With one being 499 and the other being 699, the choice isn’t so hard.
In France though, the 4a 5G is 499, but the 5 is 629. The choice is way less obvious. A 129 premium for 90 Hz, wireless charging and IP rating is much more compelling than if it was a 200 difference.

But on Pixel 5 you are losing headphone jack, bigger screen, and the under screen speaker isn’t good. So for me, Pixel 5 isn’t worth. Even for 130€. It depend on your needs.

      October 14, 2020 at 8:54 pm

Similar thing in the UK. Pixel 5 is £599. 4a 5G is £499.
Much easier to justify the extra cost in Europe.

I treated myself with to a Pixel 5. fancied a smaller phone.

The pixel 5 is a pretty small phone but it looks huge in her hands 😂 I’ve been watching CNET for years and I never realized how small Lin is.

Got my Pixel 5 coming tomorrow, but I had a chance visit a phone shop and have a go with them today, and I have to disagree with this review. As soon as you compare the screens you can easily see the Pixel 5 better made and has a brighter and slightly sharper display with smoother scrolling. This is on top of the extra ram, wireless charging and water proofing. The Pixel 5 doesn’t seem over priced, especially when I get a pair of Bose Qc35 ii for preordering 😉

    • Onouphrios

      October 14, 2020 at 4:50 pm

L, should’ve waited a month or two when they drop the price for $400 🤦🏿‍♂️

    • Warren Sayer

      October 14, 2020 at 4:55 pm

@Onouphrios current phone is having serious battery issues so I couldnt wait. Also helps ygst I’ve been looking for a new pair of headphones too.

    • Chelle

      October 14, 2020 at 5:14 pm

I think the 5 is worth it for IP 68, more ram, wireless charging, better screen. It’s way better. people don’t understand these things.

  10. Jonathan Figueroa

    October 14, 2020 at 4:04 pm

Headphone jack > Water resistance imo. In the 10+ years of using expensive smart phones I don’t think water resistance ever came in handy. That’s including the 4 years I’ve been with a water resistant phone. Rather have my headphone jack back.

Please stop using the Blue Yeti X like that, it’s a side-address microphone. This is why it’s picking up loads of the desk noise since that’s what the mic is pointed at.

@Trevor Bohns I don’t know about that I have Note 10+ and the baby pictures is just great some people thought it was taken by professional photographer 😂 specially when you have a good optical zoom to capture anything they do

    • Joseph Lusk

      October 17, 2020 at 4:50 am

@Obi Dean Not really, saw a review that had Genshin Impact running at max settings no problem on the Pixel 5. It’s got to be one of the toughest games to run on Android.

    • Obi Dean

      October 17, 2020 at 6:24 am

@Joseph Lusk It may can play well now but in future, games will become more complex and have higher requirements. Snapdragon 765 performance actually almost equivalent to Snapdragon 845 from 2 years ago. If you’re diehard stock Android fan and game on phone (I don’t), Pixel 4 XL is very decent alternative

Pixel is android for apple users .. I have both Samsung and pixel .. pixel is just simpler and you don’t have to adjust settings to make it fast .. Samsung always will offer more but also have more confusing settings and issues. Pixel gets updates fast and regular where I have had android 11 for 4 months now and I see Samsung still has not given my update for that phone. He it is October.

    • Christian B.

      October 17, 2020 at 9:38 pm

As some one who uses both os stock android and ios at the same time i understand why you would want to do so, both os are realy good at this point its only about prefference now. I would still recommend you to atleast wait one or two years until google updates their camera sensores.

Face it, now the cheap 5G iPhone 12’s are about to be released it’s safe to say the plastic Pixel 5 and 4A 5G’s about to tank too. 😂💯

    • nuyou21

      October 15, 2020 at 8:11 am

@Kevin J 😂🤣🤦‍♂️ Wow, you sound like you’ve been crying? It’s no wonder you hide behind a fake profile as your even more embarrassing than the overwhelming number of Android users that switched to buy the iPhone SE instead of buying the Pixel 4a. It’s no wonder Pixel phones tank each year. Poor crying Fandroids! 💰😂🎤

@nuyou21 Wow I guess your forget the days when the HTC Evo destroyed the iphone in every way. But then again you iphone sheep are stupid farm animals. Same phone every year and way out dated software so far behind in customization.

@Anthony Plays 😂🤣 And yet the iPhone XR is the 2nd best selling phone worldwide after the iPhone 11. While looking at the poor number of Pixel 4A 5G units produced it’s safe to say even Google knows it’s gonna tank like the previous Pixels. 💰😂🎤

  31. Weekend Warrior

    October 15, 2020 at 12:04 pm

I don’t understand why everyone just says they offer wireless and reverse wireless charging, but not saying the watts… Also this year’s chipset is worse than last year’s… They needed a pixel 5 ultra, with 120hz, added 3rd telephoto lens, and a 865 chip.

    • dtdaun

      October 19, 2020 at 8:19 pm

Don’t need the 120 imo, better Soc would be nice but I’m not a games so it’s fine, honestly the screen size I couldn’t agree more with. 256 would be a nice one but ok 128 is decent. But then again just adding a larger screen, would they charge 799?

Will definitely wait until Black Friday for the Pixel 5 to hopefully drop in price. That’s probably when I’ll get it.

    • Sloppy McFloppy

      October 18, 2020 at 2:46 am

If it drop to $600 or $500 then it is a good deal

  43. J-Rod26

    October 17, 2020 at 7:21 pm

Now it’s probably not the one I’ll get, but is it just me, or is the standard 4a still the most interesting/conceptually fun one out of this lineup? Something about that super minimal approach at 350 with great camera and software is appealing. That said, I think I agree with you about the 4a 5g being the right choice. I feel like 699, while a decent price, is still just a bit to high for what the 5 gets you relative to the 4a 5g at 499.

    • Melvin Lopez

      October 19, 2020 at 1:30 am

I agree with you on the 4a. Feel the same way… I wish the 4a 5G was same size screen as the regular 4a.

    • J-Rod26

      October 19, 2020 at 1:45 am

@Melvin Lopez I completely agree. Or even the size as the 5. 6.2 inches isn’t a massive phone by any means, but I’m really digging the idea of a smaller form factor this time around

  44. Matthew Lemmers

    October 18, 2020 at 4:21 am

The Pixel 5 doesn’t earn it’s pride in my opinion. Not when they announced the 4A 5G right at the same time. The 90hz display to me is not worth the price difference. The fact that Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 FE for the same price with better specs it doesn’t make any sense to buy one of these. Yeah you get the stock experience but most Android manufacturers have software that is just as good.

  45. Chris

    October 18, 2020 at 8:30 am

The 5 is such a waste of money. 4a 5g all the way.

  46. gabz groove

    October 18, 2020 at 4:04 pm

Since CNET says the pixels weak camera is pushing it towards iPhone… i will sign up here and now for a giveaway of the Pixel 5 from CNET to me. hey it could happen

  47. Chris Dimo

    October 19, 2020 at 2:04 am

I guess it depends what you value. For me, wireless charging is a must and worth the extra dollars.

  48. hiblendmedia

    October 19, 2020 at 9:45 am

The cpu/gpu doesn’t warrant the cost for the Pixel 5. I’d skimp out on water resistance, wireless charging, and 2GB of RAM for pretty much the same specs and better speakers on the Pixel 4a 5G.
