It’s an input device, used to control the games

If that crank is to charge up the device like a crank emergency radio, THAT is worth the price of admission.

    • MistyMountainMedia

      April 11, 2022 at 5:22 pm

it’s not – the crank is part of the controls.

Low res black and white screen with no backlight… for the same price as a Gameboy Advance?! These devs are both pretentious and delusional.

It’s a black and white screen…? In this day and age? For 179$???

    • Nathan Juan

      April 12, 2022 at 6:22 am

And without a charger in the box only the device itself is $179 when you can buy a nintendo switch light with a charger included and colored 720p that has tons of games and can also do youtube.

Its interesting as a novelty item but no real gamer would actually invest their money or time with this product considering there are much better things to spend your money gaming wise than a glorified gameboy micro, this really isn’t exciting to be honest, I would be more interested if it was a legitimately worth it mobile gaming device, at that point I’d just buy a phone and install a couple emulators than this, again its only interesting as a novelty item, its cute but that’s it there’s really nothing else to it, and its to be honest a bit redundant when you try to make more less capable portable gaming devices, nintendo already does well in that market, plus the demand for a gaming pc performance like handheld is very high, this product is nothing in comparison to the steam deck which is a forward evolution to portable gaming by literally cramming an entire pc in a compact package, compared to this which is a backward evolution, you simply added a usb port to a gameboy and called it a day its kind of lazy, not to mention the price like geez just release a phone at that point at least I can use it to call someone

    • ItsCharlieBee

      April 12, 2022 at 12:35 am

To be fair, this isn’t trying to be just another “gameboy emulator” as someone who collects handheld gaming systems this is the first “unique” item I’ve seen in that form factor since the gameboy. There are so many emulation systems out there at this point it’s just boring.

This has its own, completely original(non emulated) line up of games, by some cool developers I might add, that are being released gradually after you get your device instead of all at once. And the team has made the platform open for other developers and even created their own easy to use game creation portal so that even novices can design their own games for the system. It’s a great way for new and young developers to try out game design.

I will 100% agree that it’s nothing compared to the steam deck. This is a “novelty” that is geared more towards people like myself and not everyday gamers. But so far the community for it is incredibly excited for the system and already starting to develop games for it.

    • Nathan Juan

      April 12, 2022 at 7:14 am

@ItsCharlieBee It is unique but it is over priced for what you get.
      1. It is under powered
      2. It is black and white
      3. It is not even 720p
      4. There is no charger included given the price of a $179
      5. Not much games

Where did they get that price tag? Unique is not enough to justify the expensive price tag. But hey if they have a costumer like yourself then good for them but if we are talking about if it was worth for what you get the answer is no.

You can get yourself a nintendo switch light for $200 with a charger, more powerful, much better games and more games, colored heckyou can even watch youtube and browse web.

    • Trap Himawari

      April 12, 2022 at 11:35 am

@ItsCharlieBee even I wouldn’t collect this and Im not even a collector of handheld gaming systems but I do collect other things so I can vouch for the fact that this is within my collectors knowledge, again the price is too much for a novelty item that you might as well save it up and buy a steam deck, and so what its got original games, we aren’t even guaranteed these games are good and besides someone out there has probably emulated those unique games you mentioned you would be surprised to how fast the emulating community is although I highly doubt they would, in conclusion this is not a good product, even if you pitch this to shark tank even they wouldn’t agree to the principles and purpose of the device and they aren’t even gamers, just buy a newer system or buy a pre existing one that is actually more unique than this yellow square, or better yet just save up that money for something worth it, because the only appeal this system has is that its a novelty item and its unique, but so is almost every gaming handheld better except they are actually better and more or less cheaper than this, which is why i said this is lazy, because it is, they could have done better even for a novelty item

That’s nice and all, but a gaming device that recharges via the crank as well would be better. Especially if you don’t have access to you electricity.

Keep it as a functional control but also recharge the device would make it seem less mundane than having to crank it to keep it powered.

But at that price I really don’t see this device being worth it when you already have gaming options on the market that outperform it for around the same value or less.

Don’t focus on the temporary pressure of the present life, but yes focus on the eternal life with Jesus

    Say this prayer of salvation:

Dear Lord Jesus I repent of all of my sins come into my heart I make you my Lord and savior, I receive your gift of eternal life and teach me to do your will, In Jesus name amen and amen.

I don’t understand all the negativity toward the playdate on here. I mean I guess some people aren’t into a device that can play original games made by indie developers but I think it’s awesome. You can even make your own games for this thing! It is very unique and impressive. I see comments like “it’s not worth it for the price, it’s just a glorified Gameboy” or “just get a switch, steam deck, or emulator to play better games cheaper and they are in color and have a back light” I feel like comments like that are missing the point. I love my switch, Gameboy, and (if I ever get it) steam deck but the playdate is not those devices and those are not the playdate. If you don’t see the value or point you don’t have to bash it because you don’t understand it or don’t care to. Alas, this is the internet so I suppose such things are expected.

You can support indie devs on other devices that are worth while, but $179 for a device that only caters to indie devs is not worth it.
