The operating system might be an upgrade but the look is not. It looks cheap.

So I have had a the watch for around 5 days , galaxy watch 40mm BT , having never owned a wear os smartwatch I did have a active watch 2 with tizen and comparing it to apple watch which I have had 3/5/6 series I can now say this for me is most comparable to apple watches . I am impressed with the general polish and lag free experience , battery life is probably better than apple watch 6, for me today I took it off charge 9:45am , tracked a workout 45mins and two walks 30 mins, notifications on messaging ,all sensors are on , brightness at 40% and general playing around as you do with a new device it’s now 11:15pm and the battery is 55% not bad definitely needs a top up charge if you wear to sleep track but I reckon would last two days …so I did see somewhere a rumoured 40. Hour battery life I think it’s quite accurate.

You have been able to add Google assistant and alexa on galaxy watches for several years.

    • Jordan Wright

Everything about it is better than the active 2

    • Client Inbox LLc

      August 26, 2021 at 11:33 pm

Got the active 2 as a gift for someone. They love it. So much they won’t let me near it to give them tips and tricks. For 3 weeks I heard nothing from them. Then I saw them zipping around with the watch on changing bands. It’s a good watch.

    August 26, 2021 at 10:31 pm

For running I would definitely choose the GW4 over the classic model. Less weight equal less bounce off the watch on my wrist and that means better and more accurate heat rate data information. Not to mention better water and sweat resistant band.
If I’m not mistaken the resistance of the glass panel is a bit better too while the classic uses normal DX gorila glass since it has the rotating bezel working as a bump.

    • AB

      August 27, 2021 at 12:17 am

Did the Samsung website mention these differences that you pointed out? Link?

    • MiracleWarriors

      August 27, 2021 at 12:27 am

@AB I know this for personal use. I had the Watch 3, ,original GW and Active 1.
The less heavy the watch is, the less it bounces in your wrist it gets better and faster accuracy data from the heart rate monitoring. The wrist strap in the Active line also had a better lockdown versus the normal big Brothers with rotating bezel that normally had a different kind of silicone ( or leather) wrist band.
Knowing this and because I like running so much, that I will “replace” my GW3 with the GW4 ( Active 3 or 4) instead. Not just because it is less expensive.

    • AB

      August 27, 2021 at 12:34 am

@MiracleWarriorsThis time the bands are interchangeable between gw4 & classic (20mm both). The bigger one will bounce more depending on how good the fit is but I couldn’t find any references regarding less water resistance and difference in the gorilla glass between the two.

    • MiracleWarriors

      August 27, 2021 at 12:41 am

@AB not sure about the GW4 family but the GW3 had a less resistant DX ( screen) while the Active 2 had DX+ . This is just about cost reduction probably. The classic did not had the same gorilla glass level because the rotating bezel protected the screen while the Active had to have a better version of protection. I’m guessing the same is happening with the GW4 and GW4 classic .

I got the classic because of the bezel but that green one wow..
The other reason i didn’t get the 4 And when with the classic It’s because the 4 is going to be delayed for about another month and I just didn’t want to wait anymore

Hey man, you don’t need a watch to tell you what to do if you’re over weight. If you don’t know, ask Bixby, I’m sure you’ll get your answer.

I have watch 3 and it get blood pressure, oxygen and glucose along with heart rate. Why does people keep saying that, cause I’ve had it for over 8 months? I check my glucose almost every day just too see if it changes and it doesn’t. My is 68 bpm right now and no stress according to my watch.

    • exclusivelynyc

      August 26, 2021 at 11:58 pm

@Client Inbox LLc you can check your blood glucose and blood oxygen, that’s cool. I have the active 2. I can check blood pressure and that’s why I was asking. It is a separate app that samsung has. Also, the numbers don’t migrate to samsung health which is not cool.

You say that it has a great set of watches faces. I think there are a lot of fun gimmicky ones that you would soon get tired of but the classic style faces are disappointing in my opinion. We used to have watch faces on Tizen with 3D like effects and active sharing, but these all look flat.

