Most reporters will not fully report this issue. People need to know that there are US citizens and Green card workers willing and skilled for jobs in the US that their application is never considered. There is no requirement to hire skilled US citizens first. The employer controls the visa so companies get a worker who will not complain or go get another job with better pay and better conditions for years and companiesshouldbe challenged about preferring to hire visa holders even when US talent is available. Even in tech contract work, in the Us it is dominated by visa holding companies that somehow do not consider us citizens for local jobs and clearly have discrimination going on in who they hire for contract work to supply workers to every company and government org.

As someone that has worked in interviewing for IT talent, I concur. I’ve seen better local talent with better qualifications turned down by upper management in favor of visa workers.

For any FTE positions, even with consulting companies, there is by law a necessity to advertise the job and prove that there were no PR/ citizen applicants before hiring temporary workers. So what you are stating is not entirely true. If companies are not hiring FTEs but prefer contractors, that is an entirely different issue. However , even when the contracting companies hire FTEs, the law still is applicable – they have to give preference to residents first

It’s related to India. They are one sided for immigration and high skilled immigration. India will be closed. Ai came from the US not overseas teams. The issue comes down to not wanting to pay people in the US the proper salary. India is not the resource, and I believe will continue to create more issues in the tech sector. There are several engineers who have the skill set and the ability to perform. But you enter an India based teleworker or onsite resource their resources go back home to India and they bypass US for growth. This is a topic that needs to be addressed or the practice stopped. Having India work with other countries in BRICS should be a security concern. India did not write the book on tech, we did.
