No mention of Toyota being able to manufacture at scale. Having the chemistry alone doesn’t make for a viable battery. It must be producible at scale and this is the challenge of mass producing any battery… Otherwise the cost will be astronomical…

That is one of the reasons this technology is taking as long as it is to become viable for consumer products.

The reason why they have so many patents for it is because they started researching solid state batteries back in the 90’s, way before Elon Musk had thought of Tesla and now it’s going to pay off massively. Hope Toyota makes them as reliable as their mainline cars.

Electric cars in their current state are a scam. Not better for the environment because the electricity used for them is usually made by burning coal, they contain batteries that are horrible for the environment and are guaranteed to need to be replaced (and are very expensive), and you need to charge them in the middle of a road trip. No thanks I’ll keep my gas burner.

They’ve been saying that same thing for years now. I don’t know why anybody would believe them.

    won’t happen before next decade.
there is no viable small solid state batteries in market.
every solid state batteries are for lab only.

Tesla uses Lithium-ion batteries based on Panasonic’s design and are now working on their own future Lithium-ion design. Tesla is actually a non believer in Solid State batteries

      July 17, 2023 at 1:03 pm

@Walter Soto they have been using LFP which are solid state batteries for a while now

      July 18, 2023 at 6:59 pm

@B K elon is an outspoken critic against pursuing solid state battery research, he thinks it is not a viable technology. that added to the empirical fact that tesla cars have never utilized any solid state battery tech make what you are saying complete nonsense.
