Thanks so much for watching! A lot of people in the comments have mentioned the iMessage issue is an “American” problem, since most people outside the US use WhatsApp. I used WhatsApp a lot to communicate with friends, but it’s not as common here, so being able to use iMessage has been a lot more seamless.

Also, a lot of you are calling my friends bullies, but looking at some of these comments, feels like the pot calling the kettle black! Haha

Good point about the pot and kettle 😁 though I think some of it is people being mad in your behalf. Probably because it resonates for so many of us.

      November 3, 2022 at 5:20 pm

LOL! I was just about to write the exact same message LOL Yes this is an American problem! I have an iPhone and I rarely if ever use iMessage and have never understood what all the fuss is about ;-P

I feel like every time someone talks about why they prefer an iPhone, 90% of comments are either “This is a silly American problem, we superior Europeans use WhatsApp”, or “Ugh iSheep are the worst people ever, imagine not using an HTC One M7 in 2022”. It’s frustrating because even when people have valid reasons to switch (like the ones you outlined in this video, a lot of them are part of why I’m trying an iPhone 12 Pro out), it just descends into tribalism when at the end of the day, the only bad guy here is Apple with their artificial limitations.

I’m glad you’re liking the 14 tho! Coming from an S10 is a pretty big jump, hope you get a lot of use out of it. Apple’s software support game has always been on point 👀

How does Just mentioning the obvious (your friends being the worst kind) make someone a bully? You need better friends for sure or should I say ‘real’ friends.

    • Pogs Manalili

      November 4, 2022 at 12:02 am

“Get hate from people with iPhones when I take photos (with my Samsung)”, “Blamed (so many times) for turning the groupchat green”, “Left out of groupchats for those reasons…”,”It feels like I’m in sort of an exclusive club…”,”It’s exhausting to defend myself about the quality of my phone…” okay maybe your friends are not bullies, but your environment sure did pressure you to make the switch. Based on your statements, not being able to send hi quality images from iPhone to Android and vice versa was just a small part of your decision to switch… I just want you to know that not all iPhone users are like the iPhone users/friends around you…😅 Most iPhone users are friends/family members who just happen to use an iPhone…

    • Gokul Balu

      November 4, 2022 at 5:17 am

I don’t support the hate and you have every right to use whatever feels best and trust me I use an android phone and an iPad so I am locked into both but the reason presented here is not valid enough in my opinion. It would have been better if you presented it better as to why you wanted to shift platforms in terms of a review/user experience stand point and that would have been accepted better. Here it comes off that your friends are shallow which maybe they are not but the presentation does very little justice to prove otherwise.

And yeah come on CNET knew that this video and it’s title will be click bait they could have done better I don’t blame you but rather CNET for throwing you under the bus for views.

    • Sumeet Kumar

      November 4, 2022 at 5:49 am

You yourself say that you are not a bully because you are not going to follow the behavior of your friends and break the cycle. So they are bullies even according to you. And then you are mentioning that pot calling kettle black. Your whole video makes it look like the bullying has pushed you to make the switch. Like way too strongly. Like I didn’t catch any improvements over android as an android user that would make me want to explore iphones. Weird you would frame the video like this if this wasn’t your impression. And since you are replying to comments and even defending your stance here, get ready to get a lot of salt over this video. All the best

@briar i don’t think any Android user has ever said imagine not using so and so Android phone, this usually comes from iphone users who’s phone is years old and has been slowed down by apple on purpose to make them buy a new iphone while they’re talking about a flagship Android which they had to pay half the price to get the same features because blue bubbles cool green bubbles bad, i know there might be legitimate reasons but the reasons usually are iMessage, facetime and airdrop all which are basic features that you can get anywhere else instead of mentioning actual advantages like good privacy, good soc performance, optimization and such because of their superiority complex

    • A Rich

      November 4, 2022 at 11:19 am

@Abrar Al-Heeti I too fought for years not to get an iPhone, until one day Sprint (God rest their soul), had a promotion. I had the Note 3 and loved it and all of the features, but I decided to try the iPhone because Sprint said if I added an extra line that they would pay for it for up to 18 months. So, I tried it. This was in the fall of 2018. When I got my iPhone, it was the red 8+ with the black face. I knew absolutely nothing about iPhone culture or why this was a big deal. But the next day when I went to work and some of my students do my phone they went crazy and began telling me I had the dopest phone out..LoL. They began to take pictures with my phone and now I was one of the cool teachers..LoL😂! But the one reaction that I will never forget is, I text one of my friends to let him know that I had an iPhone and all he said was, “You’re Welcome!” There are some things about Samsung that I miss, but not enough for me to ever consider going back. I love my iPhone and am now apart of the bullying community against android users..😂😂😂😂😂! Thanks for sharing! Peace