There are plenty of animated watch faces for W3…I have rotating planets and earth, body scans, radars, animated clouds and weather and slide shows. Why don’t you know this stuff? I hate when people do reviews and don’t know the basics of the products they are talking about. Then proceed to tell watchers, it’s not available or they don’t have, do your homework before reviewing.

Galaxy watch is a decent smart watch but I feel like it doesn’t know what direction to take. The potential is good but I feel like it’s battling with itself (Samsung vs google). Google and Samsung paired up for the money and you can tell the customer is paying for the it. Yes it has gotten better then last years, but Samsung and google need to stop battling each other and when/ if they do the outcome could be better. Take the Apple Watch for example because apple makes every part of the watch it doesn’t have another company to deal with. Siri works well better than Samsung bixby and the software and the hardware play well with each other. The watch much like android is so dysfunctional that instead of making a really good watch, it’s only decent. Samsung and google are shooting themselves in the foot.

I just received mine – silver model classic, and I just sent it back. If Samsung tries to play Apple 2 then yes, just without me. Blood pressure and pulse just work with their crappy Samsung Health App which is JUST and ONLY available for Samsung phones – one of the reasons I bought this watch. Overall the watch looks cheap IMHO, no great design. The battery went from 73% to 34% while playing with it for 3 hrs. My first and last Samsung product. I wait for Google to come up with their Pixel watch – hopefully this will be better match to my Pixel phone. Go figure Samsung.

The swiping thing.. I never know it with this….its funny and you get used to it, but you never get used to it…and when you switch back to a samsung phone then you’re back…🤔
And why this phones don’t got google assisted? Hmm…..I get it, it’s just the swiping and the apps? However I don’t knownof I mind Bixby, nothing wrong with a own character but google work perfect in all languages, but deletes a bit the sci fi look, till they add cortanana amaination talking….now I start over that. Why there isn’t a google assistant with a animated face or even a blue cortanan holo looking statue that start glowing blue when you say Okey google
Still seems the own google watches turn all out pretty good.
And I should want this 1, but…I’m not gonna spend that money but this should be it I think…

Even though my Gear S 3 Frontier has lag issues, I still cant find a reason to buy a new watch yet.

    • J T

      August 27, 2021 at 11:18 pm

Plus your Gear S3 has MST, which the Galaxy Watch 4 doesn’t, and _dramatically_ better battery life (assuming you’ve swapped out the original battery by now as I have)! Here in Canada, most of those new health features _still_ aren’t approved (despite supposedly being offered on the Watch 3 as well), so aren’t available. Finally, I took a look at the Classic in person today and not gonna lie, it looks kinda cheap to me – I think the Frontier looks better. I was looking forward to this watch, to finally upgrade – now I’m think why bother too.

    Terrible reviewer
Your watch will transfer the date to Samsung Health which will sync and connect to most health apps like myfitnesspal and etc. Only let down is the ecg and blood pressure. Allowing all the benefits for Android users just means losing out on customers trading samsung for other brand. Samsung isn’t stupid. You can probably download apk for ecg and blood pressure anyway.

  43. David Perez

    August 27, 2021 at 11:02 pm

It’s not just the rotating bezel, you also paying more on the Classic for the stainless steel. Btw, people complaining on how a Samsung watch works best with a Samsung phone, what are you expecting? Complain to your phone brand for not making a quality watch, I mean you dont see nobody complaining to Apple for their watch not working with any other brand 😂😂

Worried now. FedEX just delivered my G4. I had the original Galaxy Watch Classic. Only complaint was the battery life. I am small and so got the 40. I also got LTE so I can listen to music and my husband can reach me when I am walking without having to take my phone. I wear nothing with pockets. Am I going to have the same issues as I had with the original that I still have and worked up to me activating my new watch? I have 3 days to return with out paying restocking $. Plus, no blood pressure? Why? Apple watches have it. Why would the FDA ok one and not the other????? Guess I will test it like crazy for two days and hope at least one full day (6 a.m. to 10 pm or midnight) worth of battery life. At home it is connected to my phone and my house wi-fi. Comments?

