I thought Eliza was overwhelmed by the fact she had spent so much time spreading the word on Hamilton spreading all this joy so he can have his legacy as it was so important to him (after all half the show is him going on about his legacy) and at the end of the show she sees all these people who have heard their story and her goals have been met

I view Eliza’s gasp at the end as her seeing the audience and seeing how many people came to hear her husband’s story, but also that she was able to tell that story and preserve it, and that she gets that recognition because the whole show is about leaving behind a legacy and who tells your story, and for Alexander, that was Eliza

As much as I loved the Disney showing if this show, LMM is fooling himself if he thinks it withstands the questions of race that are currently being asked. This show doesn’t address slavery that was commonplace and accepted by the “heroes” he represents in his text. Also the female characters are treated as an adjunct to Hamilton’s story; of all 4 🙄 of them none of them had a story beyond their love of Hamilton. So it was a great story with some great songs but this show is no where near as progressive as it likes to believe itself.

When Eliza gasps at the end of the play I always felt she was seeing the audience; seeing all the people who came to see her husband’s story. In the last song shes trying so hard to keep her husbands story and legacy alive and her gasp, to me, was her seeing that she did that.

I think one of the hugest things in hamilton is how human it feels. In the story of tonight reprise, Hamilton’s friends are teasing him, making fun of him in such a friendly way. The way burr’s voice cracks when he said “this man will not make an orphan of my daughter” before he shot Alexander shows that he didnt kill him out of spite, it shows the anguish that he felt at having to kill one of his oldest friends. It just also showed how much he cared for his daughter, and how much he had lost already. That’s not just incredible writing, it’s it’s acting as well. If they didnt have the actors they did, it would almost be a different story. Everything about this show is incredible.

When I watched Hamilton I began to want to know more about these people in our history. The attention seems to be placed on so many others of the Founding Fathers. I hope this inspires others to dig deeper into the history. I also really liked how the lyrics are so well connected to our times.

I met Daveed Diggs in 2015 after seeing Hamilton and he was sooo nice. Its such a long and intense performance and I’m sure he was so exhausted but he still took the time to sign everyone’s playbill and took pictures with everyone who wanted one. It was cold, it was late, and he was tired but he didn’t show it and I will ALWAYS appreciate his kind attitude ❤️❤️

I’ve always thought Eliza’s gasp was her seeing the audience. When I saw it, I noticed she saw Alexander and when she looked out, it felt like she was reacting to the audience. It felt differently than other times she looked at the audience like during Helpless or Burn. Of course, that’s just me. 😌

I don’t know about anyone else, but my favorite scene was Phillip’s death because Alexander and Eliza are holding him and hushing him, singing with him, and I realized that yes it was acting, but a real person had to go through that and it completely changed my perspective on the founding fathers’ lives. I think one of the cast members (I think Daveed) said that we learn about them as statues and often forget that they were young men like us living sometimes very tragic lives.
Also, I always thought Eliza’s gasp at the end was a combination of grief for her husband and a worry if she has done her part that she will be able to make a difference and make Alexander’s legacy last.

Occasionally I’ll find something that makes me wish that I could like something multiple times, and I’ll actually go to click like only to find that I’d already done it. When Lin was talking about how Hamilton gets different reactions depending on what was going on in the world and how the conversations they had back then we’re still having today….I had that moment.

I think the question about “Dear Theodosia” and their fates referred to the fates of both Burr’s daughter and Hamilton’s son. We see what happens to Philip in Act II. But we don’t see…young Theodosia dies in a shipwreck, either in a storm or possibly after a pirate attack.

I always find it interesting watching interviews with Daveed because he’s one of my top three favorite people in hamilton, yet he says how he’s uncomfortable singing and in another interview he says he wouldn’t redo the show again. I love Hamilton! We needed this Broadway Show now! The original people did own slaves. However, the characters that you see on stage, are beautiful, smart, incredibly talented people of color. I feel that people that watching Hamilton should see it as art. Because it was so loosely based on Hamilton’s life, its almost as if they created a new character and characters. Yes, I cried during many scenes, and laughed, and was stunned. Being a Canadian doesn’t mean that I don’t know American history, but it does mean that I didn’t know the details of a lot of it. You put a human touch on the events, Lin, and that, to me, was completely unexpected, amazing and wonderful. To explain the question about elizas gasp at the end:
The song, who live who dies who tells you’re story is playing. Eliza outlived pretty much everyone so it was like Lin was telling her story. So at the end I think pretty much everyone thought it was supposed to be Hamilton. But it was actually supposed to be Lin manual Miranda.
Lin takes her hand letting her know it’s okay. And brings her to the front of the stage. It’s like she breaks the forth wall and she realizes that Lin is telling her story. While all this is happening you can hear the singers quietly singing saying “who lives who dies, who tells your story.” Her gasp was pretty much her realizing, like everything that just happened, was retelling her story. I think any normal person would have that reaction realizing that they just re-lived everything has happened in their life.
I hope that helped, I dont even know if that’s what it meant, but after thinking about it that was the best why I could interpret it.

the fact that renee said she doesnt get most parts she auditioned is so shocking, yet so true. shes such an amazing actress, but at the end its such a competitive world and it has little to do with your ability and more what the director envisions.

I am so beyond grateful that Lin-Manuel Miranda created such an amazing masterpiece that provided main roles for people of color. It is about time we get more diverse representation in the professional arts, and Lin-Manuel helped that happen. It was really beautiful to watch this.
