how about using the phone you currently have longer?

Um… Yea $900 is wayyy to much for what the FE is worth.

I swore off ever spending over 500 for a phone after breaking 2 of them from an accidental drop and water damage.
Samsung A series is for budget and usually there’s discounts with the phone carriers. I only ended up spending less than 200 for a phone that does everything i want it to, maybe a little slower than the flagships, which is going to be less than the insurance price a year for those 1000+ dollar phones.

  4. @Ray__E

    July 11, 2025 at 1:59 pm

I remember when budget phones cost a few hundred dollars, had replaceable batteries, a headphone jack, etc… There’s nothing “budget” about a phone that costs a half a grand or more.😐

Galaxy S23 ultra: launch price 1400 dollars, antutu benchmark score 1.2 million, 4 years os updates upto 2027

2025 Oneplus nord 5: price 350 dollars, antutu score 1.5 million, 4 years os updates upto 2029

So with latest phone, you get new phone, new and bigger battery, better processor, for 1000 dollar less!

I bought a used z flip 4 on amazon for cheap. It looked brand new, and no one would have known that i bought it heavily discounted. I tell people about it because i find it more impressive than just buying the brand new model for full price.

All i did was go on amazon and type the phone you want and theb type on renewed after it.

Even new phones will go on amazon renewed a couple months after release. It kind of varies though.

I kind of ge the reason why people uograde there ohone every year. I just dont find it that impressive because almost everyone uogrades every 2 years.

I got my phone a year ago and its still getting android updates. Its a 3 year old phone. It’s still going to get next years android update, and I’ll be able to use it for quite a while after that. By then, the z flip 7 or 8 used will be cheap.

  22. @f1guremeout

    July 11, 2025 at 6:42 pm

    SMH
A budget phone is anywhere from ≤$200 – $350, the same one would pay for pre-owned referbished online for a phone from the previous 2-3 gen, and would last 2-5 years with software updates.
Paying $900+ for a handheld that’s not an iPad or tablet, might as well buy a full featured computer.

Considering budget tech yes but also considering not upgrading. I used to buy Apple upgrades yearly. iPhones, iPads, Watch. The last two upgrades occurred every two years. Now considering not upgrading unless I need to which could be once IOS no longer supports the device. That might mean 4-6 years. If less costly devices come to the market I might reconsider jumping from Apple completely. Apple needs to take a leaf from other companies and provide more cheaper options or more market share will go to other companies.

I knew that I wanted an iPad with an M class processor to take advantage of the new iPadOS 26 coming out this fall, so I went ahead and purchased a new iPad Air 13″ now to avoid paying more for it this fall.

Budget phone is less than $100. Redmi A5, Redmi, Redmi number C series and same price range are budget. Samsung A1 core, A16 it not because it above 2 million IDR. It need to bellow 2 million IDR or $123.33.
Mid range is 3 – 4 million IDR or at $247
Early entry Android was usually 400,000 IDR or $24.67 when the soc still single core.

    July 12, 2025 at 9:39 am

phones have reached a plateau in 2020 since then its trivial changes every year. only upgrade when your current device prevents you from doing what you want

My budget phone is 100$ used, few years old one!

  31. @andrea.moccia

    July 12, 2025 at 12:52 pm

I feel like the point of releasing “””budget””” options stems from different factors: the realization for many that those new exclusive features are cool on paper but not as useful in real life as expected (like the LiDAR scanner or the integrated S Pen) and the fact that manufacturers created very solid and balanced phones between 2020-2022, that many people still use today (I see SO many people with iPhone 12s and 13s). So manufactures are basically saying: “It’s better to sell a cheaper phone than not selling one at all”.

  32. @H_Gemei

    July 12, 2025 at 1:40 pm

The budget phones segment is there to just compel people to pay a couple hundred more and get the premium option. It’s the same popcorn pricing trick done by cinemas.

  33. @Grommok

    July 12, 2025 at 2:18 pm

I recently bought the Apple IPhone 16 Pro Max, my wife who usually upgrades with me did not because it was not available in the color that is available on the IPhone 16. They need to understand that people who buy premium phones also want cool color choices as well.

