“We start this new decade knowing that it is the most consequential period in history,” says Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge. Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s “Moonshot,” he calls on everyone to rise to our greatest challenge ever: the “Earthshot.” A set of ambitious objectives for the planet, the Earthshot goals seek to protect and restore nature, clean the air, revive oceans, build a waste-free world and fix the climate — all in the next decade. To do it, we’ll need people in all corners of the globe working together with urgency, creativity and the belief that it is possible to repair the Earth.

This talk was part of the Countdown Global Launch on 10.10.2020. (Watch the full event here: .) Countdown is TED’s global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. Get involved at

His family can start by making their house smaller ? Not having a battalion of soldiers protect them day,and night paid for by the tax payers ?

They kinda do need the protection and I’m sure the soldiers love their job and paycheck.

The fundamental problem is that massive sociological change usually takes about 50 years. There are multiple reasons for that, but in this case, there’s a big one and it’s called “The Sam Vimes Theory of Boots”. If everyone bought electric cars, we’d cut greenhouse gases enormously. But many people can’t afford to buy new cars. They get their cars second hand, sometimes fourth-hand. Thus they are stuck driving the most polluting vehicles around. These are not an insignificant number. The same applies to upgrades to houses to make them more energy efficient. Those who can afford it, have mostly already done it, but too many can’t afford it. So things like government rebates simply aren’t going to cut it. If we want to do this, governments around the world are going to need to throw vast sums of money at people to allow them to participate when they can not otherwise afford to participate. That is the biggest challenge here.

Where is my pillow? 1st he asked African people to stop having babies while he continued to make babies, than he looked down on his sister in law because of her social status. That was enough for me to say next. Changes start at home. Put your money where your mouth is will and you might not come across as a hypocrite.

I realize this message isn’t going to be well received, but climate change has been happening for billions of years. Mankind is just the spot on the head of a pin compared to the evolution of the earth. The earth has a built in mechanism to deal with things like heat and cold. Mankind hasn’t or couldn’t have much of an affect. When you take into account the physical forces like the oceans and tectonic activity, things like the heat or gas engine emissions from cars have almost no affect whatsoever. If you think taxing people is the answer, it wont be. Nothing we can do will change it. The people who lecture us about rising sea levels are getting rich off their environmental politics. We have been sold a bag of horse manure and told its gold. It isn’t.

      October 11, 2020 at 12:41 am

David Franklin Whether that’s true or not a lot of the solutions to climate change are useful in multiple ways. Clean, sustainable energy for example. Better air quality and we won’t run out of resources in the long run.

    • ailingfanatic

      October 11, 2020 at 12:42 am

Though i do agree yes of course we can’t destroy the planet. “The planet will be fine, it’s the people that are fucked.”

    • David Franklin

      October 11, 2020 at 12:50 am

@ailingfanatic My point is, you can’t solve climate change. It is impossible. Only man has the arrogance to think he can change a system that has been in place for billions of years and will be for billions more. And all the clean sustainable energy require more coal and gas plants to provide electricity for cars. Look at California. They are having blackouts because they can’t provide the energy to provide the necessary electricity for the millions that live in the state. Multiple it by a factor of 100 and you will have the whole country running out of electricity. It will take many decades if not hundreds of years to stop using fossil fuel for energy. I was told when I was in high school in the 70s we would run out of oil. Fast forward 50 years and we have more oil than ever before. Until oil and gas become scarce, it will be with it as an energy source. And it won’t affect the climate.

    • ailingfanatic

      October 11, 2020 at 1:10 am

David Franklin And yet Ive read comments under this video talking about places having electricity surplus that need to sell off their power to neighbouring states. Maybe we can’t fix it quickly, but like you said the oil and gas will eventually run out. Why wait for that to happen instead of finding a solution now?

For those saying over population is the issue. I’d like to point out the hustle in educational training for becoming a scientist, engineer, doctor, lawyer, ect… That takes years of drive to push into joining together for creating a better future. Over population isn’t the issue. Cutting cost of educational prep is what’s needed.

Have a low-carb diet, High vegetable diet, and moderate protein and healthy fat diet. This way we can beat the Coronavirus 19. This will give you a stronger immune system and more intelligence. It helps a great deal. Love and bless you all. I hope Prince William sees this. If you add up all the good results. It’d be dramatic.

The people of the world are not aware of the damage we are doing to our planet, we realize that not even the pandemic does not affect many inprudent people, the only way is to enforce the law, all people will be sanctioned for not complying with hygiene to preserve the ecology, people who are throwing garbage (plastic bottles bags etc.) fine with going to serve community work to clean the beach, parks, recreation centers, the manufacture of all products derived from plastic have to be fully determined, if they continue to put on the market We consume the products, let’s make a difference, remove the plastic from the market and the problem ends,

Its a crime, that so much is being used and misused, to manipulate people into being completely cornered. To go back to pre-industrialation would take extreme worldwide devastation and compromise. The oligarchs wont let go of their death grip on money and power. Smooth words are being said in assumptive tones, to appeal to our humanity. But what is good for our world is NOT what they have in mind. They are hypocrites!! Their hypocrisy bleeds down into the least of us all in a dog eat dog world. You are right! There is no honest effective change, unless they are no longer in control. Society is far too indoctrinated to allow that. Their plan will only bring harm and undue suffering on the masses. And they know that well.

