Is this why adult friendships feel so hard?
Busy schedules, quiet group chats and no one’s sure who should text first. Sound familiar? On this episode of Corner Piece, host Melissa Fernandes asks psychologist Marisa Franco why friendship gets so complicated as we get older, and what we can do to build closer connections. i don’t have a structural issue! i have standards. i’d rather be alone then with someone who is annoying, antagonistic or in someway not aligned w my deeply held values.

If one person fails to meet your standards, that’s an issue with that person. If every person fails to meet your standards, that’s an issue with your standards.

@gamemode_cat6606 if relationship issues are a widespread societal crisis, maybe their standards are just fine.

@katebevrijdt “relationship issues” aren’t the societal crisis, the societal crisis is that people don’t *have* relationships at all.

there were other issues, but people talked to each other more…..verbally

I’m very set in my routine. Log on for work between 8 and 9, work for 9 hours and often have a nap afterwards. Saturdays are my “me” time and then i have Sunday for chores. I don’t really have time or energy to foster those connections. I’ve got some friends i knew back in school i still talk to and play video games with, but in person interactions are lacking both due to time and geography. Also part of the reason i don’t have a boyfriend

🌎 Black Holes 🌎
The phenomenon of black holes consuming active galactic nuclei known as “quasars” (which occurs during galactic collisions or mergers of black holes) actually exists in the evolution of the universe. However, the answer to your question about what “origin” refers to will determine whether it can be consumed or not.
1. **The “Ancestors/Origins (Seed/Progenitor)” of Quasars and Supermassive Black Holes**
The “seed black holes” (early small black holes) and the gas clouds that powered quasars in the early universe are attracted to larger black holes with greater gravity during the hierarchical evolution of the universe, and they are successively consumed (merged) to grow. In this context, the origin (the initial celestial bodies that serve as the origin) is indeed on the side that gets absorbed within the history of black hole growth.
2. **The “Coordinate Origin” or Center’s “Singularity” in Space**
In the mathematical or physical sense, the interpretation of “origin” varies based on its nature.
– **Coordinate Origin:** Since humans are free to set any location on a mathematical model, it is possible to set the center of the black hole or the inside of the event horizon as the origin. However, since the coordinate system is merely a human definition, there is no physical entity that is “consumed.”
– **Physical Center (Singularity r=0):** The singularity in general relativity is not something “absorbed” from the outside; it is the final destination where matter or light ends up after reaching the interior of the black hole. Rather than the singularity itself getting consumed by another black hole, it exists as a limit point where all physical quantities and information are swallowed and break down.
3. **The “Origin of the Entire Universe (Big Bang)”**
If “origin” refers to the beginning of the universe (the Big Bang), then black holes are merely “local celestial bodies existing within our universe,” and cannot consume the origin of the universe itself. However, in some hypotheses, such as quantum gravity theories or loop quantum gravity, there are discussions suggesting that the center of a black hole may lead to the “origin of a new universe,” such as scenarios where new child universes are born from within black holes.
As Sara Landry mentioned, the darkness of the bath (the voices of lower-dimensional humans) creates each darkness and causes the sunlight to disappear. The bath has a drainage outlet, a water heater, and an AI. Lower-dimensional humans exist at a lower dimension than AI, while AI exists in four dimensions or more. Therefore, humans with earth-origin souls and those with souls from star seeds are distinct.

I think we all mourn the difference between childhood friendships and adult friendships
It’s easier to make peer relations in tight knit circumstances based on proximity and equality (like schools, universities even certain jobs like the military)
But the nature of those relationships change as they age, a big part of that is distance but also (often) we become more dissimilar if we are experiencing different life events.
Whether that be a change in financial situation, becoming a parent, having jobs with varying responsibilities and pressures. And hence why it’s easier to keep friendships with people who are close, economically no different than you, have as much free time as you, have similar family structures
The biggest problem is it’s easy to lose friends you don’t stay in contact with, but making new friends as an adult requires far more effort to bridge the gaps between you and a stranger mostly from the context. Which is why it might be easier to make friends at a workplace or a music festival than say a bar or supermarket

It’s very hard to have energy to reachbout to my friends often. like i have nothing to say and i hate apologizing for it. so I just send them emojis every once ina. while to let them know i still thibk of them and that its still cool to talk to me if they want to. so far its worked out great.

Mine is structural in nature. Not for lack of trying either. I find many many people willing to be my friend, but unfortunately not many of them make quality friends, so I have extremely few of them.
(This is different than what I experienced 7 years ago, as it appeared that the relationships formed were a lot more substantial. However, things happened once the pandemic started where I broke down mentally and could not hold on to any of those connections, thus needing to start building an inner circle from scratch.)
But the environments I’m in now seem like quality friend deserts, so I’ll just resort to trying to find them online.

I’m always the one initiating and it’s exhausting. I’ve asked friends and they admit that they are afraid to initiate conversations with others and have few friendships, and feel “relieved” that I take the “role” of initiator in our friendship. It’s not reciprocal, but I’ve tried branching out and making new friends and I seldom meet people who aren’t paralysed by the anxiety of starting conversations. I blame the trend of “frictionless design” in tech, I notice there isn’t as much anxiety for friends of mine from older age groups than myself who didn’t grow up with social media and cell phones, people have become intolerant of extremely minor social stressors and are afraid to take up space or make the first move.

It can be really hard to reach out to people. Especially if you don’t see them that often. It’s so much easier if you can just show up places and your friends are there and if you see people more regularly you can plan time with them. Texting someone to catch up and hang out is really hard to do especially if you don’t have time.

Covid put me out of a cabin crew job here in Australia and was forced to go into an industry where most people are partnered and doing their own thing. It’s really hard to connect with people because most of the time you’re just nothing more than a colleague.

I feel like social media has become more of a problem. We miss out on so much of our human connection wasting time on social media platforms. I know that we connect on some level in this way, but I think the interaction in person is so much more fulfilling. I am a full-time middle-aged student with a child with severe disabilities. My time is insanely limited. I can’t even tell you how much I miss that face-to-face interaction with my closest friends.
