    1. They almost always build on grass, which is unstable

    2. They almost always use old crates that flex and give

    3. They try to stay in control by going slow, which only gives more time to get tired and lose balance

  23. Ethan

The explanation was very stupid. And stating that you are an engineer to gain credibility degrades the value of being an engineer. People would say “Is this what you learn at engineering school?” (I am an engineer, too)

The explanation is not in engineering, but human anatomy. Due to the structural design of knees bending in limited angle, it is hard to make the weight transfer while keeping the pressure point in the center of crate columns walking downwards. Just imagine the difficulty in steping down the stairs when the steps are higher than usual, you will understand what i am saying.

I luv my crates. I have many colors. Blue, red, yellow, green. They are my precious babies that I picked out of peoples garbage. Sounds stupid yes but not as stupid as this challenge. Here’s my rule of thumb: If somebody suggests to me that I do something it’s probably a bad idea

I just feel smart because when I first saw this stupid challenge I instantly said to my gf, they’re failing because they lack the understanding of physics and they’re pushing on something with NO support. Then I see this all being explained. Yup, patting myself on the back. Better than hurting my body for something goofy. 🙂

So “why you’ll fail” but he explains why he thinks its very hard but doesn’t say that its impossible.
At the end he says that the fact you won’t catch him doing it should tell viewers something… I don’t know the guy but for that to be true I’d think he is known as someone who is game to try dangerous challenges. Or maybe its because people know that he isn’t fit enough to attempt it and in order to control your weight going down you would have to be very fit.

This misses a critical failure point, the older crates have rounded or ground down bottoms which do not stack nicely like the newer crates. As you drag them on concrete, the bottom crate get worn down. You even saw it in the video, look at the black crates and how they are concentrated at the top of the pyramid. In my experience the black /duller crates are usually older stock, as opposed to the blue/vibrant crates. Any video you see of people actually completing this are either faked or a product of using newer crates that actually stack really well. The science is right but there is more at play than just science.

This is why bricks for a wall and packages/boxes on a pallet are stacked in a staggered manner. Structurally stronger & far less likely to topple.

  149. Haribol

    September 9, 2021 at 8:45 am

Yeah not sure we really needed an engineer to explain why this is a bad idea and it won’t stop the air heads doing it so let’s all just keep quiet and let them all kill their silly selves. I’m personally looking forward to the ‘hold your breath under water for an hour’ challenge.

  150. Dior Jadore

    September 9, 2021 at 9:46 am

Last year we have a Covid,
    so what’s this year?
    ooooh Milk crate challenge

  151. VoJacked

    September 9, 2021 at 10:09 am

You only need a year or engineering class to understand how this challenge is kinda stupid.

  152. Hunaveli

    September 9, 2021 at 10:35 am

I swear the world has run out of ideas of things to do

  154. wagner55

    September 9, 2021 at 11:44 am

This is where we are in society nowadays 🤦🏻‍♂️. You can get people to climb milk crates and brake some bones but not to wear a face mask.

  155. ShrOOm

    September 9, 2021 at 12:13 pm

I really wanna try this. Looks hella fun even if I break a bone or two

  156. R Babik

    September 9, 2021 at 2:09 pm

The reason Fedex has the rule when loading trucks…

Overlaps not towers. Create a singular flowing structure connected at multiple points, evenly distributing force through the load as opposed to directional force like towers would be.

  157. The_Curl _Miester

    September 9, 2021 at 2:21 pm

Another thing to mention is that as you step on each column you are essentially becoming part of that column. You’re adding both weight and height and because you weigh considerably more than all the crates combined, you raise the centre of mass of the column to a point where it becomes extremely top heavy and unstable. This problem is then compounded by the effects our kind man explained in the video.

  158. Ryan Rosado

    September 9, 2021 at 2:51 pm

Cant believe we so dumb that we need this explained to us

  159. Victor Ivanov

  160. Arindam Paul

    September 9, 2021 at 3:16 pm

I cannot watch the guy speak although I love to listen to engineering as a fellow scientist/engineering. But, the videos of these guys falling makes me feel bad for them. Especially the older guy. They can get into serious injuries.

  161. Coffee Drinker

    September 9, 2021 at 5:24 pm

If you’re someone who hasn’t done the Milk Crate challenge then I applaud you, if you’re someone who has done the milk crate challenge then it’s just a matter of time before natural selection weeds you out

Hm. Putting arms out to the side wont help, its not a tightrope, .. putting yourarms forward? distributing weight so the side to side is minimal might help on the way down’stairs”? Uh Oh… Im curious now…

  166. Joe Urban

    September 9, 2021 at 9:43 pm