  34. @horridohobbies

    July 12, 2025 at 3:05 pm

Given the state of the global economy, you’d have to have more money than sense to spend anywhere close to $2,000 for a phone. Personally, I draw the line at $800, and even that is pretty extravagant.

  35. @JRusk56

    July 12, 2025 at 3:33 pm

They are just phones. Why pay that much money for a phone? Its5not going to help you find love or raise a family and all the important parts of life. If you want some entertainment and some productivity, get a midrange tablet and keep it for 5 years or so.

  36. @celebrityrog

  37. @jjcoolaus

    July 12, 2025 at 5:02 pm

Please CNET cover some real budget phones that cost less than $200 USD. Also the 16E has no MagSafe, a worse display, one less processor core (because it’s a factory seconds CPU not the real thing), and it lacks the camera action button

  38. @carlosbeltran4488

    July 12, 2025 at 6:01 pm

These “budget” options are NOT budget at all. Phones shouldnt be over 800 dollars.

  39. @Andreravone

    July 12, 2025 at 6:24 pm

This whole video is predicated on a falsehood. Samsung’s budget line is the Galaxy A series. Who greenlit this video at CNET?

  40. @WafflesIsTheStuff

    July 12, 2025 at 7:57 pm

With me it’s all about self control. I mean sure the latest stuff can seem enticing but in reality i only need the “vanilla” experience. I just need it on a daily basis more or less. Phones released years ago are more than enough for me. I do like to hunt for pristine phones on eBay but as long as they’re well taken care of and perform well, i’ll be happy.

  41. @PoorPeople-od1

    July 12, 2025 at 8:06 pm

I made the right decisions under undeniability so within the age limit of undeniability, I made the best decisions, and that’s all that counts to existence so I can have a blast

  42. @PoorPeople-od1

    July 12, 2025 at 8:09 pm

I survived undeniability so with that being said, I have to show a high level of excitement to existence. I have to have a blast, because existence understands the level of a blast I can have so everyone has to invest into my years of undeniability. But they don’t understand the level of blast I can have so I have to show attention to blast

  45. @PoorPeople-od1

    July 12, 2025 at 8:12 pm

The host has the ability to do something that she’s not doing to the full extent so she can sort of kinda rest in peace, but if she presents that ability in public, then existence will attack so, rest in peace and fight existence, or fake rest in peace in regret

  46. @PoorPeople-od1

Just got a brand new iPhone 14 Plus in 512 GB storage for $376. That’s perfect for me, and will keep me from having to upgrade for the next 5+ years. Absolutely no need to shell out a grand or more for a “Budget” phone.

  51. @kl787

    July 12, 2025 at 9:33 pm

Keep your tech for at least 5 years, repair when needed and finally replace when repair isn’t making sense anymore. Proud to say I’m still using a 9 years old phone, battery changed once and probably need another very soon. Still using a 5 years old laptop and a 9 years old desktop computer. Some may say software updates might not be available but everything I use still works fine, and always practice tech hygiene. Don’t forget, we used to pay for software upgrades and most people back then kept using older software just fine, and dare I say software at similar age of the hardware runs best. Feel free to upgrade when it isn’t costing anything to do so, but the world isn’t ending when manufacturers refuse to allow your old hardware to run their brand new software.

Apple is the only company that is truly given Budget or entry level pricing, for quality devices. Idc what anyone says check the prices vs technology. I wish Samsung & Google would do they same yet they keep raising their prices. 😕

    • @smittyvanjagermanjenson182

      July 12, 2025 at 10:40 pm

The 16e is a budget phone of quality, but let’s not pretend the galaxy A series doesn’t exist, with upper teir models that rivals the quality of the 16e at a similar price

  53. @spede1

Talks about budget phones taking over, does not mention a single thing about the Galaxy A series which range from $100-$600, talks instead about the slightly lower end Fan Editions that cost nearly the same price as the flagships. Make that pay check CNET…

  55. @picsbymayank

    July 13, 2025 at 12:33 am

Especially with Samsung the actual budget phones (Galaxy A Series) are still mostly crap to this day and should not be bought over 1 – 2 year old flagships.

