I have been telling people about a personal care robot for quite some time. I said if I lived to get to be 100 years old, by then, they should have something there that mimics nursing care within my own personal home so I don’t have to go to a nursing home. Love the direction this is going in!

Just goes to show how impressive the hand dexterity and control of the Teslas Optimus is even if they were not autonomous

  14. @Kneephry

    November 2, 2024 at 12:36 pm

The only general use robots I’ve seen undergo mass deployment are basically no more than an expensive security camera (Boston Dynamics Spot and Amazon Astro for example). Basically it feels like these robots capable of autonomous physical labor are going to be one year away for twenty years or more just as they have for the last twenty years (since I think Honda’s Asimo is at least that old).

I work in the casino hotel hospitality industry in Las vegas, and I can see robots like these one day cleaning rooms, cleaning restrooms, and cleaning the casino floor. The Housekeeping Union’s better watch out, and stop with all their demands, or the casino owners will just replace them with these robots. In fact, there’s a Walmart in Las vegas, that uses a robot to clean their floors after the store closes. And, there’s already virtual dealers in some casinos, and Robot Bartenders.

At what point do ppl not realize that they’re lazy? You’ll die earlier the longer you sit.

    • @PigRipperLAW

      November 2, 2024 at 2:01 pm

Not wasting life doing repetitive chores doesn’t mean people sit all daylong. People also have this category of activity called hobbies. No need to work means all the more time to enjoy life.

    • @zelowatch30

We have plenty of people. We have 8 billion. The problem is the low wages, poor working conditions and an underfunded education system.
I fear the wealthy will decide to use these bots instead of fixing the exploitation system that grants them such privileges & power. What will happen to the poor and the middle class once all the jobs are gone and there is no social safety net? I fear the wealthy will use the bots to wipe us all out. That’s what makes most sense. These people don’t care about humanity especially the less privileged.

I wonder what the real product is like? Will it need constant software updates? Will it need tune ups or recalibration? Will it have multiple recalls because of safety concerns. Will it become obsolete after 10 years of service because it it because the software cant be updated?. Some of these problems already exist with my apple products. Vehicles seem to have multiple recalls and updates. Imagine these are the same type of engineers writing the codes. “We will fix it in post” is the attitude nowadays. Will there be subscription requirement? Of course there will be. I dont want to spend 10-20k on a product and in 10 years it because a paperweight.
