Low-status neighborhoods in the US are often stuck between stagnating assistance from the government and gentrification at the hands of real estate developers. The result is that the brightest minds are convinced that “success” means leaving town. Urban revitalizer Majora Carter has a solution: What if we treated these communities like struggling companies? She presents a restorative economic approach to capitalism, which seeks to retain talent, build resilient communities and prove that you don’t have to move out of your neighborhood to live in a better one.

*I read about a man in his 50s who started investing in stocks and real estate then retired in 2 years with over $6 million and that is my main goal and I would really appreciate any tips and advice on how to reach this goal in 5 years . Especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in gold, silver and digital currencies BTC, ETH, SOL…*

How many black millionaires are there now ?
how many black business owners are there now ?
How many laws are there against racism are there now ?
How many hate laws are there now ?
So let’s move on and stop rubbing salt in old wounds.
My family arived in America in early 19 hundreds as German immigrants and were handed nothing.
We were discriminated against and during the WW2 even worse. As a child at age 5, I was sold to our neighbor as a servant to an old lady.
then at 15 I was won in a divorce suit to a stepmom who kept me as a servant to her children and home till I was legally an adult at 18 and I left.
how many of you actually lived a life like that?

  9. R Belle

    September 30, 2022 at 1:45 pm

That would be nice…I recall a woman who came to see me in my office. She said she worked for 1 Federal Street building downtown and that it was her job to keep “black” dollars in the black community. Talent retention in urban neighborhoods would certainly increase the value as well as the quality of life for everyone. However, talent should be free to make a choice when their hometown is riddled with systemic racism and crime. Predatory, unethical and illegal efforts by government agencies and employees that violate civil rights should never be deployed to retain any free human being. It is also a form of segregation that prevents the “majority” from becoming culturally competent.

    • The Mean Arena

      September 30, 2022 at 3:40 pm

I can imagine having a job like that where one keeps “white” dollars in the white community. They would be labeled a racist or part of that non-existent systemic racism people keep talking about. We all live in America and we all have access to the same stuff. I’ll be honest though, blacks have more opportunity than any race in America with all the black specific programs etc. for them which IMO is racist and segregative itself.

I love this speaker. The speech is so truthful and powerful for the growth for POC that she couldn’t take a deep breath. It reminds me of the movie ’In Time’ with Justin Timberlake. ‘In Time’ with Justin Timberlake is the truest film example that deals with critical poverty communities.

I do like her ideas about investing money in education and policy making to aid minority communities to defend against predatory business tactics so they can defend themselves in business. Unfortunately, I think she will lose a lot of white ears with the first part of her speech when her main ideas is what she is advocating after the brief history lesson.

This was really interesting. As someone who tends to fall into the category of alt right politically, there are a lot of things I value that seem to be different than those that get talked about at ted talks. However, the one thing that isn’t being addressed on the right side of the spectrum, is that of how we solve the problems of the wealth gap between whites and non whites. I hope, that through yours and those who join you, you’re are able to successfully transform our system to help the ones that need it and deserve it the most. Thanks, I learned a lot and I appreciate the spirit conveyed in this message, especially at the end. Beautifully said.

The fact that you care deeply about others is a very good thing. Maybe you are more of a centrist? (I myself am not a fan of extreme ideology on either the Right or the Left.) There is a magazine you might like called The Economist. I find it is a reliable source for thoughtful, analytical news reporting. Best of luck to you. 💕
