Wait, what?! Nothing about the screen, performance, or call quality?!

    • Sharky165

      August 3, 2020 at 10:55 pm

IKR ?! It can indeed be annoying when smartphone reviewers these days almost solely focus on cameras (no pun intended 🤣).
To try to answer your specific questions, display and call quality should be roughly identical to the Pxl 3a/3aXL, and performance should be better, since SoC, RAM quantity, and storage speed (UFS vs Emmc) have all been upgraded.

You’re absolutely right about the Pixel 2! I still use mine and always get compliments about the photo quality.

Finally, the Pixel 4a! This must be so exciting for the people waiting to buy this plastic phone… all 100 of them. 😂🤦‍♂️

The only good thing about this phone is probably the camera. Plastic phone, very inferior chip set. Not much to see here.

I would like to know the Radiation / SAR value of Pixel 4a… This I believe, is one of the most important things to be considered these days.

      August 3, 2020 at 8:28 pm

Pretty low I think. Xiaomi and Oppo has the highest ones.

    Please do a Pixel 4a vs S10e comparison 😊

    • babbin tandukar

      August 3, 2020 at 7:17 pm

      S10 e is way better

    • Horn

      August 3, 2020 at 11:09 pm

@babbin tandukar only in performance / IP rating, things that are pretty much exclusive to high end phones

    • Abdilah Ramadhan

      August 3, 2020 at 11:40 pm

@Horn Much better video recording performance from the back and front cameras? But then again, its silly to compare a midrange phone to a flagship.

Been looking to upgrade from my pixel for a while and maybe this will just be the one since i live in a house of iphones and ipads lol no frills and color options i dont care about but a great camera and battery time

Bro this phone comes out in October, so I’ll have to go to school for a whole month without a phone, then there’s me having to buy my gf her birthday present, but at least it’s cheap😁.

    August 3, 2020 at 7:57 pm

@ CNET: would you recommend it over other mid range phones?

Ut seems that the 4a is a phone that has a good camera…and that’s it?!!! A $349.00 camera?!!!

    • Juan Diego

      August 3, 2020 at 8:27 pm

      Hi.
They skipped this: 3 years of updates (other midranges just 1).
Titan M chip. It’s a special chip to provide top-end security to your phone.
More software features. Google Assistant’s exclusive features, powerful AI and so on.

This is why it’s being compared to the iPhone SE. Mid-range processor and all of that but an excellent phone nonetheless.

    • Dracule Mihawk

      August 3, 2020 at 10:02 pm

@Juan Diego Thanks…but is ut better than Samsung A50/51 series…overall?!

Marketing and hype 101: use buzz words and clickbait captions like “impressive, jaw-dropping” and more to seduce consumers or readers.
Good luck trying to find accessories for your Google devices which typically go on clearance a few months after launch.

Rummaging through a bunch of 4a reviews (it’s having its big debut today).. all seem positive, but are these all just preview reviews? Will the real reviews be out after a few months and many people have already bought one. Should there be a waiting period before I run out and get one?

    • Tyler Hoerschgen

      August 3, 2020 at 11:51 pm

Reviewers have used them for a week or so depending on the reviewer. It won’t hurt to wait since it’s all pre-orders anyway

  21. Rob Oo

    August 3, 2020 at 11:40 pm

I hate it how so many reviewers say something like “for the price, it is the best camera.” I want to know if it is a good camera, not at what price point, but if it is a good camera at all.

Google does great with budget phones. I look at the gimicky features on the Pixel 4 like the half-baked radar sensor, not always 90HZ screen, telephoto secondary instead of ultrawide, and HUGE forehead/chin and think there is no reason to ‘upgrade’. Plus this has much better battery life for half the price. It’s no contest, save your money.

  29. Øystein

    August 4, 2020 at 11:29 am

Pixels are so boooring 🙁 I wish they justy made a phone people actually want instead just a phone just a few people want. Mostly fans.
If it had any less than 128GB base storage it would be sad. The 64GB option should be dead atleast 3 years ago. Atleast for phones that don’t even have a memory card option!

Looks cheap and gimmicky. The iPhone SE’s processor will allow updates for years to come.

    • Levick

      August 4, 2020 at 7:55 pm

Looks elegant and simple. This Pixel will also receive updates for at least 3 years (and you can still use it for however long it lasts because Android versions really don’t matter)

I’m be honest I use Samsung and know people with iphones and oneplus none of those cameras can touch the pixels level of software witch craft the pixel 4a has old hardware in the lenses and takes better photos than the s20 ultra oneplus 8 pro and in most cases the iPhone 11 pro

  38. dariush sarkhanzade

The title is tricky you claim its beats the iphone without comparison between these two phone i think the result will be smt else

That camera is ordinary. What makes it special is the excellent camera software.

    Like it’s so freaking good.

  40. Mmhajan PATTON

    August 4, 2020 at 3:12 pm

Best looking Pixel, period. Simple yet so elegant. Screen to body ratio is impressive not only for Pixel but for a 2020 phone in general. If only flagship Pixel would be this impressive.

  43. Harsha Suresh

    August 4, 2020 at 6:12 pm

Many will complain that this phone isn’t worth it because it has no flagship qualities. To me, that doesn’t really matter. I mainly use a phone for video watching, gaming sometimes, using social media, etc. And for those, the Pixel 4a is waaaaay more than enough. Although i do like more premium phones, what the average person does with their phone is easily achievable with this Pixel 4a.

Nah, SE has better processor and iOS

    • Levick

      August 4, 2020 at 7:50 pm

$50 more expensive, outdated design and very poor battery life

    • InnerFire6213

      August 4, 2020 at 11:24 pm

And basically nothing to make use of all that horsepower. The high end processor on the SE only makes the battery life worse. Poor planning for apple. And look at the original SE. Had the highest end processor for its time but now it’s a laggy mess

  46. Alex Mercer

    August 4, 2020 at 7:04 pm

It’s funny how you can take great photos, yet need a secondary device to appreciate it.
    HD+ screen for $350???
    are u kidding?