I switched to Apple from Samsung years ago and I started to love it cuz of simplicity, quality and performance of the products but 2 weeks ago I switched back to Samsung and Windows cuz I remember my level of productivity was high due to their functions and I’ve always used Windows since I was almost 5 yo which I know it like the palm of my hand, other reason I switched back to them from Apple is cuz Apple is lacking of real functions to make someone have a good level of productivity with their devices due to limitations of their OS, I have a Surface Laptop Studio that replaced my iPad and MacBook together and my productivity goes up when I work on my projects, the Home Screen of the iPhones is messy and I can’t manage my widgets completely. Oh, and to not forget the way they laugh at their customers in creating some nonsense products which is why people say they create problems to sell solutions

I have an iPhone (have so since the original in 2007 and upgrade to the newest one every year) and for the last 7 years my work phone has been a Samsung (upgraded every 2 years) and currently have an s21.

I do find the iPhone has a much more refined experience through and through.

From web browsing to messaging to taking photos and sending files it’s pretty seamless across iPhones and to other apple devices.

Android on the other hand is super fragmented. You have different UI’s, different blue features, loaded with what I would call beta testing features. It feels like an evolving experiment that never gets quite finished. Forever in beta test mode. Although you can get some world class hard ware with android, unless you get a pixel, the manufacture overlay themes that are started just don’t feel polished.

The fact that this “green bubble vs blue bubble” is still going on and makes people go over the ‘dark side’ of Apple is getting old and annoying. AND also the fact that their iMessage still has no RCS is also still pathetic in 2022/2023. You’re points are very true and valid.

    November 3, 2022 at 11:14 pm

I recently changed from S21 Ultra to an iPhone 14 Pro Max. My reason for changing was better texting experience with iPhone users and Face Time. It is nice to not have to hear “you don’t have an iPhone”. I must say I do regret my decision. I’ve had trouble with maps and even google map and people hearing me while using Car Play, closing out windows or apps (touchscreen), not being able to customize certain things on my phone. In my opinion there are a handful of things that are good but for the most part, to me iPhone is behind in technology and a very simple platform to be called a smart phones. The hype about the iPhone in the USA is the marketing and not the phone. Most iPhone users have never owned a good android or perhaps any android.

  34. Md. Fahim Ferdoush

    November 3, 2022 at 11:33 pm

I am an Android user, and I’m going to stick to that. If a friend/circle of friends going to leave you just because you’re using another device except Apple; you don’t need to change the phone, you need to change the friend/circle.

Android has so much flexibility, features, pros, that Apple is following a year/some years later.

Apple produces great products, no doubt. I’m a fan of iPods. But, I prefer Android OS over iOS, and laptops over MacBook.

    > getting 20 or 30 close friends and family to all switch to WhatsApp or Signal or whatever is not as easy as it sounds. Plus expect to do free tech support if you start this
    > they already used other Apple products

My daily driver is iPhone, but I don’t hold a grudge against android users. It’s what’s best for you as your daily driver. I’ll admit customization is one thing that always will stay with android devices. I do wish iOS did allow more flexibility.
Kinda wish all devices had one messaging services that work with no matter device you have. We’re it doesn’t matter what you have people can enjoy.

Used galaxy since 2013 but switched to apple 2019 and never going back. The ecosystem makes my work and life easier. The privacy stuff and the ads I used to have on android phone is really a pain back then. Apps that weigh down on my phone memory etc and I cannot seem to figure out what went wrong. With apple, my iPhone 6 still works like a dream and even my iPod 4th gen can still function. I’m now using iPhone 13pro max upgrading is still not a need but Because apple’s system is straightforward, I need that in my life!

I definitely get where you’re coming from Abrar, when you say that it’s 100% Apples fault for not making iMessage available for Android. That is true, it’s they’re app, so it’s up to them to make it available. BUT, I disagree with the statement that it is not Android issue.

For far too long Android phones have relied on SMS (Short Message Service), old technology, as it’s primary means of sending “text” messages. For too long Google jumped around developing and releasing “this messaging app” then “that messaging app.” None of which became a replacement for Google’s or Samsung’s stock messaging apps. While Google was all over the place, Apple, being in total control of the end user experience developes iMessage, along with other features that creates an Apple to Apple experience that people don’t want to step away from once they taste it. And us Android users, of which I am one, got left behind using SMS, hoping to communicate on Whatsapp when it came to receiving media.

Apple didn’t ditch SMS though, thus the green bubble for us Android users. iMessage functions more like an IM (Instant Messager), it’s “Over The Top” or OTT. Not needing cellular service to pass messages. Instead just needing an internet connection. Technically messages sent through iMessage aren’t text messages. Where’s as with SMS you can only send text limited to 160 charaters (MMS is used for media for devices that rely on SMS).

