Most Americans in big cities just want to know: What has Toyota done to make its catalytic converters harder to steal?

2 years ago I bought my 1st hybrid (Ford Fusion) and I absolutely love it. Hybrids capture energy that is wasted in an ICE vehicle: rolling to a stop, going downhill, moderate braking, then uses it to power the car at a stop (AC) and get the initial shove of all that weight moving, or just run full electric at low speed. The savings add up and in use it’s no different than an ICE vehicle except less gas stops and less gas per fill up.

That thing is still so ugly

The Prius did not kick start the electric vehicle revolution…no one even thought it was even electric…majority of the time the engine is on, the only time people thought it was electric is when you’re parking the car or pulling out of your drive way. Tesla revolutionized the EV so much that even toyota started to make a bigger battery and plug in which they should have started from the beginning.

0:26 IMHO not everyone is doing it wrong, most of them are, but not all of them.
Something like Tesla Model 3 LR, is just pitch perfect when it comes to powertrain, but I will go with new Prius PHV when it comes to market, because even if I would love to drive full EV, Tesla have so many other driver hostile issues I would be much more irritated driving it – the infotainment, controls, shifter, hold function.
You can have the best powertrain out there, but if the car is uncomfortable or have things like swiping to change D -> R, blinkers like buttons on a steering wheel, that is a big issue for me.

How about that; Toyota finally decided to make the make the Prius a decent looking car! If only they had come to that realization fifteen years ago…

4:14 — Exactly! Here’s how the Model 3 cockpit appears to have been designed:

Franz (showing a completely-blank, wood-trimmed dashboard): Isn’t that gorgeous?! Simple, clean, fresh, and modern! Nothing like it!

Elon: So then how do we engage “Ludicrous Mode” or control the stereo system, or adjust steering wheel?!

Franz: Ah crap! I totally forgot about that…

Line worker: Hey, no problem! Our intern left behind this old VGA monitor. We can just plop on the dash! Nobody will notice!

Even with fast charging, EV just takes too long to charge. A dead batt is a unusable Car. EV batt will still degrade to a point it will need replacement. ICE if well maintained, the engine will not need any replacement. The PHEV version of the new prius look. good.

I think Toyota missing it. Prius is an Icon. The First car in Toyota line up going hybrid. It should be the
first car going full electric. Beside Prius can’t beat Rav4. Toyota not missing a sale anyway, Prius is a nitch sales. Driving it is a statement. Not everyone wants it.

Toyota missed a huge opportunity. They should have transitioned all their cars to hybrid tech by now. If they did that they could be the leader in electrification instead of Tesla.

    • deekay2

      November 27, 2022 at 10:44 pm

Toyota features many hybrid vehicles. The new Prius NOT jumping on the all electric bandwagon and staying hybrid is why I like it even more.

    • pac7025

      November 28, 2022 at 1:17 am

@deekay2 The point that I was trying to make was that Toyota should have transitioned to an all hybrid lineup. Offering gas and hybrid versions of cars is unnecessary.

    • Kevin Fernandez

      November 28, 2022 at 11:45 am

Nope, they don’t wish to retire their position as leader of the entire car world to be the leader of electrification

    • deekay2

      November 28, 2022 at 11:59 am

@pac7025 I disagree. Not everybody wants a more expensive and much more complicated car. Toyota/Lexus builds some of the most reliable gas powered cars in the world which are still serviceable by most mechanics outside the dealership after the warranty expires. Hybrids are much more complicated and expensive out of warranty.

    • Nickie McNichols

      November 28, 2022 at 10:32 pm

I can’t believe Toyota still builds 100% ICE vehicles. How archaic.

I’m not sure why you say it will be available with yellow paint. Everything I read on the internet says the United States will not get that color.

  23. Cross

    November 27, 2022 at 11:14 pm

it will fail cuz there isnt a all electric option. i think the huge increase in gas prices and the fact some places had such huge lines due to gas shortages…. no one wants to deal with gas anymore. not only that but little changes like no more oil changes. no more bi yearly smog checks for gas/hybrid cars in California which isnt exactly cheap. in the USA ppl want utility vehicles, ppl want the option of just going and buying something no matter the size and be comfortable driving it back home. once u drive a bigger vehicle u cant go back unless u move somewhere where the streets and parking are tiny

Ticks me off that Greenpeace and other extremists are knocking Toyota for updating tbe Hybrid Prius instead of producing another pure electric at $60,00 to $150,000 for the rich HH third play car.

If Chevy had continued making the Volt, this is what it would have looked like if there had been a 3rd gen. This is literally an iteration of the 2nd gen Volt.

It’s not even the best looking car in its segment let alone the best looking car on Nissan’s roster….again it’s an improvement over the last model, but they have a very very very long way to go.

Looks really nice. Too bad it requires Premium Gas.

    • Nickie McNichols

      November 28, 2022 at 10:22 pm

That was a concern of mine. This is just a prototype.

    • snaredude56

      November 29, 2022 at 1:18 am

@Nickie McNichols Most likely it’s what’s called a manufacturing validation prototype. That means it has gone through all of the prototyping stages and is at the final design that will be manufactured. It’s the final design, it just wasn’t built on the assembly line in the factory. They are touting the HP, 0 to 60 times and mileage. They wouldn’t be advertising that if that was not what they are planning on delivering. No difference for the premium fuel requirement. So in other words, you should count on the ’23 Prius requiring Premium. They obviously know its not going to be popular or else they would have stated it out loud rather than printing it on the bottom of the screen for a few seconds.
