It is a walkman media player for music. Last media player to survive during the ipod and short lived samsung galaxy media player.

if you listen to music on spotify, you should never use this device just use your smartphone. The whole point of this device is that that it can play hi-res files. There are several streaming services that have master quality audio, 24bit audio files, or even just CD quality audio.

Walkman changed their target market after the early 2010s. Moved on from the casual market and focused more on the audiophile market. Especially around 2015 I’ve been noticing this trend in the audio world. This was still way before when Bluetooth earbuds were trendy.

This does not fill the void of a walkman at all.. it’s just your smartphone with no WiFi.
Needs to be able to play physical tapes to classify as a walkman.

As someone who was in awe of new tech (WinAmp, iPod, then later on smartphones) when they came out, I went back to rebuild my cassette and CD collection (1500+ CDs and 500+ tapes!), and not going back!

I can live without streaming which is not a bad way to listen to music if you prefer so.

But no, I can’t live without physical media anymore. It’s a different passion and a different ritual than just listening to music in the background like you would on a smartphone or even standalone music players.

To each is own but my true joy is in physical media. It’s an amazing experience day in and day out.

At almost US$300, new Walkman costs the same as a midrange smartphone. It shouldn’t since it can’t make calls. They added unnecessary features that are already on your smartphone. What we want is a Walkman that’s around US$90 to $150, only plays music from Spotify or YouTube Music, has a headphone jack, 36 hours of battery life, and has enough storage for thousands of songs that can be listened to offline.
