This is why we don’t have flying cars yet…

We have flying cars, they’re just called helicopters.

CNET is being disingenuous here, strongly using the word RECALL as if it’s a legacy company that has to physically bring all vehicles into dealerships, and ignoring the fact that the people who had accidents were the stupid type who would have crashed a legacy vehicle as well.

    • @MrGoodeats

      December 14, 2023 at 11:09 am

Not to mention why do they have this girl in a hijab as the journalist? She in no way shape or form represents the people she is reporting to. Diversity hire if I’ve ever seen one. Sad for CNET and for her.

This isn’t a recall. Any media source or journalist who uses the word recall here loses ALL credibility.

    • @zero11010

      December 14, 2023 at 11:13 am

It is a recall. You’re being pedantic and thinking about it wrong.

The car isn’t being brought in. There is a critical fix the dealer needs to make on a car.

Technology has gotten to a point where not all recalls require physically bringing the car in … it’s still a recall.

Can you imagine if this is how they phrased other patch updates? Apple recalls 120 million phones for a critical iOS update!

      Right?

It’s not like android updates are problematic. No one has EVER complained about stability after windows updates.

No video game has ever had problems after a patch.

The more engineers you have working on something, and the larger the thing is … the more likely you are to have bugs in that software.

That’s not a new idea. The more physical parts you have on a piece of machinery and the more complex it is, the more likely you are going to see manufacturing problems.

    • @zero11010

@@austine1425 that’s not why the phrasing exists. It’s a mandate from the federal agency that handles recalls.

I’m just saying … it would be silly to refer to every patch as a recall. Certainly a lot of security updates can be hugely impactful to owners. And, that’s basically what a lot of the updates are.

YOU called it a software defect. You are WRONG! Due to this letter, Tesla issued a software enhancement. Thank you Tesla for creating a vehicle platform that can continue to be enhanced with zero effort from the 2 million owners. By the way since all other vehicles that have cruise control/auto pilot are not able to monitor and subsequently limit their drivers use of those systems, should all other vehicles be recalled?
