Valve’s PC game console, the Steam Machine, is coming but it won’t be cheap, thanks to the ongoing memory shortage referred to as RAMageddon.

The window to buy the console will started today and will be open for three days. Those who do not complete their purchase will lose their reservation, and it will go to someone else.

@nanashi5139Is it though if I can get a PC with better performance and load Steam OS on it?

Nice! PC is the way to go now that Sony is not releasing physical media anymore.

@gamingfromjohnwaynenope just need to validate it once in a while then you can play it off line. I do it all the time on Steam Deck

@gamingfromjohnwayne Yeah, but with PC games that can be played offline there’s a greater chance of you being able to get a version that you can backup to an archive. Also multiple stores out there for PC games. You aren’t just locked in to one store like Playstation. And Sony just killed the PS3 and Vita stores.

@JasonB808What happens when VALVE shuts down the verification? Is there any other way to check in or are you no longer a le to access the game?

This is literally the worst spent money ever. You can still buy a used prebuilt that outperforms this tiny box for days with better compute and gpu. My advice walk away from this toaster until it goes in a mega sale. It’s not worth more than 600-700 bucks

@gamingfromjohnwaynethe point is, if PlayStation is going all digital then it’s best to go to PC which is the far superior digital platform for a variety of different reasons. Such a simple concept to understand

You can easily build a 8.1 liter PC for this price that is over twice as fast and load up steam OS on it. You can build even cheaper if you don’t care about size of PC.

I built my ~9L PC like 6 months ago for around the same price. 9800x3d and 5070, which is probably like 4x the performance at least

Should have played the Halo theme right when the system was exposed in box.

Shouldn’t even be showcasing this gigantic ripoff device. Shame on Valve and all the tech channels trying to show these unboxing with a straight face. This is not how home gaming is supposed to be. $1049 and you don’t even get a controller?? PC gaming or No, a “console” GETS A CONTROLLER NO MATTER WHAT
