Samsung’s new Galaxy S22 Ultra is the Galaxy Note update we never got last year. It has the same design as Samsung’s Galaxy Note phones, plus it comes with an S Pen that you can store inside the device. Samsung has also improved the camera to work better in low light conditions, and the device comes with some other routine upgrades like a new processor.

I have a note 9 from day one & damn, i dont get thrilled with anything new yet…..S22 ultra is a great phone but it all feels the same for me in daily use!!! Maybe i have to leave samsung enviroment for a while and try something different in order to feel that major upgrade….at least, in my eyes!!

I have the Galaxy fold and fold 2 and use my stylus with them for work all day long. There is absolutely nothing else Samsung could manufacture that would cause me to give them any more money. They have run out of ideas. And what galaxy fold owner would switch to use any other device anyway? That’s a non sequitur.

As a person who’s been using every samsung galaxy since the S1, I’m happy they’re combining the series. I always noticed that the Note series got updates later than the S series despite being newer. Now that they’re combined it should be around the same time which is wonderful. i also don’t need to buy a new phone every 6 months if i want the newest specs lmao.

Interesting that you see that pattern. I have always had a note and my husband tends to have the equivalent S and my updates are usually before his. Although with the update this week mine was a day later.

Honestly, even if they didn’t change anything from the Note 20 Ultra besides upgrading the front facing camera to 40 MP and increasing the battery from 4500 to 5500-6000 mAH, that alone would’ve been a massive upgrade. 5000 mAH just seems standard and doesn’t get my hopes up for any increase in extended day to day usage vs the Note 20 Ultra.

I’m only upgrading because I’m getting a great deal for my Note 20 Ultra and to have value for future trade in. Removing the SD card was a major mistake.

One thing I didn’t see you mention is that the sensor the hm3 was upgraded substantially with mods, also the npu was vastly upgraded by Qualcomm

Excited for the upgrade, but the S10+ was a great phone, but the battery just melts way too quick now and has some heating issues, the expandable storage will be missed but I had the phone for 3 years and still haven’t filled up 256gb so i’m sure i’ll be fine with 512gb.

i just bought a note 10 plus because this s22 lacks micro as card support coming from note 10 plus

  24. Stevan B.

    February 16, 2022 at 1:16 am

As continuous Note/S user in last 6 years, maybe I expected more from first device that merges Note and S lineup but:
    – curved screen (while other 2 models have flat one, makes no sense)
    – no expandable storage
    – only 12Gb of ram (I know, I know it’s more than enough but 16Gb would be more appropriate as Note10+ from 2019. had same 12Gb)
    – hit and miss with camera once again
    – same old Exynos vs Snapdragon story

I don’t know, it feels tempting, but like with every other Samsung in last few years there are just too many compromises. I don’t know if Samsung is pushing foldables at the moment, but whole phone looks like it’s back design – good, but could be much better.

Samsung seriously needs to do something about its cameras. They take fantastic photos in good conditions, but conditions are seldom good and that’s where it has been crashing (figuratively). My Note 9 took better photos in some situations than my Note 20 Ultra and I already see the exact same issue in these examples.

    Great Job Samsung! 😍
One thing I am still missing and wished since the Note 9 is the support of
    ✍️”SHOPPING LIST MODE” / “NOTEPAD MODE” ✍️
    for the screen-off notes.
I think it would be one of the MOST USED FEATURES.
For CASUAL, PROFESSIONAL and BUSINESS users.
    ______________
E.g. pull out the pen when the screen is off and double-press the pen-button and you can write a shopping list which is automatically pinned to the screen-off display and displayed all the time until disabled. Also this mode should keep the screen-off notes at its original size instead of “shrinking” it while pinned.
When that mode is active, you can look at the list on the off-screen display, and then by taking out the pen you can immediately edit the screen-off note, and STRIKE-OUT one ingredient/task that’s now in the shopping cart / done.
JUST LIKE A REAL NOTEPAD WHERE YOU WOULD WRITE A SHOPPING/TASK LIST ONTO.
    ____________
I think this would convert even more people to Note fans and let them see how extremely useful the S-Pen actually is!

@Samsung if you read this please think about implementing it and especially how many average phone users (without the “need” of an S-pen) would be able to relate on how useful this could be -> and as a result might convert/try the Samsung S22 Ultra and predecessors.

I have a Note (now Ultra) since the Note 4 and will never give up the S-pen again.
Nevertheless, this is a feature I am wishing for for years, ever since you brought the screen-off notes to the Note series.

All Samsung did was to take the Note 20 Ultra, put the guts of the S21 Ultra into it, tweak the software for the camera to claim it’s “better” than the S21 Ultra, and then they call it a S22 Ultra fooling people into thinking it’s some new shiny thing. It’s not. Samsung knows how people think. The greedy always want the best, and they think the ‘latest’ of anything tech-wise fits the bill. No. There are no significant improvements, so it’s just a marketing ploy and way of leading consumers by the nose with these halfassed “new models”. The only improvements should have been software fixes for the Note 20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra. But no. “Newest models” are a sucker magnet. It’s a money making scam by Samsung. At the very least, anybody with a S21 Ultra has no business falling for this ploy.

Upgrading from the S10+, which is def worth the upgrade!! (especially if you’re a YouTuber). Pre-ordered from Vodafone NZ who gave me a very good deal and get to pay it off over 12 months. One UI 4, Android 12, pro cameras with large sensors, and 40MP selfie/front camera. Big camera lenses to let in more light. Large fingerprint sensor. Dual micro sim slot.

  76. ALxdCr4ftPlays

    February 18, 2022 at 10:50 am

The S22 & S22+ have smaller camera sensors (selfie and main camera), no 10x optical zoom (can only do 3x optical zoom, the rest is sketchy digital zoom), smaller battery capacity, less RAM.

It’s basically designed and also known as the Note 22. So, why not call it S22 Note Ultra? Anyway, they could have really made it perfect if it has a micro sd card slot/upradeability on top of the 1GB max storage, 16 GB of memory, headphone jack, replaceable battery

    • JRLossMit SE

      February 19, 2022 at 3:19 pm

… and should have come with a 45-watt charger! Then, come August, apply all those (including S-pen in slot to the Z Fold 4, add dual batteries, make the front and correspondingly the inside screens wider, coupled with the already faster, more frequent, and much longer software updates. Lastly, exceed the iPhone’s cpu and gpu speeds and performance. Keep the Microsoft windows as well as Google alliances and integrations. Then, Samsung can truly have dominance, not just in the android world but in all mobile phone devices, including the phones!!! Btw, all of our could have been implemented by Apple of only it is not that greedy and to controlling!

I still can’t decide if this is worth the upgrade from my S21 Ultra. I’m not sure the S-pen is something I would use enough to make it worth it and I’m really a fan of the rounded corners VS the squared edges. I am always a sucker for the new flagship phone and generally upgrade every year. Decisions, decisions!
