Actually, they did some tests of water in a vaccum before. The water will boil out rapidly, which will cause cooling. So, about 20% of the water boils off in about 30 seconds, the rest of the water has lost enough energy to freeze at that point. Hands have skin to keep it in and slow it… your head has giant wet holes. So, it might actually happen quickly.

on the multiaxis trainer, would it be completely different in space since there’s no significant source of gravity that’ll keep shifting the fluid in your eardrums towards the ground while you spin around 360? would the only influence then be the outward centrifugal force? would it be more or less disorienting without the influence of gravity? i dry-heaved for about 10 minutes after doing that simulator at Vancouver’s Expo ’86 while i have absolutely no problems with a centripetal ride like Gravitron or freefalling during skydrives, and i don’t get as easily disoriented when being spun on a chair or with my forehead to a baseball bat… my assumptions would be that it’s actually less disorienting spinning randomly in space because there’s no gravity, so there’s no additional chaotic force pulling you everywhich way.

One thing I wish she would have said in reference to the hull breach thing, is that while it totally is true that things will get sucked towards the hole, and sure, if it were big enough it could suck a person out of the ship or the station, but it would be NOTHING like what happens in Aliens III. The difference between normal atmospheric pressure and the vacuum of space is only 14.7 PSI (1 atmosphere of pressure). The tires on your car are probably pressurized at more than double that. Great movie and great scene, but not anywhere near accurate.

I looked up her history and she flew on both STS-128 and STS-129 which were only a few months apart. Considering how long astronauts wait for a space mission i assume she didnt get 2 in a row, does this mean she flew up on one and down on another?

The thing she said at 16:25 is actually really interesting, because I’ve noticed that even with cars(to a WAYYYY lesser extent) when someone is driving you feel the stops/movements of the car more than if you’re the one driving it.

ah Gravity. where to even begin with all the inaccuracies in that movie. best fan theory i ever heard was that all of the events portrayed after the first few minutes is fantasy playing out in the main character’s head as she suffocates.
