Life full of wisdom makes a huge difference not just to your own well-being and inner capacities, but to everyone around you. Wisdom is something others may find quite challenging to attain.

Wisdom is not held in high regard in this country. Older people are discarded like waste. Older people should be respected and looked after. The disrespect is astonishing.

The old who behave like foolish youngsters do not innately deserve respect, nor do the young innately deserve to be treated as fools.

Watching this was a profoundly moving experience for me. I’ve been listening to On Being, witnessing Krista embody these practices and teachings over and over again through her deeply human, soulful, gratifying conversation spaces. To see her summarize the complex, nuanced art of deep listening into such a condensed talk is a marvel. This is a gift for humanity. I’m a bit sad that most people watching YouTube won’t get it, but I know I’ll be watching this over and over again. Thank you.

I’ve watched quite a few TED talks on this channel, and NGL, this is the first one I had to play at 1.5x speed because she talks so slow, and at 1.5x it seemed normal speed.

02:00 – 05:37 Seeing the generative story of our time. Beyond the narrative of catastrophe, there is ongoing learning, growth and progress happening. Actively look for the forces of good in the world.
06:14 – 09:46 Living the questions. In facing the world’s pain, have the courage to ask and dwell with questions themselves rather than rushing for answers. Questions can guide us to new possibilities.
10:25 – 14:22 Pursuing wholeness. We are called to become more whole human beings, not just professionalized ones. Strive in life-giving directions and embrace the complexity of human nature.
