No progress has been made in fusion period, the news from LLNL is misunderstood, the energy gain was only inside the holruhm, the energy that went into the lasers that powered the lasers was 99.999% energy converted to waste heat. When you consider all the year round energy that went into the hand full of lasers shots in its history then there is nada to show for it except smoke and mirrors. They don’t even fuse isotopes of hydrogen, they burn xxxx yyyyyy_ide, so that you don’t learn any thermo nuclear secrets.

Nothing will beat solar in the next million year. It’s just the most efficient and abundant source of energy.

    • @goaboi

      December 26, 2023 at 12:09 pm

Solar is the least efficient of all renewable having no more than 25% efficiency

    • @johntheux9238

      December 26, 2023 at 12:14 pm

@@goaboi Not if you account for the efficiency of sunlight heating Earth’s surface to produce wind and rain.
With solar you directly take energy from the source.

@@goaboiwhat tool do you use to extract energy outta it , solar panel or solar Stirling engine one? ????

      Nuclear power

I’ve been waiting for Aptera to happen for like 15 years now.

      It’s happening now.

It’s not even the same company. The new company learned a lot lot lot from the first attempt and is putting out a much better product with a much more sensible business plan as a result. Most likely there will be a Apteras on the road sometime in 2025.

      December 26, 2023 at 8:25 pm

Aptera Inc. was not the same company or is it the same vehicle as the present Aptera Corp. that was founded in 2019.

All these replies are the same replies I’ve been seeing for the past decade.

You asked what you missed and the elephant in the room lurks regular fission. Microfission reactors will start deployment soon everywhere. The Siera Club’s position on nuclear has been the worst thing that has happened to our environment. They have made emissions almost irrecoverable by striking fear in everyone. Their strategy of waiting until other technologies make financial sense has devastated the world.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on nuclear energy. It’s interesting to hear different perspectives on renewable technologies. Speaking of power solutions, have you heard about the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series? It’s a versatile and durable power station with a massive capacity, fast recharging, and comprehensive protections. It’s a great option for outdoor enthusiasts and RV lovers. Check it out!

Guess elon musk didn’t expect that much of a kick from his electric roadster

    • @n.brucenelson5920

      December 26, 2023 at 8:29 pm

Elon did not design his Roadster for efficiency. The AWD Aptera prototypes are both more efficient and have better 0-60 acceleration than the first Tesla Roadsters.

Aptera is designed for a different purpose, and with more advanced tech than was available then.

Aptera founders were caught off guard by the demand for their vehicle as measured by paid pre-orders.

Elon musk said solar panels won’t work. But he thinks his to smart. Technology will evolve and you will see cars with solar panels.

I’m on the list for getting an Aptera.  Can’t wait.  The Aptera makes an ordinary EV look like a deliberate assault on the environment.

aptera is a scam…….over 10 years of nothing but a prototype

Top renewable energy storage tech overlooked – thermal mass storage storing excess solar electric as district heating as seen in Polar Night Energy’s system being run in Finland. Imagine not needing to import resources from another part of the world to be fully locally sustainable once activated.

Again Cnet falsely claims the 2022 fusion reaction “produced more energy than was required to trigger the reaction”. This is FALSE, stop reporting otherwise.

Aptera is a proof of concept of the direction EV designs will be going — high efficiency and solar-assist with smaller/lighter battery packs. This high-tech combination allows an EV to go further than current EV designs and can actually make them more affordable. This is critical for worldwide EV mass adoption. I have pre-ordered one.
