Increased competition will have the same effect on VR as every other industry: more competition = exponential innovation

Same thing we’re seeing with the AI advancements

Basically zero reason to get this instead of the Quest Pro

VR set should be like astronauts helmets with dome like concave screen or like a mask.battery should be in a backpack or maybe belt mounted holster definitely not on a head

You need two screens for the 3d effect, one for each eye. You cant just slap one big screen in front of your face to get a VR experience. And the battery is also used to balance out the headset.

1:40 whats the point of not having a battery? Can it be powered by the usb c port?

I have a large team that creates content for these types of HMDs – and THANK YOU for providing great insights and unbiased opinions. It’s nice to see a review that isn’t all rainbows and unicorns. You have hit on all of the key issues with the HTC – other than the SDK issues. Just because it’s the same chip – it does run custom apps about 25-30% slower than the Quest Pro – as the software team at Meta is a few years ahead on optimization vs. where the HTC team is at.

I’m not sure why Vive doesn’t have the $200 battery as an option since its not necessary and sell this for $899.99……..

This is really cool. I was just wondering if I could bring my quest headset on to a place to use.

❤ Can you side load and run the Quest version of VR chat on standalone “HTC XR” 🎉

I do like its ability to break down all of it. It has quite a streamlined design. I look forward to the day when headsets are the norm. I still wow ppl with the Quest 2 who haven’t tried it, 2 of which bought their own for the fun factor! Thanks for the review & being a fellow VR enthusiast with glasses 🤓🥽🎮

If apple is building VR, it would not be VR but AR. With VR you can’t do much, in AR you can. Apple doesn’t have software or games that would be interesing to play or use it over meta quest. And even if they are able to, that is not inovation. Only option to be inovate is to offer good AR.

downsizing is the biggest advance for VR since its inception. better specs are great, but size and weight is the key to success

  14. Conservative Juggalo Podcast

    April 19, 2023 at 4:18 pm

I see the replacement battery is $200, I’m hoping they just leave the battery out the initial purchase and sell for $900, or even come down to a $799 price tag I would definitely think about a purchase at that point

The graphics need to get more realistic like Resident Evil 7. Being inside video games isn’t that great when the graphics aren’t that good, (I’m lookin at you Doom VFR) but when you’re inside Resident Evil Biohazard it’s like you’re really there. I understand that’s up to the qualifications of the developer but if they want more mainstream base they need to step it up, amd come down on this price range yikes. Playstation also needs to step up their apps and have VR Chat compatibility or make their own cuz limiting to just video games is a huge limitation

Would’ve been sold on the Vive XR if only they could scale it down to a more affordable price. Sucks that the tech we have today doesn’t allow for it

+A to the CNET VR media team! Every video is awesome to watch and gets me excited about the future. Scott Stein always talks in a very calm/relaxed voice and knows what he is talking about. These 7 minute videos are easy to watch and filled with great content. Keep it up please!

The Quest 2 using immersed is pretty neat I am hoping for a full touch typing plus hand tracking to work in a standing position. This and the Qpro look like they can make this experience happen

you forgot to mention that the XR elite actually has the depth sensor that was removed from the quest pro at the last minute, so the XR elite has better augmented reality integration.

I love how this is similar to the Nreal Air but way more expensive. The Nreal Air is $300 compared to others, which is over a thousand dollars.

Remembering how people used to do lan parties by lugging their gigantic computers to friends’ places… Now we’re upset we have to carry a few things that fit into a bag, half the size of a basketball.

VR was supposed to be this revolutionary technology to change the world in 2012-2014. 10 years and many $B later it is still trying to find product/market fit, refine cumbersome equipment, do something with difficult-to-connect/operate devices, high prices and low adoption. A tale of vision meeting execution…

This thing is partially finished. Well at least it looks like a prototype. If this is the final product I’d never spend 1000 USD on this. Let’s wait what Apple comes up with. I’d rather pay 2000 USD on something that works and finished then 1000 USD on a cheap plastic toy like this.

  33. StormVR

    April 20, 2023 at 7:57 am

Why does everyone want “glasses”. I wear glasses and can see outside the rim. That’s would be annoying in VR. I want FOV and don’t give a flying truck how good my VR headsets look.

Bought this and returned it. Software is not there yet. Kept the Meta Quest Pro, and still have my Vive Pro. This one felt great though. But honestly when you take the controller and the battery it is the same size as the Quest Pro in a bag.

The future is a rokid max form factor and ideally the battery and chip in a AR remote form factor that you put in your pocket but 100+ fov and VR.

I see almost no real advantage the XR has over Quest Pro. The processor on the XR is the Snapdragon XR2 while the Quest Pro uses the XR2+. Most personal reviews of the XR Elite have been lackluster or not so good compared to the QPro. Also, I do some and teach VR and game development and I have seen nothing about the reliability of the XR Elite for that purpose. Anyone? The Quest 2 and Pro just work. One thing I do like is the form size. Hope the reliability of the Quests is integrated into something much smaller. I suspect that Apple may be doing that but at a premium price I won’t and do not need to pay for.

its geting closer it need to battery build in to frame to make it smaller + better a.i for hand control + 5g or faster wifi connection

Good video. However, I don’t know if it is just me but I care sooo very little about whether or not it is small enough to carry around with me in a bag? This review spent too much time going over the portability. Personally I feel like controllers that are too small are difficult to hold, it messes up your grip a little and is uncomfortable. These controllers are fine the way they are. But then I don’t want to put them in my pocket and go on a bus downtime. I am not getting this angle in the review tbh.
