Nigel Topping has a cool job: he’s the UK’s High Level Climate Action Champion for COP26, the UN’s climate change conference taking place in 2021. In this wide-ranging interview, Topping discusses his work with scientists, businesses and cities to drive action on climate change and get the world committed to net zero emissions by 2050. He also explains why he thinks the COVID-19 pandemic could accelerate the transition to a green economy, creating jobs that will last and building a cleaner world for us all. (This virtual conversation, hosted by TED global curator Bruno Giussani and current affairs curator Whitney Pennington Rodgers, was recorded May 26, 2020.)

The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). All the country must be related together, and helping each other to run their country, and this will be possible.

These people actually think we can end Typhoons? That the climate can be equitable? That’s when I realized this whole conversation is made in a vacuum of unicorns & rainbows. This is all bullshit. There have always been typhoons & glaciers melting & freezing. All if these happened before coal & gas use. Stop littering & pouring crap in the water. There is no static climate. These folks have all bought into the quackery.

I love these people who speak about the economy as if it’s just something that can be steered with a Twist of a steering wheel, as if there would be no consequences for switching to demonstrably more expensive methods of producing energy and food, as if there would be no knock-on effects or unintended consequences that will affect people other than the academic Intelligentsia bubble they live in. You want to make the economy green, make green more profitable, make battery electric vehicles cheaper than their gasoline-electric counterparts at the sticker level not just an abstract true cost of ownership calculation. build solar panels and battery packs that are so ridiculously cheap you could install them in your home and have them pay for themselves in less than 10 years. create drones that can take over crop dusting oh, drop the cost of greenhouse operations down lower than the cost of basic soil operations. Stop pushing this nonsense of people buying cars that cost $35,000 when people can barely afford a $14,000 car,

The end goal of all the climate change rhetoric has always been to co-opt the economies of the world. Now they bare their fangs.

The number of people commenting here *convinced* that their Facebook research has rendered the truth while the world’s scientists are all conspiring to lie about this is astounding. You people need to get out of the way.

Many of the most talented and accomplished climate scientists don’t agree. As a result they have had their characters slandered and careers ended by fanatical climate bigots. Are you suggesting allowing topical discussion by experts is wrong and that they too should ‘get out of the way’? The latest IPCC report says that there is no increase in frequency or intensity of floods, wildfires, hurricanes, or other weather events. So is this man lying or is the IPCC. Check your cjw privilege!

This opportunity is one which must be taken with both hands we must push for a greener economy and for some changes that have been made to be made permanent for example more cycle lanes helping to reduce reliance on cars.

We need to STOP MINDLESS ECONOMY, NOT CHANGE “THE NAME” OF THE ECONOMY! There is no use in calling the economy “green” if we keep DOIMG THE SAME JUST UNDER ANOTHER NAME! There is no use of having “organic” food when it is still being SOLD! There is no use of calling “green energy” if it is still being SOLD FOR PROFIT SOMETHING IT IS GIVEN!!!

In a part of the United States with more than 17,000 years of human history, cultural preservation advocate Tracie Revis is working to turn the Ocmulgee Mounds into Georgia’s first national park and preserve. This park would be co-managed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, bringing the tribal voice back to an area they were forcibly removed from 200 years ago. Revis explores the complex feelings of caring for this land and shows how it’s fostering healing in return.