Hi, do you guys have problems with overheating using LTE? I can make calls with ‘watch only’ for a couple of minutes till overheating and the watch throttles down and switchs to airplane mode for cooldown, ending the call. Also while installing an app and continue browsing through the store on the watch leads to overheating, when using mobile data only. Thats soooo sad 🙁

I watched this video to see if a speaker was built-in. I guess its isn’t. 5 years ago I was living in Spain and bought a Spanish brand watch and its been my favorite all these years, because I can exercise and listen to my music without losing awareness of my surrounding by using ear buds. If anyone has a newer than 5 year suggestion for a watch with a speaker, I’m all ears 🙂

    • KusMoG X

      August 28, 2021 at 8:54 pm

It does have a built-in speaker. If you listen at 7:32 in the video you’ll hear Bixby responding to voice commands from the Galaxy Watch 4’s speakers. It’s amazing how I couldn’t find any Galaxy Watch 4 YouTube video with a legitimate speaker test though, with the music app, calls, Spotify. Sure there’s copyright issues to worry about but you can get around that by playing royalty free music, among other different ways.
Beware though: from watching other videos I’m hearing that Google Maps, Spotify, and YouTube Music does *not* play audio through the built-in speakers. Some third party apps like Video Tube can. So it’s a mixed bag.
If the Galaxy Watch 4 is anything like the previous generations of Galaxy Watch, the native Music app will also be able to play music from the built-in speaker on the watch but I can’t confirm that because I won’t get my Watch 4 until late September.

Such a stupid review. People buy the classic for stainless steel and the rotating bezel. This is the same reason they buy apple watch SS. Secondly if the watch is giving you 2 days of battery, compare with Apple watch and that you wouldn’t but everything else you will.

What does the band feel like? Is the band comfortable? If you need to change the band what size do you need?

Yes the classic is really good but with LTE, gps, Bluetooth, and AOD off the battery for me on the 46mm model is barely a day with little use.

Other than the battery life it is a very good watch.

I have had this a few days now. My biggest complaint is the redundancy of the Samsung apps and Google apps (and lack of Google assistant). I prefer the Google Fit stuff but the Samsung Health stuff is hard to not use being that it seems to be front and center and integrated into everything where as Google Fit seems to be more of an effort to use. I also have concerns about using another Android phone. I got a Samsung Galaxy about a year and a half ago. I only got it cause I got a big discount through work. I had been using a Pixel cause it’s just cleaner. I was going to go back to a Pixel once the contract ends. At the end of the day though, this watch really only cost me like $50. I used cc points to cover the cost and even then, BestBuy gives you a $50 gift certificate (maybe on pre-orders only) so I essentially paid zero for it.

With all of that being said, I probably should have waited until the new Fitbit with WearOS comes out. It will probably be cleaner and more integrated with Google apps or at least one would think.

Google should just let Samsung make all of Google’s branded hardware.

I have the smaller screen watch 4(not classic). So far it lasts about a day and some change with moderate use for me.

My apple watch series 6 Nike edition has way better battery than my galaxy watch 4. Used my galaxy watch 4 this morning on a 30 minute run and haven’t used it after. The battery drained almost 40%

Don’t worry, the red zone means “thicc” and the green zone means “malnourished”. So, you’re good. ☺️

Bought the classic watch 4. Just waiting for my case to arrive before using it as a daily watch.

I got back into fitness thanks to the Active2 and Samsung Health. Use Samsung Workout Trainer as well. Great ecosystem so this upgrade is truly a dream come true for the lot of us that stayed on the Active2 so long. So much more modern, very premium, and so fast and responsive. Wears better too I think.

Having just tried the watch after owning many Samsung watches it’s pretty clear the Wear OS has been completely assimilated by Tizen. Every Tizen user will immediately know how to operate this device. The Android OS is pure Tizen with the addition of Playstore. It’s a great move by Samsung and has saved what was the most horrible watch OS (Wear) from extinction. Are these the ultimate Android watches? No, they might just be the ultimate Tizen watches. I think Google should have been honest here and just admit they dropped Wear in favour of Tizen.

Has anyone had issues with the Watch 4 Classic LTE overheating? I’ve seen it happen on 2 devices. Might be a problem when the LTE Radio is in use.
