      They are trying too hard to be The Verge, while The Verge is trying too hard to be The New York Times, and The New York Times is now a casual game company that does some (polarizing) news content on the side.

      No one seems to have planned for decreasing ad revenue or shifting consumer interests, so they flop around trying to stay relevant, even though they risk losing their core audience, downplaying their strengths and overplaying their weaknesses.
