I’m a big fan of mushrooms. The edible ones are delicious. I’m less of a fan of fungi that cause infections in humans, such as yeast or ringworm. That kind of fungus can F right off.
I do think a follow up video about molds and yeast could be interesting though.

I don’t think its surprising that psilocybin is so similar to serotonin and binds to all the serotonin receptors in the brain. After all outside of the brain serotonin is massively involved in digestion. There is more serotonin in your gut than your brain. So if psilocybin was some sort of protection targeting serotonin receptors in the digestive tract of animals makes perfect sense. Its just pure coincidence that serotonin is also used in the brain or mamals, allowing psilocybin to have unintended affects.

Don’t have to listen to this to know the answer is YES. But Like, it would have to be insanely more complex than what there is now. If it ever happens, it was likely manufactured by humans. It just needs so much evolution in a specific direction it’s impossible unless it somehow evolves with humans.

Its already happening long time now.. If my belly it’s full I can’t get sick.. But always before I got sick my appetite is gone.. Maybe a virus is stopping me eating so he can invate a weak immune more easy.. Food for thought

The lethal dose of the most deadly mushroom in the world is .1 mg per KG of bodyweight. So, if you’re an average 72kg male, just eat half of the lethal dose (3.6mg) and see if you get sick. If you don’t, double it and subtract 1mg. If you still don’t get sick, your safe to add the original dose again (1.5x lethal dose if it’s the most deadly mushroom in the world… it clearly isn’t or you would have been sick by now).

the only thing he got wrong is that no animal can do photosynthesis. That depends entirely on how nitpicky you’re willing to be. A species of sea slug is able to eat specific plants and then utilize their photosynthesis for themselves and I think that’s pretty neat 🙂

What I wonder about mycoremediation is, now that people’s bodies are saturated with microplastics, would releasing plastic-destroying spores en masse pose a health risk? Button and portabello mushrooms are the same species (Agaricus bisporus). Crimini mushrooms are also Agaricus bisporus. Shitake mushrooms are a different species (Lentinula edodes).
