YouTube is making it clear, your ad blocker is no longer welcome. If you want an ad-free watching experience, you’ll have to purchase YouTube Premium. Traditionally, ad blockers on browsers have been able to prevent ads from displaying by intercepting them before they reach your device. But YouTube is looking to outsmart this process by implementing server-side ad injection. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry we’re breaking it down in this video.

The problem isn’t just YT itself. It’s YT creators, there are other platforms and they all refuse including TechCrunch to upload to third party websites to help make them lose traffic. I try to find YT channels off of the platform, but apparently the YT creators that complains about YT don’t care enough to actually move or have a second channel. It’s rather sad. After YT started doing this, I pretty much limited what I’ve been doing here. For all music, I just switched completely to Itunes, and for other stuff like documentaries I switched to curiousitystream and then use nebula. Anything else, I try to download and use locally.

It is a service, and don’t see anything wrong with them charging you by making you watch the ad. Nothing is free, paid for it, or just don’t use it.

I actually got a weird block today when trying to go to Youtube. I got a white page with just a few lines of text saying it detected something malicious from my IP address and placed a block on it temporarily. It said it could be due to a browser extension, but I’m suspecting it’s because of uBlock Origin. I reloaded and my sub page loaded immediately. I’m worried about losing my channel and having my google account I need for work compromised, so I’m just disabling ublock for now. It’s honestly not making me want to sub to premium because I’ve already got tons of bills, I don’t need another just for youtube.

I should add I’m just a regular person who just wants to watch videos and upload my own. I write books. I have no clue what malicious code they detected from Firefox.

AI is shaping every aspect of our lives — but only a handful of tech giants have a say in what this technology can do. So what’s going on with world governments? Bilawal Sidhu, host of “The TED AI Show,” sits down with geopolitical expert Ian Bremmer to unpack the UN’s just-released plan for “Governing AI for Humanity,” a report that focuses on the urgent need to guide AI towards helping everyone thrive, rather than just the powerful few. Together, they explore the complexities of AI’s rapid growth on a worldwide scale and take a clear-eyed look at the pivotal decisions facing us in the very near future. (Recorded at The TED AI Show on September 10, 2024 )