When you think about it, the way iMessage functions wasn’t new at the time. Blackberry offered a very similar experience and functionality with BBM (Blackberry Messager). Yes cameras have changed over the years and mobile photo resolution is larger. The point is that BBM and iMessage both tied the user to a specific device and gave them an experience that they could only have with that device. The Crackberry was born and reigned before the iPhone and iMessage.

Being all over the place when it came to messaging, along with having so many hands in the pot kept Android from having a chance at becoming a or the leader when it came to messaging. Now Google is playing catch-up by pushing RCS (Rich Communication Service) which of Apple adopts would make it so that we can send and receive higher res photo and video between Android and iPhone. But what reason does Apple have at the moment to adopt RCS, none. Nothing last forever, so in the future I believe it’ll change. For now there’s too much money being made in the smartphone market. Apple, Google, Samsung all want to be king of the hill, so this one does that, that does this all trying to make a sale on a device while us users are caught in the middle missing on an experience that the tech exists to create but is blocked by the money makers.

Iphone is good until you need to charge it. It charges so slow compared to today’s Android phones. Also I can’t get over iOS archaic notification shade and settings.

iPhone 14 ProMax + Apple Watch Ultra owner here. Been Apple loyal since 2009 (my first official iPhone). At first, the features and gimmicks or Androids kinda got to me, but that seemlessness was just to hard to break from, not to mention iTunes. I’ve had iPods before this, and may be what made me loyal. But as the feature set improved, it made switching a non-issue. The features are almost always a polished, necessary one that users would actually need/want. And the crowning achievement: Continuity. It’s what makes Apple devices what they are.

As long as Apple keeps up this streak of innovation and success, I’ll be right with them.

I am a Samsung Galaxy fan, so I am biased to be honest. Apple makes wonderful products and if I had started with a Apple iPhone versus a Samsung Galaxy smartphone I would think I could have been an Apple buyer. But in my case, I started with the Samsung Galaxy S8+ which was at the time the best smartphone experience I had to date. At that time, I compared Apple iPhone and to be honest, the iPhone always seems limited on features compared to Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Fast forward to today and Samsung Galaxy smartphones are not only superior in design, but their various form factors, features are simply to many to count over Apple iPhones.

For me some of my friends and family have Apple iPhones and some have Samsung smartphones. I have never experienced any lack of inclusion with either set from Apple or Samsung friends and family in sharing information. I am not sure how I would feel about that if what you experienced happened to me. I do understand the feeling, like you’re in a club with Apple and in many ways, you are in my opinion. And I do not think that it is a terrible thing to feel that way about your personal technology.

I cannot speak for Apple, but in the case of Samsung, I really think it has a superior ecosystem when it comes to integrating their family of products. I am sure I will hear from Apple fans who will help me see if my opinion may be incorrect. But in my way of thinking, Apple’s ecosystem is limited, simply because of their limited offering of products. I like Samsung’s approach to viewing an ecosystem in much broader terms. From personal technology, to TV, Smart Monitor, SmartThings for vacuum cleaner, dishwasher, washer/dryer, Audio Systems, lights and the list is endless.

When I needed to purchase a new laptop computer to replace my Microsoft Surface Pro. I reviewed the Apple MacBook Air M1 and though I thought it was a solid laptop, it was limited in features that I have come to think of as standard when looking for a new thin and light laptop. For example, on my 7-year-old Microsoft Surface Pro, I have a touch screen, Pen support and the ability to convert to a table when required. Apple offers nothing with touch on their MacBook series, only on their iPads. After reviewing several brands of thin and light laptops, I selected the new Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 15 inch. I then experienced the Samsung ecosystem and began to appreciate the convenience Apple customers find so attractive. But with Samsung, it is a broader, richer experience that extends beyond the smartphone, tablet, laptop, watch and earbud experience. I have that as well with Samsung, but Samsung expands the experience with the Samsung Smart TV, Smart Monitor, SmartThings, Microsoft, Intel and Google services as well.

For me I think I would have to give up so many features I use every day in order to switch to Apple. But like all things, that can change in the future. I will keep watching to see what Apple brings to the market.

Most countries use Viber, Line, Watzapp, Facebook messanger, and Kakaotalk to communicate with each other and send files. However, North America uses texting. I don’t text. I use an app instead most of thr time so I dont care apple to oranges

The fact that there are functioning humans on this planet that give a crap about the phone other people use is extremely concerning. I’m pretty sure we could’ve stopped climate change or ended racism, but instead yall were arguing android vs iphone.