  58. @MarkEdisonAlviz-official

  60. @Larutus

    July 13, 2025 at 6:27 am

Currently using an iPhone 15 since it launched, I may just get a new battery from Apple when it’s needed and continue with the same phone for another couple years. There is nothing beyond the ability of this device that I currently need.

  67. @LaLuneEstJolie

    July 13, 2025 at 11:33 am

If they make a MacBook with the A18 chip, why couldn’t I just plug my iPhone into a shell laptop and use it as the processing power? I want my mobile phone to be able to desktop stuff. Android does that, but I doubt Apple would.

16e is a budget phone in that it uses the same generation of the A chip as Apple most powerful iPhone of the current generation . Future e iPhone will be like this.

This is Budget in a different sense having the best chip but with other features reduced.

Devices with old chips a few or several generations old are not budget. They are false economy in many ways. The OS update would be shorter in number of years making them vulnerable to malware attack. Fast moving development in IT likely wouldn’t be experienced by these with old chips.

Apple should not have any A chip
In any MacBook. Instead the same M generation with pared down number of CPU or GPU cores and DRAM and other features. That way the MacBook wouldn’t be out of date from day one. People would be better off getting an old M chip MacBook.

This video would have been interesting, if it had come with some recommendations for actual budget phones instead of just wasting time with the “budget” models.
And same thing about laptops, no reason to pay the Apple tax as there is tons of friendly priced alternatives that will do what 99% of people needs.

Samsung fe isn’t a budget phone. It’s an less expensive flagship. Calling it as a budget phone is wrong.

Depends in flipfe is buget in foldable so there is that

    July 15, 2025 at 12:39 am

All this time I thought the FE was for founders edition, like some sort of special edition

  98. @Wesjapa100

    July 15, 2025 at 2:22 am

This FE is the most nonsense so far! It’s more logiccal to get the Z Flip6 instead.

    200-300$ is Budget phone
    Not 900$😂

The best thing is to buy the previous year model they’re just as good

  103. @slitheringsloth

    July 15, 2025 at 6:51 am

out of touch, this is not budget. $100 budget.

  104. @slamtilt01

    July 15, 2025 at 8:13 am

Might have to start looking 👀 at other brands like Blu Products, Motorola instead

In India, actual budget android phones are really creating tough competition to established players like Samsung and Apple. People are getting more than enough features for every penny spent on actual budget android phones. The shift in consumer behavior is really evident and Chinese smartphone makers are delivering as per customers’ feedback and demand.

    July 15, 2025 at 10:44 am

In this economy, the “budget phones” are the only phones most of us can afford. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve been a loyal Motorola user for years!

  107. @eilegz

    July 15, 2025 at 11:21 am

This options as “BUDGET” seems like a bad joke to me. anything over 500 dollars should not be considered budget or even midrange. People get used to be scammed and now its normalizing Companies overpricing everything.

  108. @williamlouie569

    July 15, 2025 at 11:48 am

You can call it budget but doe not make it so, not with price of $900!

  109. @fossilknifeful

    July 15, 2025 at 12:21 pm

I’m done buying Flagship iPhones. Replaced my Pro with a base model, haven’t looked back. Smaller lighter and fits in a smaller pockets and some cup holders. That’s the best feature IMO.

  110. @shaunng8309

    July 15, 2025 at 5:02 pm

    Budget fe?? Totally over priced

  111. @tbird2006

    July 15, 2025 at 6:05 pm

I would definitely buy a Macbook “SE” in a funky color.

  112. @LongNguyen-ce8nn

    July 15, 2025 at 6:20 pm

Why would I buy a “budget” phone for $900. When I can buy a cheaper premium phone from older gen?

  113. @adden2242

    July 15, 2025 at 8:20 pm

Im a filipino amd I adore budget phones like the Honor branded phone and the Tecno brand those are really budget brands! more than 700 bucks is very expensive!
