He’s saying it with a mix of the French pronunciation with an American accent. (He was born in France, but mostly lives in the USA.)

Wow you guys cut the video just as he was about to follow up on punching a shark “angering the animal”. That sounded like he was about to tell you what you should ACTUALLY do during a shark attack

This seems like it’s trying to cram in as many clips as possible and is really poorly edited to the point where all of his sentences ending each clip are left hanging

I don’t get why would you choose quantity over quality. Instead of having the expert reacting to various movies, have them talking more about each one of them, even if that means having them react to a minor number of scenes.

You are straight cutting off his sentences, right when is about to get interesting.

Fabien Cousteau is an awesome guy great to see him in this type of video however the edit spent way too little time on way too many movies. I’d suggest halving the number of movies he talks about so that we can get a bit more in depth since he was clearly talking about them for longer. Or make this a 45 minute video full more commentary on every movie which would be the best 😁

The Titanic representation isnt “a fairly accurate visual”, it’s literally real footage of the Titanic wreckage. James Cameron is obsessed with sea exploration, he spent months on months with many dives to the wreckage recording video for the film.

Liked his critiques **sooooo much**–complimentary when it was merited, humorous & sarcastic when some scenes were just, well–ridiculous (“Oh boy”, “Siiigh–“what to say about this clip??”, “They look like a bunch of yahoo divers”, “secondly–sharks don’t yawn like this underwater”)
Glad that he didn’t make a big to-do about being the grandson of Jacques Cousteau..

    • Naja H

      March 9, 2022 at 9:10 pm

Think of it this way. You have a billion sharks, but only about 10 deaths a year. So for every 100 million sharks only one will kill a human. That’s pretty safe, don’t you think?

  76. drownoble

    March 9, 2022 at 11:12 am

The boat scene in Pirates is actually NOT possible. Mythbusters did a test on it and found the buoyancy of the boat would pull it to the surface. Two men would not have the strength to actually hold the boat, with an air pocket, underwater. If there was a hole in the boat (no air), then they could do it.

Grandchild of OG subrarine explorer Jaques Cousteau, no better presenter for this kind of break down. But how could you get the name wrong when he says it right in the first line.

  88. Wibblewozzer

    March 10, 2022 at 11:42 pm

Be great if there was a Wired side channel or just a secondary video posted that had longer versions of his answers and B-roll. In most of these videos it’s apparent they likely have more to say but editing keeps it succint but in this case the cuts seem far more clear that he was saying more and it made many of his replies too short without really providing expert commentary.

In the end it turns most of these into “that’s not realistic. That one is,” and so forth. Compare that to some of the older Critique videos where they elaborate and can get fairly deep into the processes or whatever.

Still love to watch this video series but figured I’d give my own critique.

6:50 I apreciate the take at the shark size being to big, but isn´t this just the catch with the Megalodon, which the movie is about? Yes even for a megalodon it´s too big, I know, but he referred to “in existence today”. (But I really do NOT want to defend that movie, because they slaughtered everything for cinematics, pun intended)

0:57 – If the boat is heavy enough to hold the air and stay underwater, it is not a boat to begin with. The entire concept of boats is to have enough buoyancy to carry those guys without going under.
