Everyone is unique but not everyone is special. Everyone isn’t everything. Which is obvious, but not. Be reasonably curious..

She’s white and pretty. The world accepts her as not simply “belonging” but one of it’s examples of greatness. She doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about. No lived experience otherwise. This is privilege on it’s highest level right here. I’d like to inform her that what makes ME different, most certainly has NOT been what’s made me successful! It’s something I have to work damn harder than her to overcome to be successful! She has to prove herself to NO ONE. She’s accepted on face value. What makes me different is that I’m seen as a “conquered, owned, subhuman, brown Indian, sav.age” who’s probably a worthless drunk, violent, welfare bum and an idiot.

“You are not special, you’re not a beautiful or unique snowflake, You’re the same decaying organic matter as everything else.”

    – Unknown source

The sooner you accept this, the more liberated you’ll become. In reality we’re more similar than we realize.

    There is an old saying.
When everyone is special no one is.
Maybe rather than railing against the idea of normal by making everyone special we just don’t make fun of or marginalize people from liking things that are different from what we like just because it is different.
Pushing so hard against an error that you make the reverse error is not better.

Of course, as if it were as simple and easy as that ¬¬

  21. An Adverb

    December 30, 2022 at 10:42 pm

So… Everyone’s a beautiful snowflake just because they are? We need to celebrate every snowflake for the same reason? This is the thinking that continues to degrade Western society. You want to be recognized for your uniqueness? You want to be accepted and celebrated? You want to upgrade your status from “weirdo” to “eccentric?” Then DO something. Only our actions define us. The world doesn’t owe anyone anything.

Side note: what’s so comically disturbing about this speaker is not just the fact that there is literally nothing about her that says “outlier” or “unique.” It’s the over-the-top intensity with which she’s delivering a very contrived, simplistic and tired platitude… like she’s desperately trying to convince herself that what she’s saying is at all insightful or unique.

NOT BEING SPECIAL IS NOT BAD A THING. some people truly appreciate being ordinary. also no you are NOT unique. your imperfections may make you different to some extent but it doesn’t make you special. and if everyone is special nobody is special.

Is she completely out of her mind? Celebrate what makes us different? I am trying to be, and want to be, like everyone else, but she is saying the very opposite of what I am trying to be. It is not fun of being different. Trust me on that. I want to be a normal person. She needs to go to a psych hospital for that toxic message.

  35. Stan Petta

    December 31, 2022 at 5:14 pm

Speakers choice of words doesn’t match the message. Unique has a positive connotation, where as ‘different’ and certainly ‘weird’ come with baggage. These exclusionary words suggests an arrogance from the source.

I’m sorry to tell you…. but your unique features have definitely made people treat you with admiration you didn’t deserve…. it almost makes me sick to see people like her stand up there and tell people they’re inherently worthless, so they should strive to be accepted while she has gotten by on cheap looks and words her entire life…its like a rich person saying “everybody is born poor, so you should work your life away trying to be rich” even though they inherited everything they have…js

People tell themselves that they are different and special, and that they must work hard because of this, and that when they ‘win’ in spite of these circumstances, they are ‘extra’ special, feeding their Egos.

This is the lie humans tell themselves to avoid suicide and dispare.

Humanity has not yet learned/learnt better lies.

What an interesting speech about being different from a woman/man that is very different from everyone.

There are more differences between us as individuals than there are between species.

Although there’s something to be said for wanting to be a part of the crowd. As they said in the Life Of Brian:
    Brian – “You’re all different!”
The Crowd – “Yes, we ARE all different!”
Man in crowd – “I’m not”

I don’t mean to be rude, but why are so many people in the comments so depressing?
No, I don’t think really anybody in the world is special than any other person, but it doesn’t mean that their isn’t a purpose to our lives. I believe it’s a trap for one to believe that just because you’re not good at anything (I.e. job, sports, fame, etc.) means that you don’t matter. I have often fallen into the loop of putting so much of my identity on my athleticism, but it’s something that just doesn’t matter as much than the fact that you even exist. If there’s anything to celebrate, celebrate that you’re alive, which is one of the most unlikely odds to be beaten.
