In 2019, Amazon signed the Climate Pledge, a commitment to become a net-zero carbon business by 2040. Dave Clark, Amazon’s chief of consumer retail, and Kara Hurst, head of the company’s sustainability efforts, sit down with entrepreneur and activist Lindsay Levin to discuss how the company is planning to reduce its carbon footprint across all aspects of business — while inviting other companies to join them in this transformation.

This talk was part of the Countdown Global Launch on 10.10.2020. (Watch the full event here: .) Countdown is TED’s global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. Get involved at

It would be useful if they paid their taxes, too.

And paid their workers better. Or maybe even treated them decently. How’re those warehouse employees that are having to go to the bathroom in bottles, because they don’t have enough break to walk to the bathroom and back without sanctions? Funny how Amazon warehouses always pop up in communities with high poverty rates, where people have no choice but to tolerate their employment, that at times borders on modern day slavery.

I have stopped buying things from Amazon and have changed to buying from ebay instead since I saw Amazon commercials supporting the radical leftist plot of Green New Deal with its narrative about man-made climate change (formerly called man-man global warming) and trying to attain ZERO CO2 emission in the USA, which is another way of saying Amazon supports the banning of fossil fuels in the USA only, which is a radical left policy that China, the No. 1 fossil fuel user in the world, would like to see being imposed in the USA as it would destroy the industry, economy ad fossil fuel-powered military of the USA while allowing China to continue to use fossil fuels to power and expand its industry, economy and military.
I call for all patriotic Americans to boycott Amazon until it stop being an obsequious cohort of the radical left.

TWENTY YEARS what a ridiculous timescale, how about you do it in 5, and while you are at it pay some taxes. Oh and stop exploiting your workers quite so badly.

Absolute lies; the current government there is torching its jungles like there’s no tomorrow.

This is like listening to a drunkards new years resolution; onerous and uninspiring.

Greenhouse gases went up 45% in 30 years. By 2025: 66% of people will live in water stressed areas. Water stress will threaten 50% of thermal powered electricity. Water stress will threaten 30% of planned hydro electricty. Fossil fuels have been 80% of global energy for over 25 years. Electricity is 20% of global energy. Renewable electricity is 4% of global energy. Solar & wind electricity is 2% of global energy. North Euro solar panels work 11% of the time. North Euro onshore wind turbines work 22% of the time. North Euro offshore turbines work 30% of the time. The F-35 fighter jet works 11% of the time.

    From 1971 – 2018 earth heating averaged 0.47 watts/m².
    From 2010 – 2018 earth heating went up 46% to 0.87 watts/m².
This is called rapid heat acceleration — or in Olde English, “Ouch that burns!”

By 2040 15% of global energy will be renewable. By 2050 only 30% of global energy will be renewable, assuming all goes well. We must stop burning 50% of fossil fuels in 10 years to survive. This cannot be done. Most solar solar panels will become un-recyclable garbage generating 6 million tons of waste per year by 2050.

Lead the target to hit the target. Cap fossil emissions relative to 2019 below 90% in 2021, 80% in 2022 down to 0% in 2030.

It’s what the science says is the right path. It’s where the marketplace is trending. It’s what consumers want. Oh, and you make more money for spending less.

It was really an eye opening video.

    • Bart Roberts

      October 20, 2020 at 8:22 pm

@Mike C We’re very much agreed on the misinformation. France had been a suspect case for decades; everyone in the industry was mystified by how France’s nuclear costs could be so low. (Well, okay, we knew they were cheating). And then the nuclear audit scandal broke, and those who followed it closely figured out that France had been hiding 70% of the cost of its nuclear, cutting corners, disposing of its wastes illegally at sea, covering up on a monumental scale. What France admits to is awful enough, but the numbers tell us there’s a lot more undisclosed.

      It’s worse for petro.

If public servants responsible for permits and licenses to extract or trade fossil emitting materials are persuaded to cap fossil emitting activities relative to 2019 below 90% in 2021 (some say we’re down 17% already), 80% in 2022 down to 0% at a steady pace by 2030 then the transition won’t be “paid for” by anyone. People will just know the real scarcity of the resource and the price of alternatives on the Market will adjust accordingly, with everyone paying their fair share based on the price agreed to by buyers and sellers given those scarcity levels. This is how Adam Smith conceived the Free Market to work. Winners and Losers get picked by the budgets of households, not politburo expert panels who think oil needs subsidy.

In a part of the United States with more than 17,000 years of human history, cultural preservation advocate Tracie Revis is working to turn the Ocmulgee Mounds into Georgia’s first national park and preserve. This park would be co-managed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, bringing the tribal voice back to an area they were forcibly removed from 200 years ago. Revis explores the complex feelings of caring for this land and shows how it’s fostering healing in return.
