Curious what there is to hate about simulation tech?

Most of these things will end up in the dust bin of tech history.

Science cannot progress with heaps of things ending up in bins.

That’s what I thought until I chucked over some cash for Xreal ones. I’m convinced those are here to stay especially as fov improves. Pairs extremely well with pc handhelds that are extremely popular. But AR I’m not convinced yet. Essentially monitor glasses I have faith in. Not ar.

    • @FreeER

      June 17, 2025 at 3:46 am

Practically everything does though. Rare exceptions are things like levers and pulleys in engineering. But digitally? I’m not sure if there’s a single thing that isn’t more conceptual than concrete, even transistors which would have been a constant aren’t necessarily required in optical chips being researched (phase interference allows for discrete logic instead). Obviously the idea of state memory and logic in general stick around but the actual implementations… 🤷‍♀️

Tech constantly evolves, until there’s nothing left to push progress, so of course it eventually becomes outdated and thrown out.

Ive been wondering why companies haven’t tried tying rings to glasses and headsets. Glad its finally happening.

  11. @Arzalons

LOL I’m sorry but I can’t justify this as a “necessity” just a gimmicky invention for fun/entertainment

Why are you wearing a mask? Were you sanding something during the show?

Love seeing the ideas… they all seem to have their own slightly different take on certain issues, like haptic feedback in VR, or physical movement in VR. I guess they’re hoping to sell their concepts to big companies? Regardless, as consumers it’s always fun to see what possible solutions to these problems might be. I do think those haptic gloves look like they could be affordable while still offering good haptics. That’s definitely an area I’d love to see one of the big companies move with their next controllers.

  16. @Evan_Rodgers

The primary future use case for these types of glasses is serving ads.
None of this VR/AR/AI glasses crap solves any known problem. It seems like it’s intended to get people to wear advertising video screens in front of their eyeballs all day.

Google AR glasses is very promising. I would get one if it is affordable and available

Google glasses were the best of both worlds. could have been amazing if developed to today world,

these new glasses are worthless. not great for both worlds

Until VR is a complete 360 head encompassing view it will always be no more than a gimmick
