I like the idea, but if you are using 8x the energy to produce an item, you are actually hurting then environment. This is the same problem that electric cars and “The New Green Deal” have. I don’t care if your intentions are good, if your results are harmful, then you are harmful.

Agreed. It’s a proof of concept. Once they get the formula down and can create them on a larger scale then it will be self sustainable. Research and development takes a lot of money as most startups would know. They will refine the process over time and it will improve the production.

The interceptors operate autonomously so in effect they are robots operating without human intervention. There are monitors onboard so humans can monitor the process and get data on their operation. To release more plastic based product packaged in plastic into the world when we already know that we as a species still do not recycle plastic effectively and that the material itself is toxic thanks to micro-plastics permeating into food and water supply chains…

it’s not surprising that they’re going for $199 since it looks very labor intensive which is one of the reasons why recycling is such a challenge versus virgin plastic use.
