy” sounded like fluff. But this book? The Hidden Codex of the Financial Alchemists broke it down in a way that hit different. I stopped playing small, started moving with belief, and money started flowing in ways I didn’t expect. It’s like it reprogrammed my money energy.
