I’m an artist in the gaming field, we often have shared terms with programmers for completely different things (example – tangents), but as an animator specifically it was interest to find out that you use the term inverse kinematics (IK)! I am guessing it’s somewhat similar (didn’t fully follow the robot one), but in animation it’s when say the leg or arm (a series of bones) follow a point at the end of the bone chain instead of the parentage starting at the top (FK). Anyways, I have never heard the term outside of animation so that was neat to learn you guys also use it!

I have to respectfully disagree with this statement; ask any industrial maintenance technician, or any machine operator that’s been doing the job for more than 6 months, and they’ll tell you that we absolutely learn to speak the machine’s language – robot or otherwise. It may be beeps and boops, or it might be an unusual vibration, but it’s definitely a language.

Why can’t robots be connected to the information network? I either web where the information can be obtained. Instantaneously and see how the thousands of the norms for how human behavior exists and how those are portrayed in hourly expressed with the overwhelmingly population up there, the creation of those algorithms can be self-taught in a manner. Of information, no bits of information to obtain in learning. Does that exist?

One really good reason I hear for people making human-*shaped* robots (as opposed to robots that *look* like people) is that most things are currently made for human shaped operators, so currently a human-shaped robot would be compatible with a lot of things that already exist

I find it very interesting, the way she is sugarcoating the social economical effects of millions of unemployed people.
Especially because, I assume, she thinks, she and her peers won’t be affected by it.
A rather worrying lack, of self-reflection and critical thinking, in regards to developments that will affect the livelihood of others.
    Especially for a Professor.

    • Taruna Sudhakar

      November 24, 2022 at 7:49 pm

There is a labour crisis going on. Also, the population is rapidly aging in many places which is going to further exacerbate this problem. Historically, technology destroys some jobs but also creates new ones in their place. Power looms displaced handloom weavers but created new opportunities in industrial operations. Society will adapt.

    • The Ancient Astronomer

      November 24, 2022 at 8:05 pm

@Taruna Sudhakar Historically yes,you are correct to a specific extent, but there comes a point in the technological advantage, in witch the loss of human requirement in labour cannot be replaced by equal amount of replacement jobs.
Not everyone can become an engineer, not everyone can become a coder/programmer.
And even those specific qualifications, can be replaced by a, sophisticated enough, A.I.
We will reach a point, were we as a society, have to face a ginormous amount of unemployed human beings, with all the ugly and terrible consequences.
And as long we continue to live in a monetary social economical environment, there’s never going to be a good solution to the problem.

Then we’ll achieve paradise on Earth. We’ll sit around eating grapes, drinking wine, and f’ng our brains out. Eventually, we’ll degenerate into totally helpless blobs, and our species will disappear, proving that we didn’t deserve to be here in the first place. After that, God will replace us with cockroaches and try it all again, just to see if something different happens. But, you know the definition of insanity, don’t you?

“Why do we need cars driving around slowly getting in everyone’s way? Are we just making new methods of transportation for the sake of it?” – a person in early 1900s

At some point, autonomous vehicles and robots will probably be the norm, and the idea of people driving cars around will seem as quaint as horses being a primary mode of transport does to us today.

It might be kind of annoying in the intervening period though whilst the roads and cities are still built for the old way.

If anyone is interested in nanobots, look into molecular biology.

Proteins are built at the atomic / nanometer scale. Your body has factories that build these tiny machines. They are nanomachines, and they are important to the function of every cell in your body. Your digestive system is run by biological nanomachines. Your nerves have protein-based pumps that move individual atoms to generate electric charge. Cells use protein receptors to receive a signal and trigger a response.

Every living thing is powered by nanomachines. They’re incredibly small, incredibly sophisticated, and use an incredibly versatile energy source.

Be careful what you wish for ….

  97. @ecupcakes2735

    January 29, 2023 at 5:58 pm

    – with all due respect, these jobs are called dull, dirty and dangerous jobs because society systemically, undervalues those jobs, even though they are extremely important to a functional society. it’s time the robotics and AI field starts asking whether we want to just replace the dangerous jobs only….or if there is another value at play aka Greed in automation.

Some people genuinely do find joy , livelihood & meaning gin the “dirty and dull” . It’s not something robots should be replacing if humans do find value those jobs, and it’s time we give them the respect they deserve, by not making up reasons to replace jobs for automation, for the sake of convenience. i think the robotics and AI field could benefit to ask more ethical questions before they decide what is dull and dirty, and start asking if greed in automation is a factor at play.

    • @agustinbarquero8898

      February 1, 2023 at 6:17 am

I disagree. Just because some people enjoy dull and dirty jobs, we shouldn’t make it a human job. Some people love dangerous jobs too. What now? Let’s put everyone in danger?

  98. @ceovideos8905

    January 30, 2023 at 3:10 pm

thats the point of making robots to do your jobs for you. the question should be do you think robots are capable of doing all the jobs humans do? the answer is yes. so humans left without purpose will become extinct. at least thats the plan. and climate change is how they justify doing it. less of you the less robots the lesser robots the lesser of you. until nothing is left. because people never know when to stop until its already to late. after all humans cant even perform the simplist of tasks for themselves anymore. consequences dont care about your intensions
