You have to be kidding me TED. The false equivalency here is staggering, Republicans literally don’t believe its happening, or if it is it isn’t humans, or if its humans we can’t do anything about it. They are owned by billion oil oligarchs. It doesn’t matter that 81% of Young Conservatives believe in climate change, look at their leaders and representatives.

All that’s left is to convince those, from both parties, who reap benefits from being entrenched in their disdain for each other.

My dear, between now and 2050 the effect of climate change is going to get much worse, even if we were to take drastic measures tomorrow that go far beyond anything being proposed by either party today. The only question is how much worse will the impact of that climate warming become? Recent data suggests that it will be more costly to humanity in terms of property and habitable community losses, economic impact, and loss of human life than even our worst estimates. So in the spirit of your offer to meet me halfway, I look forward to fighting for our mutual survival with you and all of your conservative friends, but I feel sorry for young people who will face a lifelong struggle with this after my generation is long gone.

I am disappointed at TED for inciting cognitive dissonance and Republican propaganda through this video. We do not need to be confused about climate change we need people who are doing the work on the ground. It would be nice to have been educated about the initiatives and volunteering opportunities her organization holds. All I heard is gaslighting. Thank you.

In fact, people can feel the heat from the warming temperature and suffer heavy losses from climate disasters. The actions from the majority of supporters for mitigation climate change are able to overcome the minority of denial.

Fewer regulations. That’s worked great for the environmental issues in the past. Hole in the ozone, lead in the air, acid rain, rivers on fire. All solved by less regulation, right?

i used to think all these energy books were just hype, but then i heard about Magnetic Aura from friends who suddenly seemed calmer, more in control, like they weren’t letting stress or negativity mess with them anymore. it’s not magic or anything, but i can’t ignore the changes i’ve seen in them since they read it. it’s hard to track down tho, so if you’re curious, you’ll need to dig a little.

  18. @HK_Thakor_6785

    January 20, 2025 at 4:38 pm

i thought Magnetic Aura was just another self-help trend till i saw how it’s lowkey transformed my friends—like they’re way more grounded, confident, and people just wanna be around them. it’s not fake or try-hard, they just seem real and magnetic now. it’s tricky to find tho, gets taken down quick, but worth hunting for

  19. @subhamkumarsubha2196

    January 20, 2025 at 4:38 pm

so my friends read this book called Magnetic Aura and they all started acting way more confident—one got a job they didn’t even apply for, another’s meeting all these amazing people who actually lift them up. it’s like something shifted in their vibe, not in a flashy way, just subtle and real. it’s wild tho, this book keeps getting removed so fast cuz it’s apparently too powerful—good luck finding it if you’re curious.

  20. @rajuram3588

    January 20, 2025 at 4:38 pm

not gonna lie, i wasn’t into this whole “energy” stuff till my friend handed me Magnetic Aura—she wouldn’t shut up about it and now i see why, everyone i know who read it seems more chill and magnetic in this effortless way. it’s not a magic fix but it definitely hits different. finding a copy is a hustle tho, they don’t stick around long

  21. @mahadevdas-pc8jq

    January 20, 2025 at 4:38 pm

you ever meet someone who just has this natural vibe, like they’re on a different level? i found out most of my friends like that all read Magnetic Aura and they swear it’s not about pretending, just being real and not letting negativity drag you down. it’s wild how hard it is to get tho, keeps disappearing everywhere, but maybe that’s what makes it worth it

It is unbelievable that a young woman from a supposedly free, supposedly 1st world nation would _want_ Taliban-style abortion policy. Not just for herself, but to force it on other women too. She _is_ however right that whatever climate sensibility exists on the far right in the USA must be supported, and the right and the far right in the USA must learn to talk to each other again (the USA doesn’t have a left).

She doesn’t say if she voted for todays new president. Given the ones currently controlling the US far right, it would make sense for her to vote for the other option this time despite being on the far right side of economic policy. The far right party could, and probably will eventually, come around on climate policy, since eventually it will be terminal political self-harm not to do so. Could take a few more decades, though.

I can see from the comments that so many are not willing to humanize anyone who’s willing to challenge their own beliefs as someone who identifies with the other side of the political aisle. Lots of condescension and spite, no faith in bridging the divide, a resolute refusal to waver from allegiance to a political identity. Its just going to perpetuate itself as long as we all continue to do this to each other. She challenged her own beliefs. Perhaps many of you should challenge your own.

