What if you could control digital devices using just the power of thought? That’s the incredible promise behind the Stentrode — an implantable brain-computer interface that collects and wirelessly transmits information directly from the brain, without the need for open surgery. Neurotech entrepreneur Tom Oxley describes the intricacies of this breakthrough technology, which is currently enrolling participants in human trials, as well as how it could help restore dignity to those with disabilities — and transform the future of communication.

After millions of people having spent millions of hours thinking, solving problems and creating live-changing technology, there will be those who will rush to thank (usually loudly) their magical sky-daddies for what humanity has created when we stopped believing in magical explanations and decided to do science. The saddest thing is that some of those people will deny scientific facts and oppose scientific research when the latter contradict their magical stories.
If you are offended by the above, you’re part of the problem. Please realize that we don’t owe respect to your silly claims. You have the right to believe whatever you want, not the right to not be told that it’s silly. Meanwhile, humanity is progressing, curing the sick, making the blind see, making the deaf hear, making the lame walk. Exactly like in your magical stories, but this time in reality. So next time you feel the need to express your gratitude to someone, thank the scientists.

There is a dark side to that technology that cannot be ignored. What triggered me was the part near the end where Tom is talking about sharing feelings. That means not only are you sensing – reading the emotions, the plan is to induce them too. THAT is the game changer that takes this device from medical aid to terrifying mind / behavior control. This device is implanted and wireless…. Considering just how bad the state of computer security is, and how things are getting worse not better, the risk is way WAY too great. What could possibly go wrong with a device like that? Imagine going to the voting booth and as you are about to check that box, a wave of fear grabs you and you change your vote. Or worse, used by nefarious groups to enslave people by inducing fear, pain, love for certain behaviors. History teaches us that people will misuse technology like this for the absolute worst possible reasons. This technology is in its infancy. We went from the Wright brothers first flight with fabric and sticks to a moon landing in less than 70 years. I give this technology less than 10 to be horribly abused.

Heck what about identical twins? Better yet what if one of them is pregnant. Now what’s the difference? Can her Nuro-link read the baby, or is it our brain reading her brain subconsciously reading the babies. 🤔

Will we be able to see the mental stress we exhibit. being born instead of birthing. 🤔

Brain Language? Sign me up. Communicating your thoughts seem far too excessive, communicating neural activity to other brains and having those brains reprocess that, sounds interesting. Maybe you feel sorrow and you have response “X” for it, the other brain might have some other convoluted response “Y” to it. The question is, even if we all have a universal set of letters (neural activity), is our grammar (interpretation) the same?

Crazy comments on here about mind control and mind reading. This is not meant to diminish the awesomeness of the device, but it’s simply an interface. It would be like suggesting you could read my mind if you hacked my mouse. You might be able to make my mouse act wonky but you wouldn’t know what I was thinking.