The latest “war on whatever”. Only now they’ve perfected it into climate change and viruses that can’t be seen or disproven except by silencing any opposition. If you were really concerned about science and the truth, you would have no need for censorship of any opposition. The truth would always prevail. It’s only when you have the hidden agenda of instituting global government that you need to censor any opposition. It’s so easy to provide “leadership” for such global issues, when what you’re really asking is for governments around the world to send billions of dollars to support your agenda. Your agenda is not a secret. It’s clearly published in the U.N. Agenda 21 /30 including the reduction of the global population by a third or more. And of course, you would be one of those deciding who lives and who dies. It all sounds great if you expect to be one of those unelected leaders of the global government and extended financial Ponzi scheme you currently control. I don’t expect you’d be quite so excited about that plan if you expected to draw the short straw in all your grand plans for saving the world.

“A landmark global study into the production of greenhouse gas emissions from over 38,000 farms has pointed to one simple way we can reduce our global warming woes — by avoiding meat and dairy products. The paper published in Science today shows that without these industries, global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75 per cent. That’s an area the size of Australia, the US, China and the EU combined. And what’s more, the study shows we don’t even really need meat anyway.

The researchers claim meat and dairy provide just 18 per cent of our required calories and 37 per cent of our protein. Despite the pitiful nutritional figures, the livestock industry accounts for a massive 83 per cent of farmland in the world and produces 60 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions in farming. The study shows that getting our protein from plants such as peas is far better for the environment than farming livestock. Even the lowest impact beef-producing farm would be responsible for six times more greenhouse gases and 36 times more land than a pea farm producing the same amount of protein.

A vegan diet is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification (of ocean water), eutrophication (the build up of nutrients in water bodies which destroys wildlife), land use and water use,” Oxford University researcher Joseph Poore told The Guardian today.

Over all, the researchers estimated a vegan world would produce 49 per cent less greenhouse gas emissions from food, 50 per cent less acidification, 49 per cent less eutrophication, and reduce water use by 19 per cent. “It (going vegan) is far bigger than cutting down on your flights or buying an electric car,” Mr Poore added. “Agriculture is a sector that spans all the multitude of environmental problems. Really it is animal products that are responsible for so much of this.”

    • Lydia Malone

      October 12, 2020 at 6:41 pm

@Raddie Mo that’s the whole point. The Royal offspring have been involved with politics for years. They just cast it in terms of issues they are concerned about. Charles posed for a photo op with Greta at Davos. You can’t get more political than that. He’s been doing a lot of passive aggressive politics for years. William gave a ridiculous speech at the bafta awards that was nothing but political correctness on steroids. Evidently people should be rewarded based on the color of their skin. so if they’re going to be involved like that why not be involved for the victims of the grooming gangs in Rotherham? How about Justice for them? how about the poor that are just getting poorer under the ridiculous lockdown?

    • Raddie Mo

      October 12, 2020 at 6:47 pm

@Lydia Malone I understand where your coming, they could do more but I think William and Kate are more known for playing it safe.. Charles gets lots of slack for as you say “passive aggressive politics”.. I remember the Greta meeting he had, and how much everyone held their noses at him. The monarchy is a sham but I do understand a need for people who give inspiration unlike politicians who are crooked on both sides like here in America 😷

The message is brilliant, and spoken with grace by an articulate human. Why so keen on shooting the messenger?

We cannot rely on big corporations to make great change immediately. Until then, we need to start making as many changes as possible in our own lives. Consider your purchases. Talk to others about how they produce less waste. Vote! The sustainability movement needs all the people we can get!

I’m a republican, not a monarchist. Yes, the big corporations, the rich and powerful cause most of the climate change. But just because the man and his family are privileged hypocrites doesn’t take away from the validity of what he says. Don’t point a finger and do nothing. Ask your MP to support the Climate & Ecological Emergency Bill: which will begin the system change we need. Individual lifestyle changes are important, but not sufficient. What we need is system change, to make the good choices the easy choices for more of us. The Climate Change Act 2008 succeeded in becoming law, and started life in the same way as the CEE Bill. When the rich and the poor are stuck in the same leaky lifeboat, arguing about who should start bailing will get us all drowned. Together, we can do this!

In a part of the United States with more than 17,000 years of human history, cultural preservation advocate Tracie Revis is working to turn the Ocmulgee Mounds into Georgia’s first national park and preserve. This park would be co-managed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, bringing the tribal voice back to an area they were forcibly removed from 200 years ago. Revis explores the complex feelings of caring for this land and shows how it’s fostering healing in return.