She is incredibly naive to think that her political position as a conservative doesnt already dramatically reflect her position with regard to the planet. Convervatives and big business have done nothing but fight to protect corporate intentions to devour all of the resources we have . They will do this until nothing is left if it means making a few extra dollars. Democrats will not work with you because you only want concessions while giving up nothing. Maybe start telling conservatives to stop thinking of only themselves for a change.

We’re not going to solve climate change with electric vehicles. Not everyone can afford them. Do you suppose she’s going to be interested in expanding public transit in order to solve this problem? According to Statista, 15% of the world’s emissions come from transportation. The burbs are a huge contributor to this statistic. Without convenient, fast, safe public transit, this sector will continue to emit profusely.

At least half these comment are just negativity. So many claim to be the better person but when a conservative comes with similar intentions of helping the planet, they start throwing buzzwords, stereotypes and the same negativity and tribalism that they accuse conservatives of. Tribalism towards those who want the same as you will only hurt your goals. “I don’t want solutions, I want to be angry!”

3:28 That’s why there are international agreements.Which forces all political parties in a country in one direction . We have multi-party and all agree that climate change must be prevented.Unlike the Republican party

  48. @AprezaRenaldy

    January 24, 2025 at 3:24 am

I saw yesterday that Donald Trump pulled out of the Paris agreement. Isn’t the function of international agreements to make all parties, even in multi-party countries, move towards zero need by 2050 for developed countries and 2060 for developing countries .

But the Republican party only blames developing countries like China and India.

  49. @philiptaylor7902

    January 24, 2025 at 10:22 am

Climate change was not a politicised issue until relatively recently, when elements of the Right decided to make it part of their culture war agenda.

  50. @atfti

    January 24, 2025 at 2:09 pm

If Republicans REALLY wanna fight climate change, they’ll change themselves as a voter base. Purity tests is the reason conservatives feel like they can’t communicate with progressives? Get a grip. Look, we see the “holier than thou” aspect to the left base, but that’s a nonissue compared to the active work Republicans are doing to counteract climate change proposals. Not a good look when the current right wing president pulls us out of global climate movements.
Cooperation on climate change with the left doesn’t automatically mean there’ll be trojan horses into changing broad scale government policy, BECAUSE WE’VE ALREADY SEEN WHAT LIFE IS LIKE WITHOUT REASONABLY ENFORCED REGULATION ON AMERICAN INDUSTRY. A quick skim of The Jungle will show you exactly what I’m talking about. Business will choose to save itself over saving the world EVERY SINGLE TIME. To deny that is to deny that there’s a self-interest component to business. Climate conscious policy isn’t profitable. As the party that cares about lax regulation, you can’t say that and simultaneously say, “but we think that climate change and environment conservation is important!”
What I’m saying isn’t a purity test. It’s highlighting the fundamental oppositional aims of the environmentally conscious conservative belief. The party that wants to cut taxes (but somehow only for the rich) shouldn’t be surprised when there’s less government capital to actually support wide scale climate action. You can’t have it both ways.

Sufficient regulations, reasonable taxes LEVIED AT THE RIGHT PEOPLE, and the attitude of caring about the collective over the individual is exactly what is needed to actually act on climate change. THAT’S why the platform is a non-starter for the Republican party. THAT’S why so many Republicans deny climate change. It’s not that there wouldn’t be voters for it. It’s that the solution isn’t one the right wants to hear. Factually, we’ve gone past the point of no return for the negative effects of climate change to hit us. Increased and extreme weather patterns all across the US, increased transmission of infectious disease, more and more forest fires in the hot, dry, and windy portions of the country – all of these things are influenced by worsening climate change. And STILL, our president, the president the right voted for, wants to “DRILL BABY, DRILL”, when the people drilling are the people causing the worsening in the first place! This position is antithetical to itself. You can either force business to cooperate with climate efforts, or you can have less regulation. There may be something to be said about incentive programs like carbon credits, but it’s not enough. Either with force or incentives, businesses stopping their climate affective behaviors is slowing the bleeding down. What we need is a return to hemostasis. To heal the damage we’ve done. To take responsibility for the biodiversity we’ve lost.

We can work together, but that requires you to not feel hurt that we’re pointing out the things that aren’t helping. If you see it as purity tests, you’ve missed the point. It’s not to say, “you’re not as good as us” because there are so many other stats that frankly blow republicans out of the water. Why would we fight at the line of environmental protection? Only if someone was leading the effort to block it. Oh wait…

  51. @Floxxoror

He makes a fascinating (and slightly unnerving) case that agents are a real shift, not just better versions of chatbots, and explores how they might reshape your ability to work, build and create. “The lobster is loose, and it’s not going back into the tank,” he says.
