i must be one of the few who have no desire to dock or play off my TV. I sold my switch after the switch lite was released, since I never docked my switch either.

so your not recommending the dock with m.2 because its too difficult for you to set it up that sounds like a you problem other ppl can probaly figure it out and im sure there are youtube videos smh they need better reviewers

TBH it really was difficult, even after following multiple YouTube videos. Took me over an hour to get it properly configured (formatting the m.2 properly, getting it to even register on my Steam Deck, configuring it to always show up without having to manually load it each time the Steam Deck boots up, etc) and I consider myself tech-savy.

@S. Alexander Stork yeah but I bet you purchased your deck with the understanding that you’d have to tinker and troubleshoot from time to time

@chaosknight360 absolutely, but the point remains – it was more difficult than I feel like it should be 😂 It’s absolutely worth the hassle if you play docked, I just loaded up all my party games on the external m.2

I bought a $40 dock that has everything except Ethernet.

One thing that is not mentioned is that the official Steam Dock comes with a power adapter, which definitely factors in the price.
I don’t know why this doesn’t get mentioned often.

My deck has TERRIBLE resolution when docked. It’s basically just an identical image blown up to be TV sized. Absolutely terrible looking.

intressting, I don’t have that problem. Actually was very suprised by how good it looks even when playing at 800p

@Ragnarök same. My resolution on my display is fine too. It’s not mind blowing AAA quality, but it’s absolutely within reason for a $400 gaming PC (completely ignoring that it is a handheld as well.)

You can change what resolution games start at by clicking on the gear icon ⚙️ on the game’s page, select “Properties”, and in the “General” section (or “Shortcut” for non-Steam games) you can select whatever “Game Resolution” you want. I usually select “Native” so it continues to be 720p in handheld, and then whatever my TV’s resolution is when docked.

Unfortunately you do have to do this for every game you want to play docked.

you can connect an external m.2 with usb to the stem deck dock and it works the same with the optimize steam deck compatibility.

Never could get the official dock to work on my TV (Hisense U8G), and steam support troubleshooting tips didn’t fix anything. Think ill give the jsaux one a shot.
