Tim Cook built Apple up to being a $4 trillion company but in the process sowed the seeds which could well reduce Apple to being only a $3 Trillion company within the next year. The issue is that Tim Cook’s only real skill was squeezing as much profit as possible out of the supply chain.
A few years ago after RAM prices crashed Micro begged Apple to pay a little more for their RAM so that they could invest in new chip fabs to meet the next boom. Tim refused which sowed the seeds for Apple and everyone else’s catastrophic shortage of RAM chips. Also because Tim Cook ensured that no one would make any profit out of making DDR4 and DDR5 RAM chips Micron and others switched to a different kind of RAM more suited to data centres.
Now due to extreme RAM and flash memory shortage the new $899 M6 Mac Mini only has 16Gb of RAM and 256Gb of flash memory which makes it unsuited to general purpose computing. If you give it a sensible amount of RAM and flash memory then this ups the price by 50%.
Tim Cook has also not invested much into Software development which means that whereas Google has state of the art Gemini AI in its android phones Apple intelligence failed which forced Apple to license Gemini AI for its phones. This means that the Apple version of Gemini AI will always be around a year behind the version in android phones.
I don’t have good vibes about John Ternus because being a mechanical engineer he is likely to double down on making Apple hardware better and not invest as much in Apple software.
