Different countries have different rules. Teachers at K-12 schools in Australia do not qualify. The verification system does not recognise the work email.

Military/veterans/national guard/reserves can use ID me to get a 10% discount. Very easy to use and free. No hoops to go through. Heck, the discount also worked in the refurb shop.

Putting the Neo aside, Costco regularly discounts Macs. You just have to wait for the sale, which is often cheaper than the education discount. Also if you’re a college grad, many campus stores can apply the education discount for alumni (probably varies by state/school, but it’s true where I live).

You can also get a discount from Apple if you’re a federal government employee or a veteran. You can usually get around $100 off a desktop or a MacBook.

Apple is doing a lot of damage to itself by implementing these changes. And a warning, they are contracting to different agencies to run their education verification in different countries. The Australian company only recognises Australian institutions which excludes me, an Australian based educator delivering in Ethiopia, India, Japan and the Philippines. After 20 years or so I am now excluded from the education discount for my purchases thus I am no longer an advocate for my students to buy Apple. The most fortunate change that really makes Apple redundant now in the classroom is the shift to web-based delivery. Thus any low-cost device will serve the students well, especially cheap smart phones. I doubt Apple’s business plan has considered this.

In anticipation of price hikes I upgraded all of my apple products over the past year. MacBook Air M4 (2) a M4 Mac mini, and a M2 iPad Air. Every one of these were bought through the refurb store. I have always purchased via refurb when I can find it. They have full warranty, 100% eligibility for Apple Care and save hundreds of dollars. If you are targeting specific memory parameters etc, you may have to wait and be always checking back, but eventually goldilocks do appear.

The refurbished ones can also have AppleCare+ added. I’ve bought several refurbished devices from Apple over the years, and I’ve never had a bad experience with them.

As has been mentioned, Best Buy is an excellent source for Apple products. If you want the latest, just wait a few days after the release of a new product and there will be a flood of returns which are basically new. You may need to shop around on their site for the specific location of the model you want, it if one is near you may be in luck and can check it out for its condition before plonking down your wallet.

Guys, seriously. What I learned in this video was that the school discounts have tighter requirements (did not know, thanks for that) and….
How about a short next time, here are the school discount requirements and refurbished carries only 1 year of warranty instead of applecare and the NEO is not showing up in the discount section – good to know for the average parent.
Other, cheaper accessories, exist… Apple doesn’t do discounts and other stores lower the price by $10… For the average Parent who might have 15 minutes of free time during their lunch break or around school stuff as back to school starts, a six minute video of a whole lot of unneeded information is entirely unhelpful. I gotta thumbs down.

Veterans discount is 10% at Apple. I just bought a brand new iPhone 17e for $539 from Apple, and a refurbished M1 Pro MacBook Pro with 32 GB RAM and 1.0 TB storage for $949 from OWC.

It is absolutely crazy that Apple revamped their education program so that it no longer includes K-12 students. I cannot even understand the logic of that. They should want to incentivize kids to be using Macs or they will start on Windows machines and not want to switch.
