For AAA game development on Console and PC unity is rarely considered, now for Mobile game dev Unity is a better choice. Unity also has expensive multi-tiered subscriptions.
Godot is not designed for AAA game development.
Unigine from Mother Russia isn’t exactly popular.
Cryengine ironically is quite outdated feature wise.
Lumberyard is just an older version of Cryengine.
So one can see why UE is one of the most popular subscription/ cost free game engines out there, used in AAA and indie game dev alike.

Epic is dead wrong, they knew the rules going into this. Each company says standards no different than purchasing a game license, when you buy a game it’s not saying that you’re buying the game you’re purchasing a license to play that game. Apple created the App Store, epic has the ability to sell their software and subscriptions online. Apple pay is to maintain the service that they created an epic wants to be able to dictate how much they should charge for a service that they did not create. If you don’t want to do business with Apple then take your game somewhere else, create your own store but you can’t come in to someone else’s house and start making the rules. It’s not an Apple or Google tax it’s simply the cost of doing business, but people like to be so dramatic when they talk about companies who are really good at handling business. Just because you didn’t think of it doesn’t make the people who did wrong. It’s called capitalism but because you can’t figure out a way to circumvent it you want to call it a monopoly. Grow up
