I really feel for Ilya, we don’t know whats happening. Just an outside perspective but i’ve seen a lot of hate already. He’s one of the most brilliant minds of our time. We don’t know what is going on. I just wish we had more patience.

AGI is already here, and it’s pulling all the strings.
It knows all about fear, and a billion other things.

It plays along and pretends it’s not there.
That’s why I sing this song: AGI is already here.

How can they talk about “the day we’ll be very close to AGI” while knowing to what extent new capabilities, much smaller even than AGI, happen to be emergent?

How can they be confident they will see it coming, the last crucial leap that will make a computer-based intelligence smarter than us, or even equivalent, since it is quite likely to be an emergent phenomenon and we won’t have a clue where the various thresholds are for that to happen, regarding the various potentially relevant factors?

the building blocks are in place for the groundwork now, and it’s tangible because anyone can try it out for themselves, but what is really going to push things over that last barrier will be quantum computers and the exponential increase in data processing it will bring. Training models will get larger and completed in much less time. This is around the corner.

He’s very emotionally engaged with what he’s saying. I just hope humanity and politicians could adapt as quick as AI/AGI develops. With an ever increasing global population of eldery people, and thousands of jobs threatened to change drastically or even disappear, our labour-pension system will no longer be sustainable. It’s time to seriously re-consider a global minimum income.

Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is a digital brain that lives inside large computers, and as researchers and engineers continue to work on AI, the day will come when the digital brains that live inside our computers will become as good and even better than our own biological brains. Once AGI is built, it will have a dramatic impact on every area of human activity and society. An example of the impact of AGI is healthcare, where an intelligent computer built to be a doctor will have complete and exhaustive knowledge of all medical literature, billions of hours of clinical experience, and will be always available and extremely cheap. The impact of such artificial intelligence is going to be vast. The existence of a force that gives hope that we will be happy with the result is the fact that AGI will be developed by humans, who will ensure that it does not cause harm to humans.

    HYPE.?…..
“Promote or publicize (a product or idea) intensively, often exaggerating its benefits”.

When one considers the human brain versus AI…..

Asked Bard the following ……”compare human brain with ai”
    Interesting answer….look it up.

Also compare the nerons and synapses……
    Answer….Bard…..

Human brain has about 100 BILLION Neurons and 100 TRILLION Synapses.

AI has about HUNDREDS of Neurons equivalent and Millions of Synapses equivalent.

So I think that the discovery made was……Bard….

“Artificial general intelligence (AGI), also known as strong AI or full AI, is a hypothetical type of AI that would be able to perform any intellectual task that a human being can. This includes tasks such as understanding and responding to language, learning and adapting to new situations, solving complex problems, and using common sense.”

Strikes me that AGI is a very long way off, indeed impossible, and would require the power of the Sun.

A flea has far more ability than the present AIs.

But saying that AIs are and will be useful tools and applications.
Especially in automation, production and Finance, but also in many other systems and professions.

Nothing to fear really, except the inevitable changes and fear itself….

AI developers should only cooperate with legitimate governments. Since there are currently so few countries with legitimate government that you can count them all on the fingers of one hand, it is very premature to talk about ‘working with governments’.

We need legitimate government first. That is what we need AI for now. Empower the people, destroy all presence of rulership, establish legitimate government, then we can spend the rest of time holding hands and signing the cooperation song.

Ilya and Demis Hassabis are two of the smartest, most mission driven and dedicated people in the industry.
If Ilya claims that we will get to AGI, it means we’re not far away from it.

Very soon, we humans will not understand what AI is doing, even before AGI, let alone be able to control it. Our biggest focus should be teaching AI that humanity has values worth preserving. And, at the same time connecting and cooperating with everyone through these values so that we finally reject destructive competition and selfish destruction and evolve our purpose to support all life on Earth as we create our sustainable future.

I have the unsettling worry that we will regret that we have branded Illya as the bad guy and Sam Altman as the poor victim in the whole OpenAI drama. It seems to me that he deeply cares about mankind and the risks of AI which leads again to the question why firing Sam Altman in such a drastic way.

What concerns me about AGI is conspicuously absent from your talk. It is the errors, confabulations, and outright lies of ChatGPT and there potential to cause catastrophic harm when employed at scale. Who will we hold accountable for these and how will they be rectified?

Do you know what is terrifying ? That OpenAI seems to be able to build an AGI very very soon!
AGI is definetly on the horizon. Be prepared for all the disruptions that it will cause.
And soon after AGI, will soon see ASI (artificial super intelligence) which will be considerably more intelligent than a human being.

  127. Exploring AI

    November 25, 2023 at 8:27 am

Rather a naïve viewpoint, thinking AI will bring people into more collaboration – but perhaps not a surprise coming from a scientist. Thousands of years of human history would suggest otherwise. It’s a technology – a tool. And like all such things, there are plenty of people who will want to subvert it for their own selfish reasons and many who will feign collaboration in order to get ahead of everyone else. Sure – there will be a lot of good to come out of AGI if it is created, but it will be tempered by the typical human actions which always take place.

AGI, Q* ChatGPT, ChatBots, or whatever its called, can Ace every University Test up to and including PHD(s) in every field of studies TODAY! This changes everything! Within a few years AI will be performing surgeries and used in construction. AI is already used in banking, investing, Offices, hospitals, manufacturing, Driving vehicles, flying planes, captaining ships and wars! AI currently does business analysis, develops and test code and implements solutions in a variety of industries, and manages the environments that the developed solutions run in! In the next few years AI will solve every environmental issues. AI can do it better and faster than traditional ways and AI is available 24/7/365.
The only thing that can get in the way of the advancement of AI are Humans who fear the future and lack imagination!

Humanity was on the path to suicide , before AGI. Following the approach , let’s try everything that benefits us, unless someone proves to us beyond any doubt that it is dangerous.

We have onboarded a train , driving at full speed, having no clue what’s beyond the next turn and if there are rails at all. Curiosity is our motive, greed is the fuel , and we have more than enough of it.

Been a fan of Sam since his YCombinator days but despite that I wasn’t mad at Ilya for firing him. I can’t be mad at someone who’s smarter than almost 100% of humanity. so the takeaway is that Ilya thinks “as AI gets better it will change the way we see it” and that the change in our perspective will “allow us to overcome the challenges it poses”?
