Why we like the unexpected Surface Go 2

Microsoft’s mini Surface returns with a bigger screen and more power. The keyboard and Surface Pen are still not included (and oddly, it runs “Windows 10 in S Mode”) but the tablet is still a welcome addition to Microsoft’s Surface lineup in 2020. Stop looking at your face on the display. Look into the camera! Such a rookie mistake. 👎

The Keyboard Accessory is a must have for any Surface Tablet (Pro 7, X, Go).

If you have already have a mouse and keyboard your kind of set though. it’s a rad accessory that you don’t have to buy right away especially if you’re not looking to pay full price.

Yes there is. If you want full windows apps like the office apps. And if you bring up win 10 S you can easily disable that in settings. Also if u want windows apps but want something draw on and if you dont want to pay $300 for the ipad keyboard and then more than $100 for the pen. My reasons are here argue if you like.

I have the original Go. Enjoy it but not powerful enough. I already have the pen and keyboard so the core M3 option has some appeal.

Dude, with the keyboard, this would cost 129 dollars more. The way it works now you can bundle it together to your liking.

Ok, so can it or can not run regular windows apps (not from MS Store but like an .exe or .msi installer) ?

It can only run microsoft store apps by default but you can easily disable it from settings.

Hey, thanks for your video! It was cool👍🏼
I have a question, whats is better for the university (take notes, netflix, word, power point, web) between the surface go 2 and the surface pro 7? Thanks for your reply😉

MalOow ‘ yeah if you are only doing those, I recommend the surface go 2. However, if you aren’t on a budget and might also want to do more demanding tasks, get the surface pro 7

@Andy Nguyen I totally agree. We have both in our house and the Surface go (original) is a very capable device. We tested it with my office set up with 2 external displays and ran different videos in each screen and opened different office files and had a skype conversation at the same time and the Pentium chip handled it all fine through the surface Dock – so just one cable. The new one will be even more capable and have better battery and screen. It is going to be a great machine. The Surface Pro is already a fabulous machine. It is strange that it can do so much and it is just a slate. There is nothing I have ever wanted to do (including Adobe, and other work) that I cannot do on my surface pro. I just wish it had a better battery. )I have a Surface pro 2017 so the newer ones have a better battery). Although I do now charge it with a 65W PD charger and a USB-C to surface power cable. No more battery anxiety. All good.

I love the concept, however there are troubling issues. Both models have different processors compared to the 7th gen. IPad and it has less horsepower than my $270 HP Laptop which has an actual Intel I3 Core Processor.

Naa $729 for LTE version +$129 keyboard +$100 pen. So how much is that $958 plus tax hahah is better go por surface pro or galaxy tab s6 $730 wt lte and spen

No thank you. The Lenovo Flex 14 with Ryzen 5 3500U , Vega8 Graphics, 12 gigs of ram, 256 gig M.2 and a pen for is around $630 online at the moment… No way I’ll spend the same amount of money for this inferior product!

Microsoft still pushing Windows RT, now renamed Windows S. They just won’t give up on selling a failed product. If you insist on touting this new OS, at least call it something other than Windows and stop confusing people.

iPad mini 5 or surface go 2 (pentium version)?

  20. GamerOne

    May 13, 2020 at 12:08 am

I dont know how I like that it is 729 for the one with the LTE and Intel M chip and yet you still have to pay more for the keyboard attached and pen. It should vary least come with that keyboard for the price.

You are sooooo good at this and soooo engaging. I love the way you make reviewing a technical product like reviewing something that might be designed to make life better. You then judge it on whether it does. You reviews are so very human and engaging. And that is coming from an engineer who now helps people to be more human haha. I always feel that when I come to the end of our reviews … short as they usually are .. that I have simply not had enough of you describing whatever it is. You do that good a job. Please don’t say you will stop doing this. You are fab Dan. Just Fab. I love the Surface Go 2 too. Got the first one for my daughter and she loves it. (Thinking I might get the second one for me…. We shall see if I can swing that haha!!) Thanks, for the review and for all the vids you do. Keep up the fantastic work … The beard suits by the way!

If the keyboard and pen were included then it might be worth its price.

I’ve have been expecting it for about 3 months now. With little to no research someone looking into a Surface product should know and expect the keyboard does not come with it, although Best Buy does sell them in bundles and usually at a better price. I personally have had any no issues with “S” mode which is what I have heard I’ve called for about 2 years now. And, I like knowing where my apps are coming from. I have never installed Chrome on my other PC’s now since the new Edge Chromium is available and in my opinion better than Chrome on PC. Unfortunately bad timing for portable devices on the go, no pun intended. I was really looking forward to the M3 version, but now holding off as I am working only from home.

Tablets really SHOULD have some decent-sized bezels on them. You need a place to hold the thing, and not accidentally touch the screen with your thumb!
