Check the hands of any serious gymnast, and you will be amazed at the calluses built up, and hopefully not ripped or torn.

Gymnasts are …mutant humans …who should not be trusted. Have you ever tried to do a backflip?? It’s not humanly possible! Or maybe they’re aliens…

Why do some gymnast spit in their hands before performing on bars? Also, why do gymnast seem to salute 2 or 3 times? Are there more than one panel of judges on any given apparatus? Thanks

Vault is definitely way more scary than rings, because everything on the rings is meant to be absolutely controlled, even the flips and the dismount. With the rings you are grabbing something or at least using that to initiate the dismount, but most of the time you are pressing into a strength position or swinging to it. Vault on the other hand, you run at basically full speed and punch your feet onto a springboard that launches you at a slanted table that you push off of with your arms to then perform a very complex flip and hopefully land on your feet. You can easily hurt yourself on vault because the mats aren’t very soft and if you mess up your entry you can’t control your body in the air, so you could land on your head or just destroy your ankles/knees with a bad landing (it happens A LOT). I have a friend that completely dislocated her elbow training on vault, because her hands were slightly uneven for the push off. Sure, you’re high up with the still rings, but it is one of the most consistent apparatus in gymnastics.

  31. Mark Lee

What do you mean by “how”? Everyone knows US “athletes” take doping. That’s why US is the only country in the world which doesn’t participate in the international anti-doping committee and only takes coping tests among the labs of their own. 😂😂

Did I mention forbidding complex gymnastic tricks just because US “athletes” were unable to perform them even under the doping? 😅

  36. Adam Menzies

    July 17, 2021 at 4:18 pm

And Dominique, can we not mention Oksana Chusovitina for record setting? The woman is 45, competing before Simone was even born, and going for her EIGHTH OLYMPICS!

    • longbranch11207

      July 18, 2021 at 12:21 am

Not everyone is checking for her like that. Dawes have a lot going on give the woman a break it’s not that serous. Dawes is the only American woman that went to the Olympics in gymnastics three times . That’s what she was talking about making history as an American

    • Adam Menzies

      July 18, 2021 at 12:32 am

whether a gymnast is wearing grips or not actually doesn’t have to do much with costs, but it’s just preference! take a look at Lieke Wevers for example, she doesn’t use grips but the Netherlands has those readily available

Oh cool, some of my girls and I met her when we were still in competitive gymnastics. She was really funny, we kept trying to get her to race us (we were kids, probably about ten years old) and she would start to run and then stop immediately, so we just kept running without her only to realize she totally duped us. 😂😂

Yes, they use honey instead of grips in China and other countries.

  55. Laura

    July 18, 2021 at 3:55 am

She’s awesome and seems lovely. Although imagine having a Barbie doll of yourself, saving it for years in case you had children to pass it on to, and then it just gets the haircut/decapitation treatment of most Barbies with little kids. 🙂 (In hindsight, if I were her daughter/son, I’d be kicking myself, because I’d think it was amazing as an adult to have a Barbie of my mother.)

  56. Patricia Giles

Bouncing the pelvis into the lower uneven bar for a person with male genitals wouldn’t feel too good, I imagine.😬😱

    • MD-722

      July 19, 2021 at 2:20 pm

Moceanu had her balance beam mount, whilst Borden’s is a twisting straddle jump (also performed on the beam).

    • Rhythmic Elegance

      July 21, 2021 at 12:22 am

@MD-722 Wasn’t Moceanu’s mount a Silivas? Or was it a variation of it that she put a twist to that made it hers?

  61. Wendy O Koopa

    July 19, 2021 at 12:14 am

Men do perform vault as one of their exercises and women did use to do rings but over time things swapped around.

  62. Wendy O Koopa

    July 19, 2021 at 12:40 am

I have to agree with Dominique on the old vault. To imagine it a little better for people who don’t want to look it up? Imagine a pommel horse with the metal bars removed and possibly shortened and you have vault. 😳.

Why is the governing body reducing the points given to the feats that Simone does? Why just why?

    • Valeria Vega

      July 21, 2021 at 9:28 pm

      1. They say it’s too dangerous what she is doing.
      2. They don’t want the field to be sit far apart.

Either way, they are essentially punishing her for her greatness.

Darn. Clickbait. Enjoyed Dominique Daws, but I really did want an answer to that question. She got asked it twice but couldn’t answer. I guess you need a collab with a gymnast, physicist and a trainer/anatomist?

  87. Manzell Blakeley

    July 23, 2021 at 2:39 am

The boys are generally too tall for uneven bars… and I don’t think many women are built to excel in the rings.

  88. Cake 36

Simone Bisle in the last Olympics passed ahead of her Chinese competitor because of the Judges. Her chinese rival did everything flawlessly and still lost in at least two events. Simone is heavier and “sticking” too hard (sometimes incompleting the land safely).
I believe she’s staying more for political reasons since she is such a great influence in the US, but I’m afraid that that is pushing her into a (possibly) career ending injury.
