What are the planets outside our solar system like? Astrophysicist and TED Fellow Jessie Christiansen has helped find thousands of them (and counting), and the variety is more wonderful and wild than you might imagine. She shares details on the trends emerging from the data — including the intriguing possibility of “super-Earths” — and what the discovery of exoplanets means for existential questions like: Where do we come from, and how did we get here?

Super interesting talk on exo-planets! It’s definitely an important topic. It’s cool to think she could be the “photographer” for the first real picture of an earth-like exo planet. 📷

You say we don’t know where we came from and how we got here. Yet it seems you’re trying to find what is not yet there, so you can tell us where it came from, (how it got there).
That sounds to me like you’re looking for a consistent design without acknowledging there is a designer?
I find it amazing that we can pursue theory as fact while we treat facts as theory.

Purpose is evidence of a plan that requires responsibility and that, in turn, requires ACCOUNTABILITY, which we seem to be ultimately in denial of.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to “find” a perpetrator unless we acknowledge a crime has been committed.

Hope you have the interest to “find” what I’m saying worth pursuing.

      January 12, 2023 at 5:06 pm

And here I thought that the title exactly captured the essence of what I watched and I found it interesting on top of that.
Isn’t it strange how we could watch exactly the same thing and come away with such divergent opinions?

I think this delusional girl is wasting a lot of money!! Mankind has actually never seen a planet outside of our solar system, they think they have detected some indirectly, but i call BS!

    • Andy Cordy

      January 14, 2023 at 6:41 am

@Malik Chrom That “girl” is a highly educated and experienced scientist. It is statistically impossible, to all intents and purposes, in a galaxy with trillions of star systems, that no other star should have planets. Ok. You are right, we have not yet “seen” one but we have seen where they are and in some cases the gravitational impact they have on their parent star. To “see” deep space requires more than our eyes. Without telescopes, we see hardly anything at all but wish to see more.
I would accept that the argument that scientific endeavour is a waste of money to some people and that to some there is no benefit to knowing that the skies are populated by trillions of planets, some of which will be habitable.
Far more money and effort is wasted in the pursuit of superstition and myth.

It’s incredible. 5000 in our limited view suggests they’re everywhere. It’s absurd that life developed here as it did if there’s no natural law that pushes it to happen.

a question pop up in my mind when I finished this video. If it’s really exist a planet that is similar to earth which support life of a creature, wouldn’t it be mean that planet will already has life on it just like the earth have humans, animals, and plants? If the statement of some religion believe we are the only living creature in the world, doesn’t that mean that there will be no planet similar to earth? hahaha

    • Sam NotLoading

      January 16, 2023 at 11:29 am

We have found similar planets already. We do not know if life is out there but it’s an extremely low chance to have such developed life as we have on earth for all i know, so it’s unlikely. So far no earthlike planet is possible to travel to though, they are all to far away.
