    I think a lot of this makes sense and will be a change for the better. However it is not factually correct to claim that a Truck with a Half Load burns the same amount of fuel as a Truck with a Full Load. Unfortunately prefacing your argument with this falsehood devalued the rest of the message which was spot on.

      I was thinking the same thing, but depending on the length and speed of the drive, one big load would be cheaper and result in less emissions than multiple smaller ones, right? Like in general

      He also then claims it’s an opportunity for the driver, LOL!
      Extras driving and extra stops for you … so helpful.
      Really it’s great for companies that will profit off fuller trucks, that’s about it.

      Just looked up what your talking about. It’s called freight ton or freight rate.

      (Tons carried*miles traveled) ÷ fuel consumed= Freight rate.

      The efficiency is easy to find and is the industry standard for determining the cost of travel as opposed to MPG. Weird oversight.

      Is that what weigh stations are for?

    Something has to change. My crates went from $1800 to $2500 to send to the USA. 2 crates, $5000 via air freight and 2 crates $2100 by sea freight and then truck to my warehouse. Why is air freight so much?

    Dream bigger… okay

    1 – intensive recycling. Nothing goes into the landfill. Glass and metal are the easiest: melt it and recast it. Plastics: chemical recycling or incineration. Wood & paper: break it down and compost.
    2 – decentralized production. Aim to never transport anything more than 100 kilometres. No, you don’t get to transport parts half-way around the world and assemble on-site. Vertically integrate the whole manufacturing process within 100 kilometres of the consumer.
    3 – build to last and build for repairability. Costs more up-front but saves in the longterm.
    4 – tax to steer toward sustainable circular economy. Subsidies have been used to prop up poor practices, so now tax and subsidize to encourage good practices.

    The best way to optimize a step is to eliminate the step.

    Move the water through canals from coast to coast and use the canals to move freight. Carbon sinks with the water and fewer trucks. Super cheap distribution, water distribution nationwide, and stored energy. Not to mention all the algae , fish, and regular farms all irrigated.

    As a trucker, I have been seeing more integrated loads. My only problem is time and delivery. For 2000 miles I have 4 stops, no problem. The problem is that the loads are scheduled to take a week to deliver. For that week I’m sacrificing my time. This may work great for the truckers that work off of salary. As a contractor it may hurt you because the overhead is so high.

      Trains moving freight is really really common. For things you need to not sit in a box out in the sun for days though, it’s a bad idea. Think groceries, or just about everything else the average person buys in a week.

    You can make your modes as efficient as you like but even a 100% full truck will be creating GHGs. Efficiency will never stop the Arctic from melting. If all the trucks were electric then it wouldn’t matter that they were 50% empty.

    While not certain to the exact formula for measuring here, but it Most Definitely DOES use more energy, gas, etc. to haul heavier (full) loads of goods. At any rate- I don’t disagree with the general point

    It’s kind of weird you calling it full truckload freight when the animation you used originally had LTL written on it. Just odd in general using the wrong nomenclature for an industry you’re doing innovation in.

    Great theory. Historically tho, without a loading n logistics depot to gather these part loads it will not work. Truckers make money when moving and not stopping and if they have multiple stops to fill out their load, they will lose money

    Admittedly I don’t know much about logistics but I can’t imagine the system doesn’t already work in a similar way to what your describing. Carrying a load to California then picking up a new load and driving home isn’t new. I live next to the head quarters of Creech trucking. That’s kind of what they do. They have a whole call center dedicated to organizing efficient trucking routes. I can’t speak to the other modes but I would assume they have similar systems.

    Is what you’re selling a market place where warehouses can sell contractors and firms excess loads? Kind of like an ebay for logistics.

    Actually I think the solution would be modular truck trailers…. Hear me out real quick.. Why you would only unload say half and full load in front of an existing load each time without prioritizing the new load over the old one? How may times would this make since? I bet only 30% of the time. So you would have to completely unload the truck.
    How about we rethink the entire depot and the trailers to be modular boxes several different sizes. the trailers could unload themselves, the boxes could be loaded and unloaded without the drivers waiting for several hours just idling the engines.
    I know this exists already its called a port that has shipping containers! Picture one of these scaled down and each truck like a cargo ship with a overhead drive through loader unload-er servicing 10 trucks at a time. Just a thought. Then you would know each truck is full.

      You’re almost describing the concept of swap bodies which has been popular in Europe for decades. They are containers with foldable legs that can be picked up and dropped off by a truck. They’re 7.45m to 7.82m long, and since a truck can typically carry two of them it’s almost as long as a regular 53′ trailer in the US.

    Ideally, yes.
    Except larger corporations tend to intentionally squeeze down inventory to certainly locations / countries to create shortage, inflating the price.
    Unless there are large amount of players involved, or government regulations forcing certain capacity to be fulfilled. It’s just a dream.
    Alternatively, it is very much possible to push back lorries (trucks) to trains, and or innovating different kind of containers and lorry beds.

    The most easily visible load on the roads is lumber. Stand on the side of any major western Canadian highway and within a very short time you will see B-trains of lumber going both ways. Huge opportunity for the lumber producers and the transportation industry to cut down on emissions.

    This is complete nonsense and is not pushing a green agenda at all, quite the opposite.
    Half empty uses same amount of fuel? That’s not how physics works and this is about wages for drivers, this guy lowering his own costs.
    Oh and if drivers want to earn a bit more, they can work a bit more – in the US context, where workers get zero protection. this translates as abuse.
    And that’s just a couple of the many problems with this video – Fox News can air this but not anyone reasonable.
    This video should be taken down and the review process for new videos should be reconsidered.
