Why? It’s just a Ted X. They are always less curated than regular Ted talks. This one, It’s cinema history basically.

      Drivel. Literal. By definition.

    • @brockwidmann9210

      October 16, 2024 at 12:26 pm

Is Literary history or cinema history drivel? Liberal arts? I don’t see it much different from a video essay on a movie trend.

    Surpringly engaging.

mirrors were coated with silver back in the days, and what is most effective against vampires? silver.

This was almost an epigraph in my vampire novel:

Q: Why can’t vampires see themselves in mirrors?
    A: Because they don’t exist.

It’s not a politician that fits in that picture, it’s “the politician”.

The only lives that truly matter are those who respect the lives of others.

  15. @DreadPirateRobrt

    October 16, 2024 at 11:22 am

I thought this was going to be like 15 seconds long. “Why don’t vampires cast a reflection? Because, they don’t exist!”

  16. @SuperRetroid

    October 16, 2024 at 11:23 am

The reflection in mirrors was supposed to be the spirit world or souls, that’s why there’s the myth about breaking a mirror (harming your soul) or scrying, which is staring into a mirror to ‘see’ that world.

Hence: Vampires don’t have reflections in mirrors because they don’t have souls.

    • @malachiteofmethuselah9713

      October 16, 2024 at 3:38 pm

Mirrors were absurdly expensive, and the servants were fed superstitions to keep their grubby hands off of difficult to replace objects. Irrational fears work far better than beatings to prevent theft of damages.

  17. @super_terram

    October 16, 2024 at 11:49 am

I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

  25. @protocol6

    October 16, 2024 at 8:42 pm

Huh, I always though it had to do with silver’s association with magic.

  26. @AceKiller9000

    October 16, 2024 at 11:18 pm

Surely the video title is incorrect. It should read:
    Why can’t Vampires cast reflections?

    • @claytonkennedy4187

      October 20, 2024 at 3:22 pm

I think it’s a clever nuance choice: the “don’t” implies the explanation of outside agency (writers) vs exploring the self-agency of the vampire itself.

Jesus christ, what have they come to. Vampires? This used to be the place that would teach you that if you brush your teeth with your non dominant hand twice a week, you’d probably end up being ceo before next christmas.
